Redskins to host former Saints outside linebacker Junior Galette for visit

Saints fan here. Quite the opposite actually. He fights his own teammates, he constantly calls out his own teammates publicly, and coaches hate him.

Football wise, he only cares about sacks and gives up immediately on running plays. Division rivals figured that out and constantly run the ball at him. If you think Orakpo was one dimensional, wait til you see Galette play.

Living in Mississippi, most friends and family I have are saints fans. Most of the time I end up watching Saints games on Sunday when I can't get Redskins games. I have to agree with Porculator here. He's not really a team player. However, he might change. If we sign him to a one or two year deal, he might play better. That way, when he gets to FA again, he can score a big deal. Just thoughts. In GMSM I trust

Just saw the video...meh...it's street brawl on a beach, one where he seems vastly outnumbered (like the fighting spirit ;)) "In today's National Football League" he seems almost passive, dude could have done some serious damage, seemed strangely in control of his aggression considering.

Do we know what started it? Seems to break up a fight at the end too, hard to understand what's happening in it....fine him, suspend him I guess but run him out of the league for this?!?! Really? There has to be more to the guy.

Best thing about all this is that Scot is in control and I trust him completely.

Even if you ignore his personality (impossible to do since his immaturity bleeds through to his play) he wouldn't even be a good fit on the Skins.  Galette is a OLB in name only.  He is a hand down, 4-3 DE, because he literally can't do anything but rush the passer.  The only use he might have for the Skins is as a 3rd down pass rush specialist.

porculator's post scares me cause it seems like he's seen him play.  I like the production but do we need the potential headache?  Still trusting in Scotty Mac's acumen at this point.

Exactly. I have given up playing GM for a while. We have someone who knows his **** when it comes to evaluating football players. If this guy is truly one-dimensional, then I'm sure our GM either already knows or will quickly figure it out. If we sign him, I will also assume it's for a specific role or there are circumstances that made him appear one-dimensional.

I'm not going to assume that McCloughan won't swing and miss, but overall I'm going to trust that he knows what he's doing.

I'm guessing all this happened after he was no longer motivated post-extension? Why was he voted a team captain last year? Some things just don't seem to be adding up. The off-field stuff is worrisome, but the locker room cancer stuff seems convenient, considering the Saints have to justify the release...kinda like with Desean and the Eagles last year.

I wasnt totally ready to believe all of that until I saw his GF's twitter feed record after he got cut.  Man, you must really be a headcase if you throw absolutely every one of your former teamates, save one or two, under the boss for being cut by the GM

So what is wrong with a nickle package pass rush specialist? Especially if we get him on the cheap? We are probably in our nickle package more than our base package.

Winning cures all ills.  When you're winning, your immaturity just means you're "raw."  Your uncontrolled rage means you're "intense."  Your jealousy and obsession with making more money than your teammates means you're "motivated."

Start to lose, like the Saints did last year, and you're the last person anyone would want to have in the locker room.

That said, if the Skins sign him it will be entertaining at least.  Instead of talking about RG3's stupid tweets all week, people could talk about Galette throwing RG3 under the bus every single week, or possibly his latest arrest.

Guys, the dude hit a woman with a belt and then went nuclear in a Twitter tirade about personal crap in the Saints locker room.

Our locker room is a FEMA disaster area. This guy is exactly the type we should not even come close to right now. It is honestly asinine to even think about signing him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not clamoring for the guy, but I won't condemn GM Scott for the move, either.

Most likely, if they sign him, it will be a one or two year deal that the Redskins can easily get out of with no cap ramifications if the guy starts acting like an idiot.

They won't take but so much risk on him.

This.

You have to remember perhaps the most important part of this article is that the Saints are on the hook for all the guaranteed money. Bruce Allen is still in charge of contracts and despite all his other shortcomings as the former GM, his ability to sign players to team friendly deals has been nothing short of outstanding.

I'm not a huge fan of this move either. Is he a better player right now then Murphy or Smith? Absolutely. But Murphy also seems to have worked his ass of this offseason and was very good against the run last year. I don't argue upgrading on the field, but I'm not sure Galette is the guy I'd like to see brought in. I won't be overly upset and for those of you worried about the money I don't think you have anything to worry about because I believe the contract will leave us on the hook for damn near nothing. My biggest issue is his character, but I do believe we have an incredibly high character locker room. Perhaps most importantly is that everyone seems to be happiest when winning. With the amount of high character in our locker room, if we are winning this year and he helps do that, I don't see it being a problem. Regardless of wins/losses though, I'm positive if we sign him the contract will give us zero issues financially in terms of cutting him at any point if he decides to do something foolish.

