I agree it was a stupid thing to do by the coverage guy, however if anything I figured once possession was established in his hands, the officials would call it down right there. The same way when a coverage guy tries to kick the ball backwards intentionally or not, the officials will blow the ball dead at the spot of the possession. I could be wrong.
