Pro Football Focus: Redskins have the 21st ranked roster in the NFL

21. Washington Redskins

Top five players: OT Trent Williams, CB Josh Norman, TE Jordan Reed, DE Chris Baker, OLB Ryan Kerrigan

Starters who should be upgraded: OC Kory Lichtensteiger, LB Perry Riley, LB Mason Foster

Washington landed one of the coups of the offseason when Norman unexpectedly became available in April. He adds a legitimate elite-level coverage player to a secondary that has shown ability, particular in the development of Bashaud Breeland. The Redskins' front seven has several good players, and overall this defense could be an impressive unit in 2016.

On offense, Kirk Cousins cemented himself as the starter at quarterback, and there is enough talent for this team to be very good. Rookie wideout Josh Doctson has the ability to become an elite target, but he'll need time. The only major issue is in the middle of the offensive line, where Lichtensteiger was poor and banged up in 2015, causing major problems to the offense as a whole. The Redskins could move up this list rapidly if he can find his best form again, or if they can find an upgrade.

#1 is New England and #32 is the 49ers.

Perry Riley isn't a starter. The starting inside LBs are Mason Foster and Will Compton.

Guess they forgot to check that

I didn't read it. PFF sucks. Their methodology sucks, which means their grades suck, which means their rankings suck.

Isn't this the article that is rating the team's based on the last two years instead of just this upcoming season?

Who was the dude that used to throw PFF up all the time and we'd systematically pull it apart and make him look an ass each time he did?

Hail.

Darrellgreenie.  Rest In Peace.

Oh, and "The Kyle" too

I used to get TheKyle and Cooleyfan93 mixed up all the time until one got banned and left CF93 as the last toddler standing.

This was a visual representation of a conversation with "The Kyle"

Curious to see how they think the Pats have the most talented roster.  We'll learn a lot when Brady is suspended for the first quarter of the season.  I think Belichik is the class coach of the league, but they are "getting by" at a lot more positions than we are.

They also loved the Browns draft and the Jags draft.  So they don't take a lot of things into account.  Like, coming off an injury or drafting 18 WRs.  It's specifically how the drafted player graded out in their system.

If you read the entire thing on Hogs Heaven, you will see the silliest part of this. They have the eagles ranked as the 5th best roster in the NFL! Absolute joke! dallast is 12th!

Reading pff is like going to Sam's club, you need to do the math to make sure it's really a good deal or not!

Stat line:

24 completions - 35 attempts = 68.6 %

333 yards

5 touchdowns

0 interceptions

138.5 QBR

Aaron Rodgers stat line vs. the Chiefs last year.

Yet PFF somehow gives Rodgers a negative grade for that performance?  How is that even possible?

Thus, nothing to see here with their stupid calculations and football "analysis".

How does it make sense to rate a team based upon the last two years instead of projecting the upcoming season?  Weren't the Niners a Super Bowl contender two years ago?  Even going with the past two seasons, it is hard to visualize the Eagles' roster as No. 5 in talent--5th from the bottom would be more like it.

Having said that, I would rather the Skins continue to fly under the radar.  It is always more advantageous to be under-rated than over-rated, because you will always catch some teams overlooking you if you are under-rated.  Besides, with the back-breaking 1st place schedule the Skins have for 2016, they would be hard-pressed to top last year win-loss record even with an improved roster.  2017, after another Scot McCloughan draft, may be the season the Skins will be a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Cousins didn't even make the top 5 among the most important Redskins players?  Really?  Why limit the list to 5?  Cousin is certainly among the most important Redskins players.  Not only does he play the most critical position, he has brought competence and stability to it.

Slightly off topic, but with regards to the NFL's Top 100 List...Trent Williams is ranked #45 and that has me thinking, is Kerrigan going to be ranked this year? I mean it wouldn't surprise me to see him ranked somewhere in the next 10, but higher than that would be a real accomplishment and honor. That, and would you rank him higher than Williams? On the other hand, if he is not ranked at all, that would be a slap in the face.
