Larry
"Don't name military bases in honor of people who's sole claim to fame is leading troops into battle against the United States" is not "political correctness". Shoulda named it "Grant". Or "Sherman". Edited June 10, 2023 by Larry
Captain Wiggles
Fort Liberty is about as lame a name change as the Commanders. Still it's far better than Fort Bragg. Have they changed the name of Bragg Boulevard and the fairgrounds yet? Conservatives probably wanna go back to calling it Fort Bragg just to be able to refer to it by the rhyming homophobic nickname again. 🤷♂️ Edited June 10, 2023 by Captain Wiggles

And mostly what they're trying to do is to dog whistle to people who are scared that the liberals are coming to take away their "confederate flag".

Captain Wiggles
I've seen this a lot through my years. Yankees move down here and immediately wrap themselves in Confederate bull****. It's 100%. hate not heritage.
The Sisko
I’m fully supportive of being reminded that a boatload of Mississippians and other southerners were mowed down in the civil war. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. However, we don’t need the stars and bars for that. 2

Fergasun
Snowflakes... eff their feelings. He also appears stupid if burning a statue of someone who fought for the insurrectionists makes him feel unwelcome. The white greviance here... meanwhile I am sure you mingle with, by products from, work with people whose ancestors were killed for no reason other than the color of their skin (or their religion). Don't let this guy know what happpened to the "General Lee" from Dukes of Hazard. What the hell is "my kind" - racist trash that wants to own slaves? 1

China
The Confederate Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery will be dismantled this week A monument to Confederate soldiers is scheduled to be removed from Arlington National Cemetery by the end of the week. The removal comes in response to legislation passed by Congress, and amidst efforts in recent years to take down symbols honoring slaveholders and Confederate leaders. In 2021, Congress passed a law requiring the Department of Defense to look at removing "names, symbols, displays, monuments, or paraphernalia" commemorating the Confederacy. Arlington's Confederate Memorial offers a "mythologized vision of the Confederacy, including highly sanitized depictions of slavery," according to a report prepared by a commission set up in response to that legislation. The report notes that an inscription promotes the "Lost Cause" myth, "which romanticized the pre-Civil War South and denied the horrors of slavery." EmirOfShmo
Bills to remove tax break for United Daughters of Confederacy likely headed to Youngkin The United Daughters of the Confederacy could lose tax exemptions pending proposals that have been working their way through Virginia’s legislature. With the Senate passing House Bill 568 on Tuesday, its similar companion, Senate Bill 517, is pending review in the House. The bills involve sections of state code that concern real estate taxes where UDC is the only specific-interest group to be exempted from deed recordation taxes. These breaks typically apply to broader organizations like churches, government buildings, and nonprofit hospitals. UDC — headquartered in Richmond — is also exempt from real estate and property taxes. If the bills become law, the organization would lose these exemptions. https://richmond.com/news/state-regional/government-politics/united-daughters-of-confederacy-tax-exemption-virginia-legislation/article_8b17ee7c-d02c-11ee-9f17-dbea26db43d2.html

BringMetheHeadofBruceAllen
It baffles me why the GOP would want to revert military bases to the names of racist, slave-owning generals who rose up against their own country...and their own party. Oh wait...it's because that's what the Southerners in those states want, and the GOP wants votes. 🙄 It's sad that the notion of the "Lost Cause" of Southern culture continues to endure 150+ years after it should have been snuffed out.
