Wild that 20K people might be going to a practice. That’s probably more than some of the home crowds during the end if Jay’s tenure.

Yeah, it will be interesting if everyone shows up. You could grab up to 6 tickets and 6 parking passes. The new dance squad and some new game day stuff is supposed to debut. They are allowing people to tailgate. Lots open at 330, gate 530, practice at 7

This is one place where you can really see the "culture change" taking place.  Guys staying after to get better hasn't happened around here since Gibbs II.

And I'll never forget the beat reporters commenting with the Pats came in to do a shared training camp practice with the 'Skins, they all said the Pats just did things "differently" than the 'Skins.  And it showed.  Ran sprints after practice, etc.

I'm so glad we have a professional coach in the building after what we had to suffer through for the preceding 6 years.  It takes more to be a HC than being able to scheme up a pass play.

I feel this way when I read about our beast ass Defensive linemen telling our young Olinemen how to beat them between reps. Makes me miss being on teams like that. Where I can compete with you and root for you all at the same time. Its a different kind of comradery and it really takes more than management or leadership to pull off. Its impressive!

Not sure some people realize just how slanted the passing drills are against DBs. They have to give receivers free run off the LOS. There is no rush allowing the play to completely develop every time. The DBs cannot be overly aggressive as you do not want to hurt your own teammate. And for Jackson, he is up against one of the better WRs in the league right now.

I would not worry about Jackson until we play other teams and it counts. Then if he is on the wrong end too much there is reason to be concerned. But getting beat in TC even in 11 on 11 is not unusual at all. It's all very much slanted for the WRs and the Off to be successful.

What would concern me is if he was having a field day out there. With all the benefits to the Off, if he was killing it then all the concerns about the off being **** would be more likely.

There’s going to be a laser lights show too following practice, and the entertainment team is going to be on the field for a bit as well. Should be fun!

I hate going to games, prefer watching on tv but a practice, yea that would be fun to watch in person IMO.

Trent would've stayed if the grass was a hybrid!

"This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff."

The word is "sinsemilla".  "Semilla" = seed; "sin" = without.  Combine them and you have "without seed".  "Sinse" is a relic from pre-legalization days.  Unless you know someone who's growing his own stuff, there's no sinse in the sense that none of it has seeds anymore; the term is redundant.  The bejeezus-belt is right though.  Hoo boy, the stuff these days....

  • Kam Curl missed this session with an illness, but Rivera clarified that it was "nothing serious." Kyle Allen, again, missed as well, so he still hasn't participated here. Charles Leno Jr. was out to tend to a family matter, meaning Cornelius Lucas slid in at starting left tackle. Sammis Reyes was held out after hurting his right knee on Wednesday.
  • This one's for you, Bruce Allen. Landon Collins donned gold game pants on Thursday, and he was the only player to do so. Somewhere, Washington's former team president will have a twinkle in his eye when he's informed of this item.
  • During red zone action, Ryan Fitzpatrick missed Terry McLaurin on one sequence, as McLaurin ran a sweet in-then-out route to shake free from William Jackson III. Had the QB seen his wideout, it would've been a walk-in touchdown. Fortunately, Fitzpatrick went right back to McLaurin on the next rep, when McLaurin darted in front of Jackson III on a slant and coasted over the goal line. After posting seven touchdowns as a rookie, McLaurin had just four in 2020. Be ready for him to get back in the neighborhood of seven with Fitzpatrick at the helm — at least.
  • If Steven Sims keeps performing the way he is right now, he's going to be hard to let go. Yes, Sims really came up short in 2020 in Rivera's first season, but he's currently riding a streak of strong outings, and the coach explained Wednesday that what happens in camp can change his perception of someone. Early on, Fitzpatrick picked Sims out as he was running up the seam, and Sims was able to grab the throw over Jimmy Moreland and in front of Deshazor Everett. If Rivera truly goes with who's playing the best — instead of adding in other factors like whom he drafted, which is often a part of roster decisions — there's a real chance Sims sticks around for September and beyond (should he maintain the level he's at).
  • As far as Fitzpatrick's backup, Taylor Heinicke, he should be proud of how he ran the offense Thursday. He wasn't quite in that Tampa Taylor zone, but he was much more decisive and accurate than he's been in recent outings. He also broke the pocket for two or three first-down scrambles, reminding defenders of his quickness.
  • Special teams boss Nate Kaczor ripped into William Bradley-King for slowly jogging into position during a kick return drill, which was a departure from Kaczor's usual, positive tact. That prompted offensive line coach John Matsko to remind his charges, who were kneeling on the sideline, that they can "learn from other's mistakes." These assistants are always teaching, and nothing gets by them.

self indulgent post by me.  Elijah was my guy in a big way in that draft.  I recall Sheehan said he heard the WFT loved Elijah too but was likely looking at another spot in the first round.  And he said they wanted a WR with Elijah like ability.  My mind then raced to Dyami being a target because like Elijah he can track the deep ball.

