While yes, there would be cap savings, that does not mean the dead cap goes away...

I just posted the full article in the "Welcome New Owner Josh Harris" thread.

>>Montez Sweat trade says more about Josh Harris' vision than it does Ron Rivera's

https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/montez-sweat-trade-says-more-about-josh-harris-vision-than-it-does-ron-riveras/3457894/

>>...What does seem clear is that Harris is now acting on his instinct of building a championship team as he promised at his introductory press conference when he bought the team. Trading away Sweat may sting a bit, he's been a good player and largely durable, but he also only had nine games remaining on his contract.

Even with Sweat, the Commanders have the 31st-ranked defense in points allowed through eight games. There are only 32 teams, so his departure can't make that much of a difference in the remaining nine contests.

But that's the point - this isn't about the remaining nine games. This is about the future. A future with Harris at the helm, not Snyder, and a future that may finally be looking bright.<<

Lol no. People are saying trade all these players!! And have no idea what the cap ramifications are on them. Yes we have 93 million in cap next year, but if we trade a bunch of players that cap numbers is going to be a lot lower than 93 million.  C'mon people, use your heads.

Chase, Fuller, Samuel, and Brissett if traded would create 20 million in dead cap.. again no thanks.

Here's Chase:

Fuller: image.thumb.png.252c5ea73d0ed6545587cf0e462b3185.png

Samuel (whose void year makes the dead cap baked in trade or not):

And Brissett:

And for completeness' sake, here's Gibson:

Now that you've had a chance to take all that in, kindly do the needful:

Incorrect. Post june 1st, they wouldn't have as high of an impact in dead cap.

Samuel has two void contract years next year and the year after.   Is there a way around that?  I thought they are stuck with that.

Brissett has nothing on the books for 2024.  So all it means for him unless am missing something is you have to pay him for this season, which you got to do anyway.

Unless am missing something ditto Chase.   Yes you have to pay his salary if you trade him.  that's how it typically works.  But I don't see anything bleeding into 2024.

Cardinals traded Josh Dobbs to the Vikings. So they won't have interest in Brissett.

BTW, I don't know if anyone caught Scheffer last night at halftime, but he was asked about some trade scenarios and it seemed like he was completely out of the loop, as  per things that were being rumored. For example, he totally scoffed at the idea of Minnesota being interested in QBs, while there was buzz about them and both Dobbs and Winston. Which is wrong obviously because of what was talked about as well as what ultimately happened, but was also weird because he seemed to think Jaren Hall and Nic Mullens were such compelling reasons to not consider acquiring somebody.

It was just weird coming from someone who was always considered the ultimate insider.

I definitely don’t mind holding onto Brissett for the rest of the year if that is the going rate.

I'd take a 6th for him if that's all we can get.  When is the last time we had a loaded draft from the jump?  I don't mean after trading down on draft day but before draft day even starts?

Last time that I can recall was the first draft Dan inherited from Casserly.

Lets Eagles style load up on picks.  Heck even late rounders.  Brissett probably isn't back next season.

Garafolo just now saying they are fielding calls for Chase but they haven't gotten what they want yet as to the offers.

I don't see Chase resigning after the declined his 5th year option among other things.

That means if you don't trade him, you tag him for a year

If he is disgruntled, what can be expected from him, I mean he already doesn't play till the whistle a lot.

I still think they screwed up not extending Sweat before the season began. (Yes I think they did well with the trade but that isn't the point)

I'd probably take a 6, but I can understand not doing that. A 5 would be hard to turn down for me.

I would really like a 4th.  They're bringing him in expecting him to start for several games
