At least 4 shot during attempted robbery at SE Houston gas station, police say

Several people were shot Thursday in southeast Houston, according to police.

Authorities said they got the call just before 8 p.m. that at least four people were shot during an attempted robbery at a Valero gas station near the intersection of the South Loop and Broadway.

Police said four men with guns, wearing masks entered the store and held up customers at gunpoint. Then one of the customers, who also had a gun, opened fire on the robbers, hitting three of the men.

An innocent bystander was also hit by gunfire but police said it is not clear who shot them. No word on their condition.

A fifth person in a getaway car outside the store drove the wounded robbers to a hospital. One of the wounded suspects is said to be in critical condition.

The fourth suspect who was not wounded in the shooting was taken into custody, police said.

Akron man arrested by feds with AR-15 ghost gun says he needed it for protection after conviction in fatal shooting

An Akron man who spent two years in prison for a fatal shooting in 2017 is now accused of illegally possessing guns, including a privately made AR-15 style gun.

Kenneth Lindsey, 34, was charged Friday in federal court in Youngstown with possessing a weapon with a felony record. U.S. District Magistrate Judge Carmen Henderson ordered Lindsey remain in custody until a detention hearing Thursday.

Lindsey told agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that he had the guns out of fear of retaliation from the family of the man he killed in 2017.

Lindsey’s arrest came after federal authorities raided his home on Hillside Terrance in Akron. He told agents he had four loaded guns in the home — two under his bed and two in a bedroom safe, according to court records.

Ridiculous.  Let's do what we did with Obamacare (for the most part).  If you have a gun, you can keep it.  If you want to own a gun you have to jump through so many hoops, etc. and are liable if your gun is used to hurt anyone.  We are going to have hunting zones for the hunters, but urban areas will be gun free. Raise the gun owning age to 25.  Amend the Constitution.

Sorry NRA... piss off. Conservatives are a bunch of nihilistic pricks who don'r care if the country burns... based on that polling.

And thoughts on how you would achieve this?  Or are you just yelling at clouds?

At some point, the country will be nearly completely divided into No Guns vs No Restrictions.  There will be almost no one left in the reasonable regulation crowd because they'll realize enough of the population effectively equate any regulation above the current level as unreasonable (and by then, enough will probably view anything less than a total ban as unacceptable like hard-core anti-abortion crowd).

Once that plateau hits, it takes another stars align moment like ACA.  Once SCOTUS balance shifts back to liberal majority and Dems have 60 votes in the Senate (or 50 votes plus VP willing to kill the filibuster), control of house, and the presidency, they can pass whatever liberal wet dream they have on control.  The prerequisite is the majority of the country throwing up their hands and giving up on reasonable gun regulation because bipartisan gun regulation is a pipe dream.  We are not there yet, but slowly and surely, that's where we are going.

What bearrock said.

Eventually people will wonder "why can't we do what every other country does."   We all know it is "because gun manufacturers spend a lot of money on bribing legislators".  Of course if there was some narrow legislative/democratic edge like that, the gun makers would try to bribe the legislators.

I am not just yelling at the clouds.  One day people like me will be a majority in this country.  People who are empathetic to a kindergarten class getting slaughtered.

Didn't happen after Sandy Hook. The reason why you think it will happen, tomorrow?

This is the kind of attitude that has caused nothing to happen.

I don't think he even said it would happen tomorrow.  It will (hopefully) eventually happen when the younger generation right now is old enough to be in power, which is a long ways away.  The old white gun nutters in power right now are not going to change anything.  They benefit too much off of it and would rather see kids die and make money than see kids live and not make as much money.

Also, I have never seen ANYONE who is for a gun ban claim that it will get rid of every single gun out there and that none of these shootings will happen, yet that is always an opposing argument to a gun ban.

(not saying you claimed that either)

I think it's more in the line of apathy towards trying to find a reasonable solution.  The burn for total ban is not that strong right now because there is little that appears likely to tip all the right scales in the near future (like remaking SCOTUS for example). Decade plus of sustained gun violence and kids growing up in active shooter drills since preschool.  By the time enough of these people make up the electorate, I don't think it's that farfetched for moderates plus liberals to shrug and say "Yeah, of course we should ban guns.  What reason is there to keep it?"  Counter arguments of self protection or law abiding hobbyist is more likely to draw a bewildered blank stare than a passioned response.