Draft Thread hot debate about who was the next best WR, Toney, Elijah, or Bateman.  I had my money on Elijah.  But I don't think I would've drafted him at #19, over the prospects on the board then.

I would be much more worried about the Giants long term if they went Elijah over Toney.  It just continues a stretch of questionable drafting, imo.

I put my personal rankings for almost every spot on the draft thread, here were my top Wrs in order.  Every draft, we all have our guys sp to speak for those who post on that draft thread.   I'd pick Elijah as the one I touted the most among prospects I talked about before the draft and did so before the hype got much crazier.   He is a crisp route runner, great at tracking the deep ball, he's fast, he gets open, his hands are unbelievably reliable.

But yeah like you, I didn't want to do it at 19.  According to Sheehan, the WFT were also high on Elijah but didn't want to do it at 19.   As soon as Sheehan said if not Elijah than someone with his type of skills, I said on the draft thread that would likely be Dyami. I didn't think Dyami was as good as Elijah.  But the one thing that struck me unique about both is they are excellent at tracking the deep ball.

Now I regret never making a list of my own!

I see you also think the Giants decision to draft Toney at #20 was questionable.  Trying to remember, if I had to guess it'd be:

1) Jamarr Chase

2a) Jaylen Waddle

2b) Devonte Smith

4) Elijah Moore

5) Terrace Marshall

6a) Rashod Bateman

6b) Amari Rodgers

8 )Dyami Brown

9) Kadarius Toney

10) Tylan Wallace

11) Dwayne Eskridge

12) Josh Palmer

13) Nico Collins (he might be just behind Wallace, can't remember)

14) Jaleon Darden

15) Rondale Moore (never saw the film with him healthy)

Yeah i was ok with Toney in the late 2nd but not the first round.  That assumed his potential character issues checked out.  I am reading that Darden is having a big camp at Tampa.  I liked him more than most did.  I recall ditto @stevemcqueen1 liked Darden and we both liked Devonta a lot before it was cool (back in 2019).

I've heard good things too about the camp performances of D. Smith (pre-injury), Elijah, and Waddle.  I haven't really paid attention to the rest of them as for camp.

I said multiple times both Toney and Rondale concern me as for injuries.  both got injured in college and they play in a manner that make them vulnerable to it.

Yeah I recall you were big on Dyami and Rodgers.  I liked both too but I didn't really hype them the same way as you did.  You were also early on both guys.   i was early on Elijah.

Washington Football Team

Dyami Brown will be Washington's most productive rookie.

The third-round receiver has received plenty of chances with Curtis Samuel nursing a groin injury as well as being on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Brown has looked good early in training camp and should draw favorable matchups once he's paired with Samuel and Terry McLaurin in three-receiver sets (or even Adam Humphries, who will be a good target for Ryan Fitzpatrick out of the slot). Brown does well on slants because his speed causes backs to play a bit off and he doesn't mind going over the middle. Mostly, though, it will be hard to focus a lot on him with heavier attention paid elsewhere. His 4.4 40-yard dash speed will make a difference. -- John Keim

To me this sounds like they expect to make that trade for Watson

I would definitely expect the team whose fans boo Santa and randomly throw batteries onto the field, to also be the team that signs a sexual deviant that's assaulted 23 people.

Keim must think really highly of Dyami Brown.  Rookies looking to get considerable time are Cosmi (growing pains, so ok), Davis (production sounds like it'll be there), Juice (is he the favorite in Nickel on non-running downs?)

My money for rookie playing time is on the long snapper...whatsis name  lol

Two weeks into training camp, Holcomb has been a highlight at a position that was revamped in the offseason, with the addition of first-round pick Jamin Davis. In Richmond, during Washington’s opening week of non-padded camp practices, the two were regulars with the first- and sometimes even the second-team defense during 11-on-11s. Davis would typically play the “Mike,” or middle linebacker, and Holcomb has been stationed outside — at the “Sam” (strongside linebacker) or “Will” (weakside).

On the last day of camp in Richmond, Holcomb leapt for a one-handed — and glove-less — interception in coverage that incited a roar from the rest of the defense and thousands of fans in attendance. On Thursday, he had a pass breakup in coverage that again won the praises of his teammates.

"I think he's had an excellent camp,” Coach Ron Rivera said last week. “He really has done a nice job. You see his retention from last year has been excellent.”

...In the offseason, Holcomb worked with Pete Bommarito, a trainer to many professional athletes, and Nathan O’Neal, a defensive line and linebacker specialist, to recover from the 2020 season and then refine his play for 2021.

Holcomb’s goals were specific, said Bommarito, who praised the linebacker for the meticulousness in his training.

“He wants speed, but not just straight-line speed,” Bommarito said. “Obviously he's fast and he's athletic. But he wants to be fast and athletic on his drops, on his lateral motion, on his rush, on his arc motions with his pass rush.

“So what I do is I just work on getting him fast, and I’m talking about fast 360 degrees around his body. The position coach uses that bending and that speed and that power and applies it to the technique of his rush and his drops.”
