Once again all we'll hear are thoughts and prayers and condolences and absolutely nothing done at the legislative level because the NRA and 2nd amendment nutjob have too much power.

Anyone have an idea for gun legislation that would both stop these mass murders and survive a court challenge?

Better background checks maybe, since this one didn't catch his incarceration or domestic violence conviction.

Authorities revealed that a heroic and unidentified citizen, a neighbor of the church, “grabbed his rifle and confronted the suspect,” who was armed with a “Ruger AR assault type rifle.” (although Daily Beast later reported the citizen had a shotgun.) The local citizen and another man, Johnnie Langendorff, who happened to be driving past the church, pursued the suspect, who ran off the road and crashed and was found deceased in his vehicle. “We don’t know if it was a self inflicted gunshot wound or if he was shot by our local resident who engaged him with gunfire,” authorities said. It was the largest mass shooting in Texas history.

The horrific mass shooting wounded almost everyone inside the small country church building, which held only about 50 people in the town of only a few hundred people. The victims ranged in age from 5 to 72, authorities said. “This will be a long suffering mourning for those in pain,” said Governor Greg Abbott, confirming that 26 people had died. Authorities would not confirm the suspect’s name, and they said they were investigating, but could not confirm, reports of possible militia ties. However, Heavy has learned that the shooter’s wife says on Facebook that she is from Sutherland Springs, and her mother was pictured in previous photos at the First Baptist Church, showing the shooter has personal ties to the church. Online records show the wife’s name is Danielle Shields Kelley, which CBS has also confirmed.

CNN reported that “Devin Kelley purchased the Ruger-AR556 rifle in April 2016 from an Academy Sports & Outdoors in San Antonio…Official says Kelley checked box to indicate he didn’t have any disqualifying criminal history on background paperwork.”

Thats asking for a lot of bloodshed.

Let the boys in blue live up to the hero moniker people love to throw around so much. I could back the blue on that.

It's because of the fallacy that the former actually does something while the latter is impossible. If as many people who called for prayer, i.e. doing nothing, actually gave a damn and voted like they cared about this issue, all the NRA's money would be useless.

The 2nd amendment is really the only thing in the constitution that refers specifically to a technology and why it is just woefully outdated. How could they ever have envisioned what technology would allow today and that it would give every American an easy way to mass murder a hundred free and innocent people in a matter of minutes.

Everything else in in our history is updated with new safety regulations and cutbacks and laws as technology advances...but not gun control.

Its really quite baffling.

Can we compromise and let it only allow muzzleloaders for private citizens which is as close as we can get to what the founding fathers envisioned they would be allowing?

Then we can get all the people with gun erections to join the military or law enforcement to get their fix for autos and semi-autos and feeling like real badasses with their guns on their hips.

We can solve problems here people.

I hear they don't let you carry guns on planes, they can do that for some reason.

wanna guess

I cannot believe you would want to create a soft target by making gun free zones! Don’t you care about people? We all know that gun bans don’t work! The only thing to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Besides, we all know that this isn’t a gun issue, but a mental health issue. But then wasn’t it the GOP and the NRA that just struck down any form of discrimination against mentally ill gun owners?

What is a greater loss of freedom? Not being able to buy as many mass murdering weapons as you want or the apparent alternative which is a metal detector at every retail, restaurant, worship, school, bank etc

I think the biggest loss of freedom is the loss of life. The dead literallly can’t do anything or choose anything.

At work this morning not even a mention of it around the coffee pot. This is how it is now. This is normal.

Contemplating writing my church council about stationing someone at the entrance to just watch. Doesn’t even have to be armed security-just someone watching our backs while everyone is facing forward.

As our brave national leaders are saying with their inaction: nothing can be done about this. Cowards.
