Attending Live Sporting Events (Survey)

CrypticVillain

Recommended Posts

Extreme Skins, I need help for my statistics class. Just a simple survey on attending live sporting events.

I picked this topic because I seen a lot of people on here complain about FedEx and whatnot, so I am just trying to throw some numbers behind it. The only people that will see this is the people here on ES and the people who decide to show up to my class...

You get nothing for doing this except for the satisfaction of helping a college student get one step closer to finishing college. :D Honestly, please help me out ES.

UPDATE: Thanks to all that participated. I am bumping this one last time to see if I can get some more participants, the more data that better. Thanks again...

What do you like most about live sporting events?

Getting to see my team play in person, and seeing all the things you don't get to see in a live play on TV with camera angles.

What don't you like most about live sporting events?

Fans of my own favorite team who don't understand simple things such as the words to hail to the Redskins, and when to cheer/when not to, or how to control themselves- their mouths, drinking, etc. in a public setting.

Do you live in the vicinity of your favorite team(s)?

I grew up there, and currently do not, though I shall be moving to VA in the near future.

Does winning effect rather you go to a sporting event or not?

No.

Do you take kids to live sporting events?

Define "kids". The first game I ever went to was MNF when I was in 4th grade because I begged my mom to go. Some drunk idiot spilled a beer on me. I wouldn't take my own hypothetical children until they're that age or older, and only if I'm sure they could handle it alright.

Are you a college student?

I was recently, but no.

How do you obtain your tickets?

Website (ticket master, stub hub, etc...)

Free Tickets (job, contest, family/friend, etc...)

It is a combination of those two. I typically purchase tickets to the skins for 55-65 dollars through stub hub to some of the less choice matchups in a given season (Skins vs. Bengals for example, where there won't be high demand driving the prices higher). I typically attend at least 1 game vs. an NFC East opponent per year through my dad's company which gives out tickets. I can only afford to attend a few games this way, especially with work up here and the travel time necessary. If I have the money some day I wouldn't mind being a season ticket holder, but eh...I can't afford something like that.

1. 18-29

2. Male

3. Less than 5 events per year

4. I like: the "atmosphere" of the event, and the camaraderie with my team's fellow fans

5. I don't like: $$$ involved in attending most live events, and terrible other fans (whether they're simply dumb fans, overly drunk, really obnoxious, or violent...or a combination of all four...a lot of bad people can be found at large sporting events)

6. I Don't live anywhere near my favorite teams

7. Winning certainly effects whether I'm going to a sporting event - if I'm going to spend the money and potentially deal with awful people around me in the stands, my team better have a decent shot of winning...especially when I could watch it in comfort on a hi-def TV at home

8. I don't have kids, but it depends on the event I think. I'd rather take a kid to a baseball game than a football game.

9. Not a college student.

10. Obtain my tickets through websites.

What do you like most about live sporting events?

Tailgating with friends and the sense of "being there" which can't be replicated on any 80" high def screen, in my opinion.

What don't you like most about live sporting events?

Drunks and obnoxious fans

Do you live in the vicinity of your favorite team(s)?

20 miles or so

Does winning effect rather you go to a sporting event or not?

No, I look at a losing team (like the Wizards currently) as an opportunity to pick up expensive seats much more cheaply and just enjoy being there.

Do you take kids to live sporting events?

Not yet, they're too young. I will eventually...will probably start my daughter and son with the WNBA, baseball and MLS, lower key atmospheres. Then basketball and hockey. Maybe football when they're older, and even then it will be non-divisional games. I don't think either of them needs to be exposed to the divisional atmosphere until they're ready to handle it.

Not anymore

Website (ticket master, stub hub, etc...)

Used to be a season ticket holder until the aforementioned kids came along. Now a combination of #2 and #3.

What do you like most about live sporting events?

-I love the atmosphere of live sporting events. I love being around fellow fans and watching the game unfold in real time. I love the uniform reaction of a partisan crowd whenever something (good or bad) happens.

What don't you like most about live sporting events?

-Not a fan of the overpriced concessions, but it's a minor trifle.

Do you live in the vicinity of your favorite team(s)?

-I live only about three miles away from Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium where the ECU football team plays.

Does winning effect rather you go to a sporting event or not?

-I'd say cost has more of an a affect on whether or not I go see a sporting event. 70-30 ratio between cost and team performance. For example: if I were living in the D.C. area and had the means and time to do so, I'd probably go and see the Nationals play, regardless of how well they're performing. That's because nose bleed seats are dirty cheap. On the other hand, Redskins tickets are very pricey and I don't know if I'd be willing to cough up the dough, even if they were doing well.

Do you take kids to live sporting events?

N/A (no children)

Are you a college student?

For the time being

How do you obtain your tickets?

Free Tickets (job, contest, family/friend, etc...) but only for university events

The atmosphere. The charge of the arena and you get a better view than watching from TV and the people we sit with make the viewing experience more enjoyable. This is for hockey only for me.

The numbers decreasing as I get older and other things in life come more into play, but for many years it could of been anything from 30 plus- 50/60 plus a season. All soccer games. All over England and Europe. All following Liverpool FC.

What do you like most about live sporting events?

In general, the sense of occasion and ambience live action generates.

Specifically to the above, the sense of community and camaraderie that comes from a group of fans all there for the same reason, and the sacrifices many have made for the cause to be there. The social aspect is almost as big a factor as the actual game itself many times, Meeting up with friends you've known for years, some who've moved away or even those that come from other Country's you'd never see most week's if it wasn't for the common bound of the football club. Going to another City, home or abroad, and totally taking over, draping the place red in a show of fierce Scouse pride.

What don't you like most about live sporting events?

The ever increasing cost that is out of all realms of the rest of society. Your looked on more and more in this day and age as a customer rather than a fan, who's only as good as the size of his/ her bank balance. Irrespective of all the loyal years support and immeasurable finances handed over, over the years.

Do you live in the vicinity of your favorite team(s)?

Yes. Born and bred Liverpudlian, still residing within the City.

Does winning effect rather you go to a sporting event or not?

No. Your a fan, through good times and bad. If it's in your blood, you go no matter how bad it gets. If you pick and chose, then you become much less a fan and more a customer. Everything I hate.

Do you take kids to live sporting events?

If I had any, I most certainly would. Nothing beats being there live for all already mentioned and more.

Are you a college student?

No, but I'm fixing to return as a mature student in the not too distant future.

How do you obtain your tickets?

Season ticket holder

Website (ticket master, stub hub, etc...)

Free Tickets (job, contest, family/friend, etc...)

Season ticket holder for the past 25 years, although it's currently out 'on loan' through circumstance to a friend. But I've built up that good a contact base over the years, that any game I wish to attend I can lay my hands on a ticket for, so I'm covered all ways round.

Hail.
