The Everything 118th Congress Thread

Did a R vote for Jeffries?  He had 212 yesterday and 213 today. Unless the C-SPAN count was slightly off.

So embarrassing for Jordan. At least Scalise didn’t waste everyone’s time.

EDIT: Nope, the tally was wrong. He was able to flip at least one, but lost a net of two.

Remember - republicans don’t have to vote for jefferies. If they simply vote present, the threshold lowers…

Jordan got 200 yesterday and 199 today. I was thinking that once Jeffries gets 201, the rest of the Dems should vote present save one who could come back at the end and either vote 202 for Jeffries or present.

Note to Gym Jordan and Matt Gaetz:  You may be able to take out the king. But you better watch out for the king's men.

This is when McCarthy should be offering concessions to the Dems.

I still think half the GOP reps are even clueless as to what is going on.  Oh... and most of them can now be tied to supporting Jim Jordan in the general.

What's the difference between voting present vs just not being on the floor to vote?  I know the effects are different.

I think the only difference is you are recorded as being there and voting?

I think that’s the point of voting present. To record you were there, you just didn’t care to vote for the options available.

Why would you do this and not just vote for Jeffries being on the Dem party is United?  What advantage does this give you?

They need it reduced by 5. So they need 10 present votes without losing a D vote. Which is less than half the others vote.

When you vote present, the number of votes needed is reduced. You need 217 when everybody votes. When multiple people vote present that 217 number is reduced.

The math doesn’t work. They’d have to lose 2 jefferies votes to lower the threshold by 1. If they lost the 10 required to still have 202 votes, the threshold hold would be 207. Jefferies still wouldn’t win. It’s not hard to see how losing 2 votes to lower it 1 never ends in the democrats favor.

there’s no mathematical strategy the dems can use to win. They need republicans to vote for dems or vote present. End of story.

If you missed it - one of the Others votes was for John Beohner 😂 😂

Theoretically, enough GOP reps could vote present or not show up and all Dems vote for Jefferies.  He'd get 212 and win.

Yesterday someone voted for Thomas Massie. She voted for Jordan today. These are serious people.

Yes. You need 10 republicans to not show up or vote present to lower the threshold to 212
