According to the NCIC, the FBI's crime database, for the most recent year (note, this was like 30 years ago):  

 

Out of all the people in the US who got shot, 92% of them survived. 

 

Out of all the people in the US who got stabbed, 85% of them survived.

Biden administration closing 'gun show loophole'

 

The Biden administration on Thursday announced they are closing what is often known as the "gun show loophole," by tightening up the definition of what it means to be "engaged in the business" of selling firearms.

 

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has just implemented a change in the federal register language, which was previously more specific to who was selling guns, and the agency did it in accordance with the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which was passed in 2022.

 

The administration rolled out the proposed rule in September 2023, taking in over 300,000 comments from the public.

 

Prior to the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, those "engaged in the business" of firearms dealer were required to register to become a federally licensed firearm dealer, according to the language previously used. The definition that ATF is implementing on Thursday is more specific to better regulate the market in accordance with the new federal law, according to the White House.

 

The rule now explicitly lists the types of commercial activities that indicate whether a person should become a federally licensed dealer and thus be required to run a background check; prevents people from evading the licensing and background check requirements by claiming that they are just selling a few guns, according to the White House; and prevents people from falsely claiming that guns are part of a personal collection and exempt a seller from running a background check on a buyer.

 

By being more specific and precise in the definition, Administration officials on a call with reporters said it would require more people to register for a federal selling license and run a background check on the person they are selling to.

 

President Joe Biden said in a statement he has spent time with people who lost loved ones to gun violence, and that he is taking action to make sure fewer guns are sold without background checks.

 

"This is going to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and felons. And my Administration is going to continue to do everything we possibly can to save lives," he said. "Congress needs to finish the job and pass universal background checks legislation now.”

 

The final rule was signed off by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

5 shot, including 2 kids, during senior skip day water gun fight in Greenbelt

 

Police in Prince George's County are investigating after multiple people were shot in the Greenbelt area near Schrom Hills Recreation Center. Police believe it began as a senior skip day for students across multiple high schools in the area. 

 

Investigators with Greenbelt Police say a group of roughly 600 people had planned the water gun fight in Bowie Friday afternoon. Bowie Police and Prince George's County Police dispersed the group, who made its way to Schrom Hills Park in Greenbelt. 

 

During a press conference Greenbelt Chief Police, Richard Bowers, said that Park Police patrolled the area at 1:30 p.m. and reported no one was in the park. About an hour later, Greenbelt Police was notified of the large crowd at the park.

 

Greenbelt Police, Maryland State Police, and Prince George's County Police all responded to monitor the situation and keep an eye on the group. According to officials there were between 20-30 officers present to monitor this large group. 

 

Police say, within 15 minutes of officers being present 8-10 shots rang off. Five boys were injured in the shooting ranging from ages 16-to-18-years-old. One of the victims is currently in critical condition. The remaining four are stable according to hospital employees.

 

Police are still searching for the shooter, they believe the suspect slipped away while everyone was panicked and running out of the park. Officers do not think they are looking for multiple shooters.

Supreme Court will take up 'ghost guns' case next term

 

The Supreme Court said Monday it would take up the issue of "ghost guns" next term and the Biden administration's appeal seeking to regulate the self-assemble weapons kits as any other firearm.

 

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down a 2022 regulation from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that determined the sale of weapons kits requires a background check and serialization of the parts for law enforcement tracking.

 

President Joe Biden had announced the new regulations in a White House event from the Rose Garden in April 2022.

18-year-old pizza delivery driver shot at 7 times after driveway mix-up

 

An 18-year-old pizza delivery driver in Tennessee was shot at multiple times while on the job after he accidentally parked in the wrong driveway.

 

Caiden Wheeler, an 18-year-old high school student, is still processing what happened to him Monday night in Ashland City. The Domino’s employee was on his first and only delivery of the night when he was shot at seven times after parking in the wrong driveway.

 

“Nothing close to what I thought would happen on a delivery, I’ll say that,” Wheeler said. “‘Cause I was literally about to get killed right there, so it’s attempted murder in my opinion.”

 

On the quiet, residential North Poole Street, most of the houses are only a few feet from each other. Wheeler accidentally parked at 114B instead of 118, which is next door. He dropped the pizza off at the correct house and got back in his truck.

 

Police say that’s when 32-year-old Ryan Bab**** used a handgun to shoot the driver-side below the gas tank, the wheel on the driver-side and right above the driver-side window. Police recovered seven shell casings at the scene.

 

“I understand keeping your firearm, trying to protect your family, but I don’t think you should automatically just shoot at somebody because they pulled in. I don’t think that’s right,” Wheeler said.

 

The suspect told police he thought someone was breaking into his car, so he went outside and started shooting. Wheeler’s car wasn’t marked, but he was in a Domino’s uniform and had a pizza delivery bag.
