Mr Awesome Posted June 20, 2012 Share Posted June 20, 2012 I have a question. How many of you would prefer hot temps over cold temps. I'm just curious, after reading through Tom [Giants Fan]'s thread. I'd prefer hot. You feel dizzy/out of it/uncomfortable, yeah, but that's a far cry from the torture of freezing, windy weather, and not being able to feel your limbs, and outright pain. You can warm up considerably, but unless we're talking below 10 degrees, I myself would feel the need to take off a few layers after awhile, when my body temp levels out. I prefer cold to heat...I can always put more clothes on....plus, if you're with your boo, she snuggles up to you. Win. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

PCS Posted June 20, 2012 Share Posted June 20, 2012 Toss up between hot and cold weather. Worked out in 20 below weather and that's not including windchill. ****ing miserable way to spend the day. Fingers and toes rarely warm and in pain. Humidity from breathing providing some nice ice buildups on the face,(on the beard or goatee to be exact). Never really get warm. Been up on the roof with temps at 100 and over and that was miserable as well. Make ya sick and stupid. Dangerous around those power tools. I too have done roofing in the hot DC summers and it is miserable. I gotta tell you, something about doing hot tar roofs in 100 degree weather is just miserable... Snow is fun, but more than one day of it and it pisses me off. Hate having to spend an hour getting my car to where I can drive it. Can't wait for another 40 consecutive days of over 100. Mr. Sinister Posted June 20, 2012 Share Posted June 20, 2012 You know, I haven't read/seen a lot of stuff about the war from the japanese soldier perspective, but there is a mission in Just Cause 2 where you take this plane out to a deserted "Lost" style spooky island, where there are a bunch of military bunkers/towers, and some special electrical tower, and you go up against japanese soldiers (who apparently haven't aged) that are still fighting as if the war never ended. I mean like I went to Obama's Inauguration and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. It was THAT cold and it was THAT much of a cluster****. I've been in the Army and have laid in the snow for hours, to the point where my I cant' feel large swaths of my body. The Inauguration was worse than that. The Brazilian wife, who'd barely ever even seen snow at that point in her life, would have probably killed me on the spot for taking her if she knew she'd get away with it. Fun times. But, in general, I prefer the cold to the heat. You can only take off so many layers to cool down. You can do much more to warm up. They both suck though. Doing framing,soffit,fascia,siding,ect. on these roofs here at 7 to 10 thousand feet above sea level can be fun because that Sun is just special that high up in the air. Bleah. Jumbo Posted June 21, 2012 Share Posted June 21, 2012 I've mentioned it before in this forum...and there's a reason he's on my mind lately...but I had the great privilege of being around Bong Soo Han (as he gave his name to us) a few times (Han Bong-Soo formally) . Among other things, we really connected on the mixture of often being very serious and often very goofy. He was quite a man. You can see him in two movies, which, with all the flaws they have, I highly recommend: Billy Jack (he's doing the fighting stunts) and Kentucky Fried Movie (plays the spoof of the villain from Enter The Dragon). I'm pretty sure that house was 120+. **** was unbelievably hot.Ripping up carpet, while wearing a suit and a mask. Not fun. Fort Hood is easily the hottest I've ever experienced. And it's not far enough west in Texas to be in the desert so it's still humid as hell. I remember walking to the PX during lunch and looking at the digital thermometer the bank there had up: 122 degrees. My...favorite story though happened about a week after I got there. As the new guy, of course I got all the **** details. First one I did was a ceremony for the base commander who was retiring. It was a big deal with a lot of VIP in attendance (Sec of the Army for example). They probably had a thousand of us standing out there in the 120 degree summer heat...fully decked out in BDUs and other gear. We probably stood there, at attention, for a good 45 minutes. I was pretty much blind the whole time. The sweat was pouring down my face and into my eyes like it was coming out of a faucet. And it burned so much. The worst part? We weren't supposed to move so I couldn't wipe my face, the whole time. The best part though? There was this random 1SGT there and it seemed like every 30 seconds he was screaming at us under his breath to not move a ****ing muscle. About halfway through, I squint out of the corner of my eye and just see him collapse from heat exhaustion; fell like a rock. They had to run up with water and help carry him off the field. **** him.
