Investigators so far have found firearms, explosives, spoiled food and a trench of human feces at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, federal prosecutors said.

The FBI is expected to take 21 days to complete processing "crime scenes'' at the federal property in Harney County, which includes 24 structures and an outdoor camping area, the prosecutors wrote in court records filed Tuesday.

The FBI Evidence Response Team began its work last Friday. The team initially found "significant amounts'' of human feces in and around the outdoor camping area and "large food stores that are spoiling'' in living quarters on the refuge outside Burns, Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ethan Knight and Geoffrey Barrow wrote.

Federal officials have found two large excavated trenches and an "improvised road on or adjacent to grounds containing sensitive artifacts,'' the prosecutors wrote.

"At least one of these trenches contains human feces,'' according to Knight and Barrow.

Judge orders Cliven Bundy held, citing 'ongoing defiance of federal court orders'

A federal judge Tuesday ordered Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy to remain in custody pending trial on a complaint stemming from his 2014 standoff with federal agents trying to round up his cattle grazing on public land.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Janice M. Stewart found Bundy, 69, remains a danger to the community and a risk to flee, citing his "ongoing defiance of federal court orders.''

If Bundy is allowed to return to his Nevada ranch, Stewart said she agreed with the government that it likely will be "the last we see of him.''

Bundy is expected to return to Nevada for his next court appearance, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Nevada. That suggests an indictment may be issued soon, canceling a scheduled preliminary hearing on Friday in Portland.

Cox, a Sovereign Citizen, opines at length about everything from the International Monetary Fund to the Bar Association.

Cliven Bundy, 4 others face federal indictment in Nevada

Ammon Bundy, brother Ryan Bundy, Ryan Payne and Peter Santilli -- already indicted in the armed takeover of a federal wildlife refuge in eastern Oregon -- now face federal indictment along with Cliven Bundy in the 2014 armed standoff near the Bundy ranch in Nevada.

The indictment charges the four with 16 felonies: one count of conspiring to commit an offense against the United States, one count of conspiring to impede or injure a federal officer, four counts of carrying a firearm in a crime of violence, two counts of assault on a federal officer, two counts of threatening a federal law enforcement officer, three counts of obstructing justice, two counts of interfering with interstate commerce by extortion and one count of interstate travel in aid of extortion.

Oregon House votes to shield identity of cop who shot LaVoy Finicum

SALEM — The Oregon House passed a bill Wednesday to shield the identity of the officer who killed standoff spokesman Robert "LaVoy" Finicum.

In a bipartisan vote, the House approved legislation that would let a judge bar for 90 days the disclosure an officer's name who uses deadly force. It passed 55-3, and now heads to the Senate.

The bill came at the request of Oregon State Police Superintendent Richard Evans, Jr., who told a Democratic lawmaker that he has received death threats against the officer who shot Finicum last month. Police haven't identified the officer, citing an ongoing investigation.

"This bill is deadly serious," said Rep. Jeff Barker, D-Aloha, told the House chamber Wednesday. "This isn't to protect a wrongdoer. It isn't to protect a police department that screwed up."

State police board seeks investigation of Grant County sheriff who met militants

The state agency that licenses Oregon police officers has asked the state Justice Department to investigate Grant CountySheriff Glenn Palmer, who met with leaders of the armed occupation of the wildlife refuge and then was scheduled to speak at a community meeting featuring the occupiers.

The state Department of Public Safety Standards and Training recently recommended that the Justice Department investigate after it received several citizen complaints about Palmer's conduct in recent weeks.

The complaints and details of the allegations weren't immediately available, but the licensing agency notified at least one complainant that if the allegations were true, Palmer's conduct would violate state regulations.

On Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Billy Williams released a report in district court which provides the first description of the condition of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, a site sacred to the Burns Paiute Tribe after a 41-day armed standoff with militants led by Ammon Bundy.

The refuge was once part of the 1.8 million acre Malheur Indian reservation which belonged to several Northern Paiute bands including the nearby Burns Paiute tribe. The buildings the militants occupied demanding the “return” of federal lands to ranchers, miners and loggers contained over 4,000 artifacts and maps of graves and other culturally significant sites on the refuge.

When asked what he thought of the latrines Kennedy said, “Just see this…this is their mindset—not really caring about anything. For them to do that in that area is so disgusting.”

She noted how the occupation has brought her tribe together and even members of the community who have historically been at odds with the tribe.

