Not being an expert in Venezuelan government, IĀ couldn't debate the subject. The ruling party is and has been the United Socialist Party and it's always spoken of as a socialist country. Can't say I know any more than that.

Ā

I mean, I get that.

Ā

I tried looking it up and it does seem to have some trademarks of socialism such as price caps and exchange rate locks. Ā But it seems that the working class is completely ****ed, something that socialism aims to fix. Ā Plus the vast amount of money and power all being held in one person. Ā Seems like a USSR type socialism where it claims to be socialism but merely fleeces its countrymen of their hard work and the land of its resources, in exchange for money and power for the few.

Ā

I could be completely wrong, and perhaps someone wiser on the subject of socio-economic political situation in Venezuela that I could better spell it out. Ā Iā€™d appreciate it.

Ā

Ā

Rather than taking a sound byte from Trump about how bad socialism is and equating any social programs that Democrats want to peruse as ā€œDemocrats want America to become Venezuelaā€. Ā Cause letā€™s not be dumb, that is exactly what Trump meant when he talked about Venezuela going full retard on socialism.

Totally agree and I have no disillusions about that. I suspect that Venezuela's real problem is that their leader is an authoritarian.

The confusion IMOĀ isn't caused by Venezuela not beingĀ really socialist, theirĀ leaders are openly Marxist,Ā the problem is that Bernie Sanders and Europe are not really socialist. Ā None of them believe in economic socialism. They aren't for seizing the means of production of central planning. Ā All of them believe in privately owned and operated business. Ā What they call socialism is a question of tax rates and social spending, over a capitalist system.Ā

I'm still not sure if Nikki was talking about Trump or Un in this quote.

Nikki Haley this morning on the Today show:

Quote

Ā

"The thing is, you've got a very paranoid leader, who is determined to show his strength, who is determined to threaten his neighbors and to threaten the United States. And I think the President has to speak up, he has to speak up on behalf of the American people."

Have yall seen that North Korea CNN special? These people are literally raised to believe Americans are the ultimate evil. Like children are told that Americans want to kill them literally and they are taught to fight back and be ready for war.Ā

Ā

And our President said he will wipe them off the face of the earth. Thats a strange path toĀ diplomacyĀ

Some facts can't be ignored, and can't be wished away, and have little to nothing to do with our own politics and desires.

Like, North Korea has nukes it can deliver long distances.

They ARE an unstable agitator who's entire existence is designed around being under constant attack and defending themselves eternally from enemies over the horizon.

Thy HAVE fired two missiles directly OVER Japan. That in itself is an act of war. Like it or not, and regardless of the results.

If it were US, we'd never accept it, and would immediately and justifiably strike back. He fires a missile that cruises over a part of Alaska and what should we do? st back and ask him not to do it again? Not realistic.

Their technology has advanced extremely quickly, especially in the last year. A few months ago they fired an ICBM that our intel said was at least ten years beyond what we believed was their current progress.

Two days later our intel is again shocked by their apparent amazing speed at miniaturizing their warheads.

Since then, two missiles have flown over Japan.

Ā

I am no Trump fan, and i think most of his foreign policy has been an absolute disaster.

But sometimes you have to react to situations that arise, and frankly, their is no other regime on Earth who is more dangerous than North Korea. They clearly have decided that projecting power beyond their borders aggressively is what they are going to do, and dare us or anyone else to stop them.

Ā

If they do attack the US or it's territories.. if they launch a nuclear weapon against anyone.. Ā then they have indeed walked onto the path of annihilation themselves. If the subjects in that country are innocent,, oh well. Not much can be done about that.

In this situation, the fault is with Un, and the responsibility for what happens is on him.

Hard to worry about what North Korean people may think of Trumps speech being that they can't watch it, have no access to the internet, and no matter what Trump said they'd still be told Americans plan to kill them. Ā

How has standard diplomacy worked out so far with NK?

Ā

Oh I totally think we should wipe them off the face of the Earth if they dont chill out. But I think its pretty stupid to say that you really really want diplomacy and then say to someone like Kim "Hey im going to kill you if you make me, Rocket man"Ā

Ā

There is no way that will lead to diplomacy so why even waste time?Ā Blow them up already if thats what the plan is.Ā

Some thoughts:

Ā

- I don't think it's appropriate to kill millions of people and get possiblyĀ tens of thousands if notĀ millions of our allies killed as a response to so farĀ empty threats from North Korea and it's unclear they ever intend to use missles ONĀ another county. Ā It's a bit crazy that people are suggesting putting so many other people's lives as forfeit for something that is likely mainly aĀ way for NKĀ to get concessions and remain relevant.

Ā

-It's unlikely anyoneĀ will support us wiping out North Korea and potentially dooming SouthĀ KoreaĀ and it's unclear we would ever actually do this anyway.

Ā

- OurĀ admin's constant emptyĀ threats so far have only resulted in increasedĀ escalation and returned threats from North Korea. Ā NK has escalated like crazy since Trump came into office, way more than in previous years. Ā WhetherĀ in response to Trump or the admin's actions or statements or due to something different behind the scenes there or something else they have seen in us it's hard to say.

Just to clarify, I dont want to hurt anyone if it can be avoided. But with NKĀ I have to assume that there is at least the possibility that Kim will not stop at threats. And if he doesĀ drop something 50 times more powerful than the H bomb on Japan then we need to be prepared to make that the last time he can do something like that.Ā

Ā

I would love for peace to be the solution to all things. But looking at our respective leaders I have to think that it may not happen that way.Ā

Ā

I think I came off a bit too brazen about it in my previous post. Life is precious for sure. But I dont think the world needs the current NK holding it hostage with nukes.Ā

Kim's not dropping nukes on anyone. All they do is shoot off their mouths over there. Reality is the same it's always been. Any action would bring about an immediate end to his existence.

Ā

edit: And I agree that previous administrations have all screwed up by letting them get this far. It's inarguable. Current situation is that they have the capability to kill millions of people. Are we going to trigger that, and also kill millions of North Koreans who pose no realistic threat to usĀ because Trump farted out an idiotic threat during a photo op at his golf club and thinks it'llĀ look bad if Kim keeps talking smack and he doesn't kill everyone like he said he would?

And Saddam is not going to invade....unless they think they can get away with it.
