One of the things that cracks me up about our southern states is they have a big beach/ocean/tourist thing going on. They deny climate change and all that goes into it. But I’d you’ve ever spent any time researching buying beach front property, and actually do a good job researching, you’ll stumble across things like I did where a state like South Carolina, which is booming with beach front development, has an environmental department that has a whole website dedicated to explaining the massive erosion problem they are facing, with tons of warnings about buying property, things to look for, etc.

the website describes the effort as an attempt to inform and protect its citizens from being duped into bad property purchases by developers just trying to flip raw land into developed housing.

so. They know. And they do certain things. But they have this front they put up and it prevents them from really tackling things the right way.

My wife likes to watch those Caribbean real estate shows and fantasize about buying a beachfront home.

I'm like, lmao, no, nuh uh, never.

Ken Paxton wants to disqualify three senators from his impeachment trial. Here's why.

Lawyers for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton are seeking to disqualify three Democratic state senators from serving as jurors in Paxton's upcoming impeachment trial, arguing that statements the lawmakers have made show they've formed an opinion on his guilt.

Paxton's lawyers filed a motion Friday that asks Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick to excuse Sens. Nathan Johnson of Dallas, Roland Gutierrez of San Antonio and José Menéndez of San Antonio.

In a TV interview, Gutierrez has said the evidence against Paxton "could not be refuted" and that he's “seen an abundance of misdeeds," the lawyers said in their motion. In condemning Johnson, the lawyers cited a recent tweet in which the senator criticized the donation of $3 million by a pro-Paxton PAC to Patrick's campaign. Johnson called it "obscene."

In Paxton's impeachment trial, set to begin Sept. 5 in the Texas Senate, Patrick will serve in a judicial role as the presiding officer. Senators will vote on whether to remove Paxton from office based on allegations that he engaged in bribery and misuse of office to assist a political donor, Austin real estate developer Nate Paul. Paxton also stands accused of inappropriately firing aides in his office after they made allegations of criminal behavior to federal investigators.

"If each is not disqualified as a matter of law, the Attorney General should be afforded an opportunity to conduct a limited voir dire of each regarding their bias and prejudice, and accordingly their fitness to sit in judgment of the Attorney General at the upcoming trial," Paxton's lawyers argued in the motion.

Ken Paxton fundraising email, website link appear to violate gag order in upcoming impeachment trial

Suspended Attorney General Ken Paxton is fundraising off his upcoming impeachment trial and characterizing the rare political event in a way that appears to be a direct violation of the gag order established by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick last month.

In a fundraising email sent late Tuesday afternoon, Paxton is asking for contributions while framing next month’s trial as “illegal”.

“By preceding [sic] with this illegal impeachment scheme to overturn a decision from Texas voters just a few short months ago, the corrupt politicians in the Texas House [of Representatives] are demonstrating that blind loyalty to Speaker Dade Phelan is more important that upholding their oath of office,” the fundraising email states.

It was sent from Ken Paxton’s website – kenpaxton.com.

But Lt. Gov. Patrick has condemned Paxton’s own attorneys for using such language to describe the impeachment trial.

According to Patrick’s gag order established on July 17, anyone who is “party to the trial of impeachment… shall not furnish any statement or information… [that] will have a substantial likelihood of materially prejudicing the trial of impeachment.”

Suspended Texas AG Ken Paxton in Houston courtroom as criminal defendant

Suspended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton appeared in a Houston courtroom for a hearing Thursday morning as a criminal defendant, but his trial on securities fraud charges will have to wait until after his impeachment trial.

If convicted of defrauding investors in a Dallas-area tech startup by not disclosing he was being paid by the company to recruit them, Paxton could get up to 99 years in prison.

During the brief court hearing, his lawyers asked state District Judge Andrea Beall to delay any decision on setting a trial date until the attorney general's impeachment trial, set to begin Sept. 5, is finished. Dan Cogdell, one of Paxton’s attorneys, said he expects the impeachment trial to last a couple of weeks.

Both the prosecutors and defense agreed that an ongoing federal investigation will affect the state's case. Both sides also agreed to return to court on October 6 to try to set a trial date.

The Republican attorney general sat by himself on a bench as his lawyers and the prosecutors stood in front of Judge Beall. Paxton did not say anything during the hearing.

What the hell is wrong with these people.  How did they end up in this rabbit hole?  "DoJ is wrong because Trump didn't commit any crimes."  We are not watching the same thing.

And what the eff is  "The Benny Show"?  These people are morons.  I guess if your news ecosystem has no limits.... anyone can be on the Internet.

...

Was searching about this guy and then saw some newsworthy Joe Rogan BS about Kamala and Gavin N and Arizona fraud.

COVID really turned peoples minds to mush.  It's not like there are always two competing sides for an issue.  We really had (and still have to some extent) a deadly pandemic that killed a whole lot of vulnerable people.  The government and industry really did push out vaccines that, gee, may have some side effects but honestly turned out effective.  The response was also drastic and had side effects socially for folks.  Life isn't perfect.

But we are in some serious "beyond spin" BS.  Also... how can people in the admin talk about deep state?  You had the White House.

The problem goes back to Ford's pardon of Nixon. His underlings who were prosecuted and served time in prison were the scapegoats for letting Nixon walk. If he had gone to prison or at least impeached and removed from office, it would have eliminated some of this mindset that the president/ex-president can walk on anything including an insurrection to overthrow the Constitution. Instead it got worse with Reagan's Iran-Contra for a start, Bush 43 invading Iraq, and now Trump's insurrection. All this is the underhanded goal of the John Birch Society leading to Fascism, that the Army in 1948 issued a pamphlet about Fascism.

Quote

Stephen Miller: "This goes back to the Watergate era -- and now we obviously know, looking back on it now, of course, that that was a deep state coup against Richard Nixon"

What is he talking about? Nixon ended the Vietnam War before he resigned. The deal Nixon made was the same deal the Vietnamese had been offering since 1968. His resignation had no impact on his War policy.

'Jack Smith's words': Fox News hosts slam Pence for 'making money' from 'too honest' slogan

Fox News hosts Pete Hegseth and Rachel Campos-Duffy followed former President Donald Trump's lead and attacked former Vice President Mike Pence over special counsel Jack Smith's investigation into a plot to overthrow the 2020 election.

During a segment on Sunday's broadcast of Fox & Friends, Hegseth slammed Pence for using the slogan "too honest" — words that Trump allegedly used while pushing Pence to stop the counting of electoral votes.

"He's delusional, and now he wants to show he's a tough guy," Hegseth said, quoting Trump.

"He's making money off of it, by the way," Campos-Duffy noted. "Too honest is now his merchandise slogan."

"The too honest thing comes from the indictment from Jack Smith, where they claim Donald Trump said, Oh, Mike Pence, you're too honest when he wanted him and not certify on January 6th," Hegseth explained. "I just don't see how putting the words of Jack Smith on a T-shirt is going to help you inside the Republican primary."

Nope. Not without a red hat, pins, and clothing attire that has Trump’s face or the American flag displayed prominently.

The entire wearing the flag to show your patriotism is annoying as all hell.  It’s explicitly spelled out in the US flag code:

The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free”

”It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard.”

”No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume”

as to all of the “modified to suit your agenda” flags that are prevalent these days:

The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.“

I've been known to question folks in parking lots about their vehicles, just as a thought experiment.

"How many of those flags were you flying on September 10th?!?"

Their facial response is enough.  (complete bewilderment, can't register anything, like I have 18 heads, etc.)
