The last movie you saw......GO! (After you read the OP!!!!)

Long plane rides today:

"No Time to Die" - Felt like it was below average for a Bond film -- even with the high of Ana de Armas.  but I only saw Casino Royal and Skyfall so I feel like some of the plot points are beyond me.  Rami Malek villian acting was fine, but his plotline and motivation were way too convoluted.

"The Lobster" - I can't figure out what I just watched.  Colin Farrell experiences a distopian society where you get turned into an animal if you don't find a romantic mate within 45 days (this is really true)  and somehow there are these weird subcultures, rules and rituals.

Rush.  The 2013 racing movie with Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl playing James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

I don't really like car racing, I'll never watch a NASCAR or an F1 race but this movie is ****ing awesome.  It's a movie I can watch anytime, anywhere.  And right now, it's on Netflix so it's a no-brainer.

It chronicles the 1976 season between Hunt, the British playboy driver and Lauda, the methodical, calculated Austrian driver.  Polar opposite personalities and approaches to driving, great rivals who gained mutual respect for each other and in the end became friends.

There are so many scenes in this movie.  My favorite is when Lauda hitches a ride with this gorgeous woman who doesn't know who he is and their car breaks down on the side of the road.  She tries to hitchhike, standing next to her car in hopes that someone will stop for her.  And the next car does, but only because the two guys in it saw Niki Lauda there.  They let Lauda drive the car and the woman can't figure out what's going on, then basically doesn't believe him when he tells her that he's a racecar driver.  So he floors it, starts weaving in and out of traffic to impress her, which he does.   But what makes the scene is the outright joy of the two guys in the backseat who are having a blast.

Then there's the scene where Hunt beats up a writer for insulting Lauda.  And the final scene where Ron Howard intersperses clips of the real life Hunt and Lauda while the real Lauda, as an old man, is shown.

You don't have to like racing to like this movie, it's just great storytelling, great filmmaking.

What do we give it Billy-Bob?

That’s a great watch…. My dad used to travel Europe to see F1 races during the 70’s and has very cool shots of Lauda, Hunt, Andretti etc all on film. Love F1, you should try to give it a shot watching some races this year to get into it… A salary cap has been implemented this year so it’s a bit more fair and Ferrari/Redbull should have a good fight for the WC.

I actually went to a race about 10-12 years ago in Richmond. I don’t know if it was F1 but the cars looked like they were. Danica Patrick was there, I could remember some of the other big names if I saw them.

It was fun. Of course it was an all day tailgate which had a lot to do with it but the race itself was pretty cool.

That was Indy car, I bet it was still fun thought. F1 popularity has skyrocketed since the Netflix show, races are fun to watch but I can see how it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Watched Top Gun Maverick last night. Quality action flick, seemed to have the fight amount of story, and was only left wondering how or if Penny was mentioned in the first film.

She was. In the original, Maverick was said to have "a history of high-speed passes over five air-control towers and one admiral's daughter". She's the admirals daughter. 😁

Also..Jennifer Connelly has aged well. 😍

Saw White Elephant with Michael Rooker and Bruce Willis. One of the movies he did before he had to retire.

Just your typical mob movie where rival mobs take each other out.

Starts out with 2 cops witnessing a hit man coming out from where he took out one rival. Cops are hunted.

It gets a B-. There was an interesting twist.

Saw Jurassic World 3 today. Nice to see the original trio cast members again. Plenty of dinosaurs; who now live alongside humans in some places. A good conclusion to this current trilogy.

Blue has a little baby now. Gets a solid B.

Hustle.  It's the new Adam Sandler movie on Netflix.

It's pretty good.  I don't think anyone saw Adam Sandler going from a comedic actor to someone who can hold down a serious role but he does it well.  In this movie, he's a basketball scout for the 76ers and is traveling all over the world looking for the next great prospect.

It's a sports movie so there's only a few ways it can really go, there's nothing earth shattering or new (yes there are training montages set to music) here.  Sandler is good, Juancho Hernangomez is solid as the prospect that Sandler lands on and so is Anthony Edwards as the "bad guy" (if there's a bad guy in this movie).

There are a LOT of cameos from NBA players and personnel.  It's pretty impressive, actually.

Overall, I enjoyed it.  I'm giving it a solid B.

Not a movie but The Offer on Paramount+ is very very good. The story of the making of The Godfather.

Whole cast is very good, but I didn't even recognize Juno Temple. I thought maybe she had some heavy makeup on for her character, but google image her and it's still the same. Facial structure is totally different then I remembered.

She looks more like Rosanna Arquette now.

"Forsaken" a western I found on Prime with Donald and Keifer Sutherland and Demi Moore. Pretty standard western plot, but well acted and enjoyable. And only 90 minutes. Good for a watch if you like westerns.

 Forsaken (2015) - IMDb

Dominion sucks worse then the power company.

Not even trying to do this with animatronics, that far removed from the original.  Done entirely with photoshop 😒

Edit: Think that baby triceratops might of been as a "homage" that's it

That's was the plan, last night.

If I hadn't waited so late to watch it, (with whiskey in hand), I would have watched them back-to-back.

I’m watching Aliens (note the “s”) and can’t believe Riply agreed to go on this mission.  She knows the gnashing teeth and ripping claws that await her.  She’s the only one in the universe that knows.  Obviously when asked to go check things out, she declines.  So they sweeten the deal… and all it takes to get her to sign on to the mission back into hell, is offering her her old job back.  Her.  Old.  Job.  No promotion, no giant sack of space cash, just the same job she had in the first place.

I don’t know how much you guys like what you do, but I’ve never had a job in my life that I’d fight xenomorphs to get back.

That’s one property that needs to be put to bed. How many movies about dinosaurs can be effectively made?
