Recall long ago on ES. Some dude drove a station wagon through the front doors of the treasury building, next door to the White House, and claimed to have a bomb. I'll attempt to re-post what I said back then. 
 

If I'm one of the cops on the scene, I'm a lot more worried about the crowd that's forming around this event. They're a bigger threat. 
 

I'm worried about some reporter trying to infiltrate so he can get a better video. Or somebody in the crowd deciding that this is boring, and throwing a rock, or setting off fireworks. 

 

Bomb guy (who may not even have one) is neutralized. Everybody in the area has need evacuated. His "hostages" right now consist of himself, and some old government buildings. 
 

In short, his life right now consists of exactly two choices. 
 

1). Die

2). Go talk to the nice judge. Followed very shortly by the nice doctor. 
 

Take all the time you want to think about this, buddy. My shift ends at 3:30, and when that happens, either I go home or I start collecting overtime. 
 

Secure the perimeter. Watch the crowd. And let Al Gore talk to him till he falls asleep.

I for one am shocked that the guy that staged a bomb threat and parked his truck in front of the Library of Congress, when far more important targets are literally one block in every direction, wasn’t a serious person.

Library of Congress bomb suspect livestreamed on Facebook for hours before being blocked

 

The man suspected of making a bomb threat near the Library of Congress livestreamed his anti-government remarks for hours before Facebook took down his account on Thursday afternoon.

 

The man broadcasted to the social network as he sat in his car surrounded by federal agents in Washington, D.C. He said his car would "blow up" if security shot through his window.

Several hours after his threats began, Facebook spokesperson Andy Stone said the company removed the suspect's profile from Facebook and Instagram. "We are in contact with law enforcement," Stone said. "Our teams are working to identify, remove, and block any other instances of the suspect’s videos which do not condemn, neutrally discuss the incident or provide neutral news coverage of the issue." At least one of the videos was taken down a little before 1 p.m., more than five hours after the suspect started livestreaming messages at 7:30 a.m during his drive to Washington, D.C.

Militia Leader Gets 53-Year Sentence In Minnesota Mosque Bombing

 

The leader of an Illinois anti-government militia group who authorities say masterminded the 2017 bombing of a Minnesota mosque was sentenced Monday to 53 years in prison for an attack that terrified the mosque's community.

 

Emily Claire Hari, who was charged, tried and convicted under the name Michael Hari and recently said she is transgender, faced a mandatory minimum of 30 years for the attack on Dar al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington. Defense attorneys asked for the minimum, but prosecutors sought life, saying Hari hasn't taken responsibility for the attack.

No one was hurt in the bombing, but more than a dozen members of the mosque community gave victim impact statements Monday about the trauma it left behind. U.S. District Judge Donovan Frank said evidence clearly showed Hari's intent was to "scare, intimidate and terrorize individuals of Muslim faith."

Austin Man Arrested, Charged With Arson For Allegedly Throwing Molotov ****tail at Democratic Party HQ

 

Ryan Faircloth, 30, was arrested for allegedly using a Molotov ****tail to ignite the office of the Travis County Democratic Party headquarters in Austin, Texas, according to a report by the local CBS affiliate.

 

The arson attempt was captured by the TCDP’s security cameras early Wednesday morning, showing a man wearing an American flag bandanna over his face throwing a rock through the glass on the office’s front door, and then returning “with what appears to be an incendiary device and plac[ing] it inside the building and then the fire starts to ignite,” said Austin arson investigator Captain Brandon Jennings. He also allegedly left a note at the scene.

 

No one was at the office at the time, so fortunately there were no injuries. Damage to the building was minimized because the arsonist placed the incendiary device inside the office, instead of throwing it as Molotov ****tails are usually deployed, and patrons of the bar across the street noticed the flames and put them out with a fire extinguisher.

 

The Austin Fire Department told reporters that the arrest was made by their arson investigators working with the FBI.

I watched a show last night on Hulu called The Informant.  It was an ABC show with Stephanopolis.  It had a 20/20 vibe, but it was about three militia members in Kansas who were convicted of plotting to bomb an apartment complex and mosque. This was in 2016.  It layered in Trump’s campaign in the background and talked about how the Pulse nightclub shooting set things in motion.  It was quite disturbing.

DHS Issues National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) Bulletin

 

Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas issued a National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) Bulletin regarding the continued heightened threat environment across the United States. This is the fifth NTAS Bulletin issued by the Department of Homeland Security since January 2021 and it replaces the current Bulletin that was set to expire tomorrow. 

 

“DHS remains committed to proactively sharing timely information and intelligence about the evolving threat environment with the American public,” said Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas. “We also remain committed to working with our partners across every level of government and in the private sector to prevent all forms of terrorism and targeted violence, and to support law enforcement efforts to keep our communities safe. This NTAS Bulletin outlines the key factors that have increased the volatility, unpredictability, and complexity of the current threat environment, and highlights resources for individuals and communities to stay safe.”

 

The United States remains in a heightened threat environment fueled by several factors, including an online environment filled with false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories, and other forms of mis- dis- and mal-information (MDM) introduced and/or amplified by foreign and domestic threat actors. These threat actors seek to exacerbate societal friction to sow discord and undermine public trust in government institutions to encourage unrest, which could potentially inspire acts of violence. Mass casualty attacks and other acts of targeted violence conducted by lone offenders and small groups acting in furtherance of ideological beliefs and/or personal grievances pose an ongoing threat to the nation.

Three Men Plead Guilty to Conspiring to Provide Material Support to a Plot to Attack Power Grids in the United States

 

Three men pleaded guilty today to crimes related to a scheme to attack power grids in the United States in furtherance of white supremacist ideology.

 

According to court documents, Christopher Brenner Cook, 20, of Columbus, Ohio; Jonathan Allen Frost, 24, of West Lafayette, Indiana, and of Katy, Texas; and Jackson Matthew Sawall, 22, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, each pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists.  The charge and plea agreements indicate that the defendants knew and intended that the material support they conspired to provide would be used to prepare for and carry out the federal offense of destroying energy facilities.

 

“These three defendants admitted to engaging in a disturbing plot, in furtherance of white supremacist ideology, to attack energy facilities in order to damage the economy and stoke division in our country,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security Matthew G. Olsen. “The Justice Department is committed to investigating and disrupting such terrorist plots and holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.”

 

“These defendants conspired to use violence to sow hate, create chaos, and endanger the safety of the American people,” said U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker for the Southern District of Ohio. “As this case shows, federal and state law enforcement agencies are dedicated to working together to protect this country against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

 

“The defendants in this case wanted to attack regional power substations and expected the damage would lead to economic distress and civil unrest,” said Assistant Director Timothy Langan of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division. “These individuals wanted to carry out such a plot because of their adherence to racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist views. When individuals move from espousing particular views to planning or committing acts of violence the FBI will investigate and take action to stop their plans. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to protect our communities.”
