So, the team did not pick up Evan Spencer.  I know he was hurt last game, but I was hoping he impressed enough for a practice squad slot.  Any news or is he gone?

 

Finally got the answer I was looking for. Interesting that after Spencer negotiates an injury settlement with the team, he would then become a free agent and could sign with any team.  However, he has to wait six weeks from the time of his settlement before he could re-sign with the Redskins as a member of the 53-man roster or practice squad.  I did not know that.

Redskins rookie wide receiver Evan Spencer went unclaimed Sunday after getting waived with an injured designation on Saturday. As a result, Spencer reverted to Washington’s injured reserve list.

 

 

 

Fullback Jordan Campbell, an undrafted rookie whom Washington waived with a shoulder injury on Saturday, also went unclaimed and reverted to the injured reserve list.

I'm talking about last year.

I'm the last person to base anything in the 2015 regular season on the 2015 presason.

Ah, well, last year the play calling was crap.  Which was probably due to:

1. A QB carousel due to incompetence and injury

2. An OL that specialized in zone blocking but a skill position group that couldn't set the edge (both TE and WR)

3. 1st year in an offense/learning what people where good at

4. Just bad play calling

 

I would hope that this year they're going to be able to find something that works.  What it seems like they are going to try and do is power-run, play-action off of that, with some quick WCO style throws in there as well.  That would seem logical.

 

The biggest question is whether or not the OL can actually run-block a power style game.  Yet to be seen.  And with a rookie and a virtual rookie on the right side, there might be some growing pains.

I actually think the power run blocking scheme plays to the strengths of that young right side. It's the inevitable pass blocking growing pains that concern me the most.

I feel like I've already been through a crappy season and I'm waiting for the draft

 

I feel fairly similar. I don't want to assume what the reasons are for you, but for me, Gruden just feels like a lame duck HC already, destined to be replaced. Like Shanahan's last year and Zorn's last year, it just feels inevitable and apathy will set in early among the fanbase.

Bad news is that if this season is bust we are looking at a rookie QB next year which probably means at least two more seasons of losing.

They probably won't Fire gruden this year but likely would after year 4 of losing which means brand new coach coming in who didn't get to pick / groom his QB. And so, the sad farce continues.
