as destino pointed out, what drives narratives at the moment is the perceived 'weak' party getting screwed by the perceived 'strong' party. this is why a spotlight will be put on stories like interactions with police and your above example while the fact is these kinds of events are incredibly rare particularly when compared to situations where the roles are reversed.

at the moment, for the left, its all about power dynamics and perception. but this isn't a bad thing. we should be looking out for those who have less power than others. now, at times, it is a virtue becoming a vice. the right on the other hand contends that its a problem when you focus on the incredibly small problem at the expense of the much larger one. on the right people are much more likely to look at a problem independent of power dynamics and make a judgement about which we should focus on, which has its shortcomings because it may not take into account other causal factors.

When the goal is to scare people and incite hate of course they’re going to present a big picture and ignore causal factors. Goebells 101.

Yeah, thanks for doing nothing assholes. Maybe if you just thought a little harder and prayed a little longer then she wouldn’t have committed suicide.

Of course your deity probably views people who kill themselves as weak so you don’t care.

The most recent “This American Life” - Beware the Jabberwookie or something. Touches on the constant barrage of truthers that the victims of mass murder face.  It’s terrible the things that get said to these people.  Mostly inspired by people like Alex Jones, Sean Hannity and the like.

Only in America, and more specifically because of the GOP, we would do pretty much nothing in response to an event that would have called for immediate action  everywhere else in the developed world.

The blood of countless children is on the hands of those who block both sensible gun laws, while simultaneously inhibiting and even defunding healthcare access.
