PFT: Chris Baker was ejected for hit that doesn’t violate the rules

I have no idea what Vincent and the rules committee are talking about. It was definitely an illegal hit.

Rule 12, Section 2, Article 7

It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture

 (a) Players in a defenseless posture are:

     (7) A quarterback at any time after a change of possession

It was clearly unnecessary contact. Breeland was going down and Foles was 10 yards away from the play. Baker saw a chance to issue a cheap shot and he took it. Referees got it right. Vincent and his committee got it wrong.

had the whistle blown ... or not?  Play is alive until that happens and anything can happen ... he could fumble it while going down as one very real and prime example.

It's pretty obvious from the gif posted that Foles was making a move towards the ball and that's why it was deemed a legal hit.

As far as the hit on Cousins:

"Cox didn't hear the whistle" isn't a very good excuse in my opinion. If that's all it takes to not get a penalty in that situation, then defensive players should just blowup the opposing QB on all dead ball whistles and then look around like "whistle?".

It's obvious that the play was blown dead. DeSean, Roberts, Niles, Chester all on that same side of the ball completely stop on the play. Yet Cox takes a free run at the QB. It's cool though, because he didn't hear the whistle.

I called that a good hit when I saw it.

The way philly fans feel is subject to their

Team of choice.

I was irate about the cousins hit and saw a player making a move toward the ball carrier then BAM!

AWESOME HIT IT THS SHOULDER.... not the back or side . I didn't know it was the qb till moments later

I posted this in the twitter thread but for sake of comparison on hits (foles vs cousins) that has been discussed here, here it is again...

#Eagles fans getting high & mighty over Baker hit on Foles, don't forget the Cox hit on Cousins. Whistle went here.

But that didn't stop Cox hitting Cousins, despite having plenty of time to pull up.

When the NFL states it wasn't illegal, you're going to still think it was dirty?

The most obvious example of this exact sane situation was when Sapp ended a GB players career on a hit just like this. McCarthy went bananas...

If you want to see malicious, look at the Sapp hit.

Sapp's season ending hit on Chad Clifton is what prompted rule changes about htting defenseless players out of the area of play. It was a cheap shot, and then coach Mike Sherman (before McCarthy's time) was yelling at Sapp at the end of the game, calling him a punk.

The hit by Baker was legal, but it was a dirty cheap shot. The hit on Cousins was illegal, and also a dirty cheap shot. The hit on Bernie Kosar's daughter was a dirty money shot.

Riggotoni,

How do you define "defenseless players out of the area of play?"  Is it really only three strides away moving towards the play?  From the video when Baker hit Foles, Breeland was not yet down.  Foles line of progress would have them intersecting.

Unnecessary hit probably, but dirty and cheap... nope.  And remember, this is the NFL where any hit is now deemed fineable.  For Baker's hit to warrant no fine, suspension, and for them to go so far as to clear him of wrongdoing is almost unheard of.

What's up with kosar's daughter?

The hit on DeSean Jackson while he was on the ground in the 1st quarter was the actual cheap shot of the day. Dude went straight for his injured shoulder too.

Yes! I almost forgot about that. Then they show the replay and Aikman goes on a rant acting like DeSean started that whole thing. I was yelling at the tv: "did you not see DeSean get hit while lying on the ground?"

And then the dumbass duo of Buck and Aikman kept repeating the play all day misinterpreting it as Jackson actually being at fault there for shoving when in reality it was bacause Jackson was already down and the dude stopped then dropped on him with his shoulder.

That play right there actually tells me that the Eagles defenders were talking about taking shots at his shoulder and that dude saw his chance.

The point of the story is that during a game, Kosar commentating said of the Rams WRs "Their play is so bad, I'd be embarrassed to be their parents." And so the web exploded afterwards with "really, how about your daughter?"..

Well then they'd have to be some REALLY bad WR's for Kosar to be embarassed to be their parents lol.

Burg,

I said it was legal. He was in the area. I think Baker took advantage of the rules to get in a cheap shot, not to potentially change the outcome of the play. Still, it was legal.

The Sapp shot was legal at the time. Now it would be a penalty because Clifton was on the other side of the field and as I recall hadn't even realized the ball had been intercepted. Sapp blindsided him.

Foles was (barely) headed towards the action, so refs should not have penalized Baker for the hit. Still, if Trent Cole had pulled that on RG3, we would be screaming and ranting, and with good reason.

See this Kicker/QB defensive tackle controversy is similar to the controvery behind Domestic Violence against Men.

in comparison:

the two presumed weaker beings in both situations (Women[Domestic Violence] & QB/Kicker[Football])

are both trying to do some kind of action usually reserved for the stronger being (Hit another Man [Domestic Violence] & Tackle[Football])

But while the presumed weaker being (Women/ QB/Kicker) does those actions of a presumed stronger being (Men [Domestic Violence] & Non-QB/Kicker [Football])

the presumed stronger being in the situation gets made the victimiser when reacting to the presumed weaker being, acting as a presumed stronger being. (Men hitting back [Domestic Violence] & Non-QB/Kicker blocks a QB/Kicker [Football])

Damn. That's cold. Though I'm not sure which is more embarrassing....

Didn't Kosar lose all if his money somehow,

(Sneaks away to look up Lexxi Silver)

Lol, you haven't heard about Kosar's daughter yet :P

Apparently I'm behind the times on former football player daughter's in porn.

In simplest terms, one is paid to be in a hazzardous situation and one is not.  In football there is an expectation of violence while in marriage or with the person you love best there should not be.  Husband and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend, parent and child are there to protect each other and nurture each other not beat upon the other.

A QB is a professional athlete usually played tens of millions of dollars to win a game and endure a certain amount of risk/physical punishment. They are typically in as good a physical shape as they can be and are trained how to take a blow, how to fall, etc.

Your typical six your child not so much.  Your typical wife or girlfriend also not so much.

Domestic abuse is an ugliness that is trivialized by comparing it to football.
