They don't have to block arteries. That's just an acute way to get attention. All they have to do is decide to quit driving/delivering goods. Country will be ****ed.

Except that more than 90 percent of truckers are vaccinated, are driving and delivering goods, are not participating in this stunt, and are pissed at the minority of yahoos for giving them a bad name.

From what I've read about the Canadian convoy the issue is removing the trucks. Once the air breaks are activated you need a specific too/skill set to free them, then you need a specialized truck to tow. Along with that, a lot of the truckers brought their families including kids.

I think, the US has a greater capability to remove the trucks and impound them if needed.

I wonder if they could get the auto workers that aren’t able work up there to start breaking down those trucks…

They have Karen's in Canada, too.

Just observing,

We have to beware the thoughts of the government hunting people down and threatening them, (which is what you're doing, when you send cops to people's homes. "We know where you live" is the message being sent.), for participating in protests.

Yeah, when the "protest" consists of storming the Capitol building, smashing windows and beating cops to death, that's certainly over the line.

But when the complaint with the protesters is that they're obstructing traffic?  Isn't that why people wanted the BLM protests shut down?

I don't understand the geniuses who think that public forums aren't being monitored by law enforcement.

I have a problem with it, depending on how it's used.

To pick two examples, both of which have been in the news recently, there's a difference between:

1)  Monitoring the social media accounts of people who posted photos of themselves invading the US Capitol

2)  Cops performing repeated traffic stops to advise citizens that the chief doesn't like what you said about him online.

There is a simple solution to not have the police monitor your social media activity.
Don't use it.
it is a public forum, no more private than yelling on a street corner.
There is no expected right to privacy, and you are required to acknowledge that fact when you join. There is no encryption of the messages required, they are literally there for the entire world to see. If those activities, posts, groups, etc cause police to come to your house, then look in the mirror for blame.

There’s a difference between suspecting law enforcement monitors the internet…. and having evidence of it.

**** just got real for her…. and by her posting the video… the message is being disseminated.

Win-win.

Canada truckers protest: After a police raid, what next?

A police raid on the bridge blockade at Windsor, Ontario, failed to shut it down. With protesters in Ottawa also digging in, what will it take to get them to budge?

They arrived by the bus load - police in balaclavas and carrying long guns, ready to oust dozens of protesters blocking roads leading to the Ambassador Bridge.

There were pickups and SUVs festooned with Canadian flags, anti-vaccination slogans and anti-Trudeau epithets, as well as some heavy commercial trucks.

About 100 vehicles have been parked along the roughly 2km (1.25 miles) of road leading up to the bridge for almost a week.

The Freedom Convoy, as it's been called, began as a protest against a mandate requiring truckers who cross the US-Canada border to be vaccinated against Covid.

But the group is not united by any one occupation - rather, they share a distrust of vaccines, a concern for government overreach and a general dislike of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

More than 12 hours after a court issued an injunction ordering the Windsor site to be cleared, the police moved in on Saturday morning. A number of vehicles agreed to leave immediately, although not without a loud honk or a shout of disapproval.

More were ticketed and towed in the evening. But vehicles are no longer the problem, says Jason Bellaire, deputy chief of operations for the Windsor Police Service.

The problem is the people, he says.

"We need to make it exceeding clear they're not welcome to stay here, they're not welcome to disrupt our bridge traffic, they're not welcome to disrupt our community," he told the BBC.

WATCH: GOP Rep. Would ‘Absolutely Welcome’ Trucker Protest Like Border-Blockading Freedom Convoy to D.C.

Texas Republican Rep. Lance Gooden said on Fox News that he would “absolutely welcome” a protest in Washington, D.C. that is “similar” to the ongoing, trucker-led anti-mandate protests in Canada and at our northern border, which have shut down the primary trade route across the Ambassador Bridge.

During his appearance on Fox News Live, Gooden talked about inflation in the United States and the impact it is having on American workers, saying that President Joe Biden‘s big price tag “Build Back Better” agenda isn’t a solution and that the administration needs to “reign in spending and get the prices down” for the average consumer.

Anchor Anita Vogel transitioned to the topic of the “Freedom Convoy” protest by relating them to the issues of the supply chain and inflation.

“I want to move to another topic and talk about what’s happening in Canada with the Freedom Convoy,” said Vogel. “I think a lot of people certainly appreciate their message, but they are blocking key bridges, only adding now to the supply chain issues which affect inflation, which we were talking about.”

“So I want to ask you, Congressman, would you invite that kind of protest by U.S. truckers or any other group to the U.S. Capitol considering the ramifications we’re seeing up in Ottawa that are affecting the U.S.?” she asked.

“I would invite any group, for whatever reason, to peacefully protest anytime,” Gooden began. “I don’t appreciate or condone violent protests like the Black Lives Matter movement that you saw.”

“You know, this seems to be such a crisis that these peaceful truckers are stalling progress and protesting, but there was no outrage on the left when Black Lives Matter protests were destroying our streets and our cities across our nation,” he said.

“So, I would absolutely welcome a similar pronouncement of protest in our nation’s capitol by truckers and anyone who wants their freedoms back,” he said, specifically answering the question. “People are fed up with these overbearing, overburdening regulations that are not based in science.”

We know we have no reasonable expectation of privacy when in public. Social media isn't private, isn't meant to be private, requires you to acknowledge it isn't private to even create an account to use it, and requires no amazing sleuthing technology to monitor by anyone, including insurance companies, credit bureaus, your boss, your spouse.. anyone with a computer and an internet connection.

This isn't some slippery slope. Now, if they start turning on your camera or microphone and spying into your house,, then we have a problem.
But monitoring social media is to be expected by any reasonable citizen.

Government considering emergency powers with 'appropriate caution,' federal minister says

The federal government has discussed invoking special emergency powers to deal with ongoing protests in Ottawa, Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair says, calling a lack of enforcement in the nation's capital "inexplicable."

The government's Incident Response Group and cabinet have had "daily" discussions about potential use of the Emergencies Act, Blair said in an interview on Sunday on Rosemary Barton Live.

A cabinet meeting was added to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's itinerary late Sunday, and CBC News has learned that a meeting with the prime minister and premiers has been called for Monday morning.

Blair described the attitude around use of the law, which has never been implemented before, as "appropriate caution" rather than "reticence."

The law empowers Ottawa to do just about anything it thinks is necessary to cope with a crisis. The legislation, which replaced the War Measures Act, defines a national emergency as a temporary "urgent and critical situation" that "seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it."

While Blair emphasized it was important to make sure that "the appropriate authorities that are with the provinces are fully utilized," he said the federal government was "prepared to do everything necessary."

French police tear gas 'Freedom Convoy' protesters in Paris

French police fired tear gas and arrested dozens of protesters in Paris opposing COVID-19 restrictions who were inspired by the "Freedom Convoy" trucker protest in Canada.

Protesters had managed to block the Place de l'Etoile around the Arc de Triomphe as riot police tried to clear them by repeatedly firing tear gas, France24 reported.

French police said in a statement that they made 44 arrests around 5:30 p.m. Saturday and fined hundreds of others during the protest.

Posts made to social media showed police impounding vehicles during the protests, and officials said in a statement that they had intercepted a convoy of 300 vehicles on the A4 highway, which leads into Paris.