However, she has received threatening letters, emails and texts from Bundy supporters which she immediately forwards to the FBI. “If it has a Colorado prefix,” Roderique says, “ I can be sure it’s one of the militia people here on their cell phone.”

 

Although, no one in the tribe is happy with the late militant spokesman LaVoy Finicum’s death after he ran a police blockade and charged police while armed they do wonder if it is tied to his handling of their artifacts in the Youtube video he put out criticizing the way the tribe’s artifacts were stored.

 

“He [Finicum} had the bag of flints he was waving them and the next day he is dead,” Roderique told ICTMN. “He should never have picked those up and disturbed those spirits who made them. If it is flint arrowheads, someone who was a warrior or was a good hunter—those are the kind who can come back and do these things.”

Cliven Bundy Indicted, Denied Bail, Will Face Trial in Nevada, Meanwhile BLM Stumped On What to Do With His Cows

 

Earlier this month, according to a report from Nano News, the FBI arrested rancher-turned-radical Cliven Bundy in Portland, Oregon.

As PBS reports, he was promptly indicted by a Federal grand jury in Nevada in 16 separate federal felonies for his armed standoff in 2014, including multiple charges of harming, threatening, and planning to harm federal officers, and multiple extortion charges.

But what about the cows?

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Land Management still has a big problem on their hands: namely, the herd of cows that started all of this.

 

While Cliven Bundy is held pending his trial, according to E&E News, his herd of roughly 1,000 head of cattle are still roaming the Mojave Desert, leaving destruction in their wake, trampling sensitive soils, devouring native vegetation, and damaging archaeological artifacts, not to mention trampling a community garden and a golf course, and even assaulting a Nevada wildlife official.

 

nd while the BLM, following court orders, desperately wants those cattle gone, they have no idea how they’re going to do it, according to Ken Mayer, former director of the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

 

“It’s like hunting cape buffalo. They’re nasty, they’re smart, and they won’t hesitate to charge.”

 

On top of the sheer logistics involved, the last time the BLM attempted to round up Bundy’s cows, over 400 armed individuals showed up to stop them, including various “militias” such as The Oathkeepers, Praetorian Guard, and White Mountain Militia.

 

Meanwhile, all the BLM can do is “continue to cooperate with the Department of Justice on the on-going legal matter,” and watch Bundy’s cattle trample the region. Most contractors refuse to even consider the contract to help round up Bundy’s herd, given the very real dangers of being shot or gored, not to mention that Bundy actively sent threats to the last contractor to consider it, in 2012.

 

“I will serve you and yours and company a constructive notice making you and anyone aiding or abetting with you accountable for all loss, damages, or expenses to my life, liberty, and property. RANGE WAR!”

What LaVoy Finicum shooting investigation found

BEND – The results of the police investigation into the shooting death of Robert "LaVoy" Finicum contrast with claims made by witnesses and Finicum supporters since the Jan. 26 shooting.

Finicum was shot as he tried to evade arrest on a rural highway 20 miles north of Burns. He was among leaders of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge on their way to a community meeting in nearby John Day to talk about their cause.

Here's a comparison of the claims versus the investigative findings:

AMBUSH:

Claim: Police trapped Finicum in an ambush intending to kill him.

Investigation: Investigators said operation planners devised a traffic stop to safely take the occupation leaders into custody. Oregon State Police shot and killed Finicum only when he appeared ready to use deadly force.

NO TIME TO STOP:

Claim: Finicum had no chance to stop when encountering the roadblock, forcing him to drive off the road to avoid a collision.

Investigation: Investigators calculated Finicum had 862 feet – nearly the length of three football fields – to stop once he saw the roadblock. A state police van chasing him did manage to stop. Investigators experimented twice, replicating Finicum's estimated speed, and concluded he could have stopped.

FBI agents under investigation for possible misconduct in LaVoy Finicum shooting

BEND – An FBI agent is suspected of lying about firing twice at Robert "LaVoy" Finicum and may have gotten help from four other FBI agents in covering up afterward, authorities revealed Tuesday.

The bullets didn't hit Finicum and didn't contribute to his death, but now all five unnamed agents, part of an elite national unit, are under criminal investigation by the U.S. Justice Department. Inspector General Michael Horowitz is leading the independent inquiry.

The remarkable disclosure came as a team of local investigators released findings that two state troopers shot Finicum three times in the back during the chaotic scene at a police roadblock Jan. 26. One bullet pierced his heart, an autopsy showed.