And I would be fine with that role. Trent Murphy was the top rated OLB against the run last season according to PFT. That could make an interesting tandem on the other side of Kerrigan.

"And the 2013 video that surfaced this past June and depicts a group brawl in which a man that appears to be Galette beats a woman with a belt is chilling. However, his attorney insists that was not him."

"However, ever since he became available, McCloughan and Allen began digging into Galette’s past, talking to people familiar with the player, trying to gain a better understanding of who he is, sources said. One such person he likely talked to was DeAngelo Hall, who shares an agent with Galette." Wapo

Will be interesting to see if the Skins decide to offer Galette a contract and add him to the team.

Much of the mantra from the organization since SM was hired is that the team is looking for high quality character guys to build the team around.

Galette certainly doesn't seem to fit in that equation based on his off field actions as well as conflict with his former teammates and Saints organization.

Quite a few on here have bashed the Cowboys plenty for signing guys with serious issues to it will be interesting to see how that same issue is looked at if the Skins follow suit and sign Galette.  Similar to bashing other teams when their players get busted for PED's, steroids and such then try and excuse when Skin's players get busted for the very same thing.

In this day and age it's nearly impossible to have a team filled with choir boys and all high character guys.  If SM wants to sign Galette and take the chance on a risk/reward type player then fine he deserves the benefit of the doubt to make that move.

Just remember that while it's fun to bash other teams for their mistakes and win at all cost mentality that in the end this franchise isn't any better in that department except for the fact that they haven't figured out the most important part which is WINNING - for the better part of the last 2 decades plus...

Provided he doesn't come into the interview swinging at anyone, write him a friendly deal that leaves outs if he gets suspended.

Talent is talent, and talent wins football games.

So long as he won't wreck the locker room, i see no problem with taking a look.

How is it repugnant when they were being attacked?

Probably just the fact to beat a woman with a belt. I realize we don't know the all story and he might have reasons for reacting like he did. Assuming that's him, since his lawyer disagrees. Maybe he was attacked as you mentioned, but there is no excuse for beating a woman.

It's amazing how polarized this news is, in all the comments I've seen on different sites.  Seems about 50-50 with mostly extreme opinions both ways.

I'm for getting him out there on our D personally.  We want a football superbowl, not a boyscouts crown.

(I also never agree with the "we're not one player away anyway," argument.  That's a recipe for never getting there.)

I think he was referring to the video that is available all over the internet.  It shows him getting attacked by several people and him swinging his belt around to keep them from getting closer and one of the last people coming at him as part of the mob was a woman, then he got pulled away...also later in the video it appears he comes in and stops some real savage violence where a woman was getting beat almost into the ground by another part of (I believe the group that was attacking him?) and breaks it up.  Honestly I have no idea the full story on what was going on there but it leaves a way bigger defense than when people say plainly "he beat a woman with a belt"

It wasn't a domestic violence thing where he just beat a helpless, defenseless woman with his belt; the woman was coming at him as part of a mob.  Also it depends on what you consider "beating" someone with a belt, because in the video he swings the belt at a woman once and it appears to hit her somewhere around her arm from what I remember.

Still, its baggage, not something you want to see from your football players...but he seems pretty talented from what I can tell.  If SM talks to him and is satisfied with his story and his personality I wouldn't question it; we would be getting him cheap as well so the cap risk is very low.  I will trust SM&co's  judgement on this one.

Not to mention I can imagine half of our football team reacting the same way in the same situation, as someone mentioned before they aren't saints.

I haven't frequented this site as much as I used to when I was younger or I would be more brushed up on the rules but I do not think I am allowed to post the link to the video or I would.

That's the other part of all this.  Through his attorney, he's gone on record as saying that's not even him on the tape, so if it's determined that IS actually him, then he's a liar that isn't willing to own up to this.  Which would speak to him being the kind of guy that's liable to get into more trouble.  Kinda Floyd Mayweather-esque with an "I never laid a hand on anybody" attitude, even though there's a trail of beat up people behind him.

If it's not him, then the Saints just cut him just cuz he's a bad guy to have in the locker room. That's not good either.
