ESPN: Kirk Cousins Open to Being Traded

There were 2 teams he did not want to get drafted by, and he got drafted by one of them.

It's not high risk to assume that as likely true.

Its not hard to make ones own speculations looks like actual news

Mike put a ton of pressure on the kid to dominate in his limited chances. Ironically, dominating in his tiny window to do so, is the only way he could get a chance at a starting position... but its an unreal expectation to expect 1 or 2 game greatness.

Think of all the backup QB's in time that were Flynns \ Kolb's. What % of backup QBs fetch a kings ransom return. Or, 4th rounders.

Mike banked on a dumbarse GM overpaying. The more the QB mega over payments fail, the less likely another is going to happen. It seems he may have been the dumbarse.

Kirk is screwed for the near future. And we are too, as we will likely have to keep a vet on hand eating up a ST ace slot.

Yeah, you don't get it. It's not about justifying why Kirk is doing it or whether he has the right to feel the way he does---he does. They're his feelings, it's his dream. He has the right to those.

That has nothing to do with what's best for the Washington Redskins, or what this fan wants. It's my opinion. You can feel free to have your own, and more power to you if it's different from mine---but THIS fan wants Kirk Cousins to shut his yapper about playing elsewhere while he's still under contract with the Washington Redskins. Speaking out about it does nothing to increase his chances of being traded---the entire NFL knows how he feels. Every GM and HC, including our own. All it does is distract. And more importantly to me (the guy posting this opinion), is that it....annoys ME. Which is why I posted what I did. Feel free to disagree. Just don't fall under the illusion that you're making any points that can sway me, nor should you. I'm just one fan. But I have access to all the info that you do, and this is how I feel about it.

Distract from what?  The team isn't even together.  I'd say 75% of the guys are back at their own houses all over the country.  I'm sure there are some hanging around Redskins Park, but I'm not sure what the distraction is.

That's the thing and even if he did say some stuff KC seems like a class act guy and didn't talk out of school last year so it would seem that he would be out of character.

I think he is in general as well, but when he threw out that passive-aggressive soundbite about Robert being involved in choosing the next HC I soured on him a bit. He is a very smart guy and has always handled the media well so I see no way that was an accident and he completely misspoke.

As far as him wanting to start...good for him, that's what I expect. Every backup wants to start or be traded to a team where they could potentially start. Nothing new there. Bottom line is he isn't a starter and he hasn't played well enough to really warrant being considered for an open competition here or a high enough round pick to give him to another team.

The hypocrisy is hilarious with this one! Ryan Mallett is also a coveted back up QB you don't hear a peep from Ryan Mallett. We already know Kirk wants to start, every back up QB wants to start but i'm tired of hearing Kirk campaign for a starting job 24/7.

Our fanbase bashed RGIII for saying he was all in for week 1 and called him selfish, a spoiled brat, annoying but the Golden Boy Kirk Cousins continues to say he wants to be a starter and fans say "well we all know he wants to be a starter, what's the big deal?"

But when RGIII says "This is my team, I want to be out there week 1 and i'll do whatever it takes to be there week 1 for my teammates" the fanbase doesn't have his back and say "i'm so glad we have a QB who would die to play" but instead says "God this guy is so annoying" "It's not all about you RGIII" "just sit down and shut up RGMe"

Good old Redskins fan hypocrisy, we bashed Portis but loved betts, trash orakpo but love rob jackson, bash RGIII but love Kirk, bashed D.hall (prior to this season) but love Chase Minnifield. I've never seen another fanbase that bashes it's starters and praises it's backups other than Dallas QB situation with Tony Romo sits to pee. lol

@HTTR24_7 touched on this subject i'm talking about on twitter a little ago

If RGIII was doing this **** that Cousins is doing..Redskins fans would escort him out of town. They cried off anything RGIII said last year

I agree with Lavar for once.Kirk Cousins needs to Shut up..

@LaVarArrington Kirk's been at it for awhile.Subliminal comments in his pressers during the season, Saying Rob would pick the coach, & now

@LaVarArrington he is doing the media circut wanting to be traded etc.. Way too much Kirk Cousins talk the last 3 months.

Just curious Redskins Fan why doesn't any criticize Cousins for being so chatty about his "status" lately?

Again Kirk was the one who said RGIII would pick the coach, but yet no fans are telling him to shut his trap especially after a 3-13 season where everyone on the roster played bad.

The comment from QB Kirk Cousins: "I'm sure Mr. Snyder and Robert and those people will have a lot of input as to who the hire is." Later the Redskins stated that Griffin wouldn't be involved. It strikes me as an off the cuff remark -- and not very precisely worded, but the media ran with it.

Not sure why this was such a big deal, other starting QBs have been involved in the selection of their next coach, (some have even sat in the interview) --- much less being asked to provide input to the decision maker.

But it's a sensitive point in Washington, because Snyder was already perceived as giving special treatment/status to Griffin at the expense of the Skins coaches' authority.

Frankly, I suspect I'm not alone in my belief that someone (likely Snyder, perhaps even Allen) DID ask Griffin for his opinion about Gruden, before the Skins closed the deal.

That's because RG3 wasn't in any fit state TO start in week 1. He was called selfish and annoying because his actions were all about himself and not what was right for the team. Basically I will play whether I am ready or not. Cousins is saying I want to start. Whether he is good or not is another argument but, assuming he is 100% fit, I don't see what the problem is with his comments. I would rather have a back-up quarterback who wants to play rather than one who is happy carrying a clipboard.

Phillip Rivers played a season with a torn acl, these are football players you fight through injuries to play for your teammates, no one is ever 100%. To call him selfish, annoying and a diva is out of line. He's not desean jackson, he's never been a selfish person he's a guy who was putting his well being on the line to play for the redskins. Yet you have Kirk Cousins who can do no wrong and has been talking nonstop all offseason to the point it's getting annoying.

When HTTR24_7 agrees with enemy number 1 Lavar Arrington on the subject then you KNOW it's annoying. As a back up QB your job is to say "That's not up to me, talk to the coaches." not campaign like a politician how you want to start in this league and you don't want to step on any toes but you really want to be a starter.

I wonder what would happen in Green Bay, Seattle, Denver, New England, New Orleans, Indianapolis if their back up QBs said they wanted to start, their fanbase would run them out of town. Back up QB's are to be seen not heard, he needs to shut his trap and work on his game because the last 3 games he played he was TERRIBLE.

Uh, he played a GAME with a torn ACL.  You can't expect people to take your post seriously when you start it off saying that he played an entire season with a torn ACL.

You keep spoiling any case you might have with these over the top hyperbolic statements.

There are two interviews I am aware of were Cousins has made comments about wanting a chance to start somewhere (note he has NOT being saying he should be starting in Washington). Are you aware of other interviews or comments? Does two comments since the end of last season equal "talking non stop"?

Funny...the "if Robert had done this" and "if that had been Robert people would have been [fill in the blank]" conversations continue months later. Comparing what Kirk Cousins does and what Robert Griffin does is like comparing apples and oranges for so many reasons starting with their draft position, personal marketing styles and standing on the team..right or wrong, it just is.

Guys (and gals) let it go. Robert will be starting. We have a new coach and as Robert said "a fresh start." Hail!

I think Martin's point applies to you too! Honestly, the sensitivity of the RG3 fan boys is laughable.

Ahh yes, there it is. Calling Cousins out for creating distractions whilst he galivants from station to station claiming he'd like to be traded makes me an RGIII fanboy, however trashing Griffin for doing a subway ad, which promotes the team as well by the way, is just being a realist. You guys are a trip, I swear.

It's hilarious to see the guys who bash Griffin for anything act like Kirk's non-stop yapping is no big deal...

But I'm an RGIII supporter - been consistently supportive of him and I'm thrilled he is our QB - and yet I also think this whole story is no big deal. Go figure.

My apologies I stand corrected it was one game but i'm glad you brought this up....when RGIII came back in the Seattle game he was called selfish, annoying a me first type of guy. San Diego fans never say this about Phillip Rivers when he came back in the AFC championship game after he injured his acl.

There's a double standard for Kirk Cousins he can talk all he wants about how he wants to start for another team. Yet fans bash RGIII for everything and you guys give Kirk a pass. I'm not the only redskin fan who sees it, even Lavar sees it and he's SUPER critical on RGIII.

I'm an RGIII and Kirk supporter I have no problem with what Kirk said and I have no problem with RGIII's actions last year it's just hilarious how hypocritical some are....The bashed RGIII for absolutely nothing last year yet they wont bash Kirk for absolutely nothing this year? lmaoooo

Understanding of the lack of mutual exclusivity between two ideas:  You're doing it right.

I'm an ardent RGIII supporter.  I also was at the playoff game where, after the second touchdown pass, he CLEARLY wasn't himself.  Rivers was a completely different story.  This apple juice to orange soda analogy has to stop.

There was reason to bash Arrington (read: irony), Haynesworth, McNabb, Deion Sanders, Vinny, etc.  There is no reason to bash RGIII or Cousins.  Why does it have to be one or the other?  Why can't people who bash either of them be equally embarrassing to our fanbase?

You want equality but don't treat people who bash as equals.  That's, interesting.

Another Kirk Cousins post talking about if he was traded it would be great BUTTTTTT the kid isn't being annoying.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/02/28/kirk-cousins-a-trade-would-be-great-but-backing-up-rg3-is-great-too/

Let me know when Kirk is going to shut up and work on his game, the last 3 games he was TERRIBLE.

What do you call 3-10?

What games were you watching?  He wasn’t bad against dallas or atlanta and the weather in NY was horrendous that day.  Amazing how people see what they want to see not what actually happened.  Oh, lets not forget Cousins was sacked only once in the first 3 games compared to how many for RG???  Ratio isn’t even close. Cousins is a good QB and should be given a shot to start but some people are afraid Cousins will win so we’ll never know.  :-)

What do you call 3-10?

Obviously it was the offensive line.

Cousins continues to campaign for a trade and Redskin fans instead want to talk about how bad RGIII played instead of wonder why Cousins won't shut his trap? LMFAOOOO Like I said this fanbase is full of hypocrites!

He was TERRIBLEEEEEEE, he went from teams seriously considering offering a late 1st rounder or early 2nd rounder to teams not even interested at all.

I don't know who the better QB is but I do know they were both terrible and if RGIII gets criticism from redskins fans for talking then Cousins needs that same criticism for talking.

Except Kirk couldn't hold Luck's jock. The blind Luck hate was stupid because the dude was good.

I'm not sold on any QB on the roster when it comes to playing on Sundays but the double standards for what can be said off the field is bs.

But hey, this is the same place that was advocating keeping Pat White on the 53 the whole season last year...
