Judge denies Stewart Rhodes’ request to delay Oath Keepers trial on Jan. 6 charges

 

A federal judge on Wednesday refused to delay the jury trial of Stewart Rhodes and four other members of the Oath Keepers charged with seditious conspiracy in connection with the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

 

Rhodes, the founder of the right-wing Oath Keepers group, had filed a motion to replace his lawyer and delay his Sept. 27 trial with co-defendants Kelly Meggs, Kenneth Harrelson, Jessica Watkins and Thomas Caldwell. Rhodes wanted to replace James Lee Bright and Phillip Linder with Edward Tarpley, who claimed that Bright and Linder were not prepared for the trial, which is expected to last six weeks.

 

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta, who will oversee the trial, said Wednesday that granting Rhodes' request would create "havoc" and that a delay would push the trial back to at least next summer given how many cases are on the docket, including trials for other members of the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys in connection with the riots on Jan. 6, 2021, and hundreds more Capitol attack cases.

 

“Jan. 6 has committed a massive traffic jam of cases, and that is just the reality of it,” Mehta said.

And now here we are, with a "special master" that we all know is absolutely a plant, going over crimes that would have had any other person in this country arrested simply for SUSPICION of doing what he's done.

There is no justice if we're afraid to dispense it. And he WILL get off. 
Any doubt? Anyone have any optimism that he will ever see the inside of a cell, or even a single "guilty" verdict?
He won't. We watched him stack the deck, we watched him mark the ****ing cards, and we're going to sit here and pretend to play a fair game of poker with him.

I'm not sure why so many are freaking out at this Special Master.  How will that stop the investigation?  It appears it will only delay things a bit and in the process not give the Trump supporters something to cry about had she ruled differently.  Am I missing something about this SM and what this person would do to the investigation?

Supposed to be working, so someone else will have to elaborate. The judge's ruling was off the wall unprecedented, she's also an unqualified,Trump stooge. She also won't allow the government to even investigate Trump while he is potentially selling US secrets and committing treason. They should both be put in front of a firing squad.

This isn't something that you would want delayed, we still don't know what Trump has or his intent. The judge filed two more rulings, I believe. She has no intention of making this a fair trial.

Impeached... which stopped nothing. As i said earlier, the first time they brought two articles up when they could have brought in 100.
They have continued to expect fair play, they try to shame the shameless.

 

There is only one side capable of doing anything about them right now, and they have failed. The very fact that Herschel friggin' WALKER is leading in Georgia says the Democrats have failed utterly to penetrate the problem.
They have fought with kid gloves. And as a result, we will pay for it. 
They are the Uvalde cops. Pissing their pants while horror unfolds in front of them.

It's nice they are getting to the Jan. 6 hearings. In a few months the very real potential it all gets shut down and put away is very real. Right now their opponents are planning on this being the final 'fair' election in the history of this country.

He's still free despite overwhelming evidence of his attempted coup, and despite the since-revealed theft of highly classified documents.

When has anyone ever heard of the FBI raiding someplace to find illegal activity, finding it, and making NO arrests? Especially given WHAT was found. 
It's insanity. It's negligent, and it will cost us more and more and more every single day that it's allowed to continue. There is no way in hell anyone can show me that what they found is not just cause for an arrest.

 

So enough with what the Dems have done. None of it "did" anything. We need leadership, we need people who will take the fight to them, not sit back and absorb it until they barely have any breath left. This is not a political fight. it's a fight against fascism and authoritarianism and a clear shift away from the core values of this country.

U.S. Reveals More Classified Records May Be Missing in Trump Probe

 

Former U.S. President Donald Trump's team may not have returned all the classified records removed from the White House at the end of his presidency even after an FBI search of his home, U.S. prosecutors warned on Thursday, calling it a potential national security risk that needs investigation.

 

That revelation came in a Justice Department court filing asking U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon to let it continue reviewing about 100 classified records seized by the FBI at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate while it investigates whether classified documents were illegally removed from the White House and improperly stored there.

 

The Justice Department on Thursday suggested there could be more classified records that were removed from the Trump White House that investigators have not yet located. This revelation comes about a week after the Justice Department released a detailed list of property seized from Trump's home which showed the FBI located 48 empty folders labeled as classified and another 42 which indicated they should be returned to a staff secretary or military aide.

 

Legal experts were perplexed as to why the folders were empty, and it was not clear whether records were missing.

 

 

"Without a stay, the government and the public will also suffer irreparable harm from the undue delay to the criminal investigation," prosecutors wrote.

 

 

"The injunction against using classified records in the criminal investigation could impede efforts to identify the existence of any additional classified records that are not being properly stored - which itself presents the potential for ongoing risk to national security," they added.

Maybe. But like he does with the courts. He tries to bury opponents with charges and motions and other **** where a lot will get dismissed, but prove very costly and time consuming if they don't just drop it and settle. Imagine his with his skeleton team with way too many below average lawyers getting having to deal with sorting through all of that stuff.

I don't think he's stupid. I think he just doesn't give a **** about laws, regulations, processes etc. He wants it for his own purposes whatever is permitted or not. It's how he's lived his entire life. That's why we had a soft porn model as first lady.

It wouldn't make any difference in the minds of his mob, but honestly, the 25th Amendment should have been in play, it as every bit justified, but they were afraid to use it.

They should have raised the roof the second he let the Russian into the oval office with no escort other than himself and their camera crew. 
Frankly, i think they're afraid of the mob, no matter how much they pretend otherwise. There are methods to deal with this. They never bothered except to ineffectually impeach him. I know it sounds like a big deal, but none of it was. It was toothless.
That whole thing cost Alexander Vindman mor than it cost Trump.

In any normal situation - of course. This is not a normal situation. Any situation involving a raid on a former president is not normal. And trump being trump and the country being in its current state just compounds that.

 

this is truly an extraordinary time. Between the coup thing and the documents thing alone, and anyone being objective understands there’s a hell of a lot more over those 4 years worth considering… it’s extraordinary. 
 

So yeah, actually, that raid happening, them finding what they supposedly found (which we still don’t really know what it was), and an arrest not happening yet seems pretty spot on with how I would expect this to go. 
 

Im not one to, really ever, defend democrats. On much of anything. 
 

But I think you’re mistaking performing a highwire act, with being incompetent and cowardly to the point of inaction or action for show only.

I do get that they have to walk a razor's edge, arresting him will definitely have consequence. 
Not arresting him will have consequence. Neither is going to be good. But  for the sake of the rule of law upon which our Republic is supposedly governed, I just don't see how they can ignore it time and time again. (and I'm talking DOJ,, congress could have handled him tougher, but now it's about law.)
All of this may prove to be moot and they do arrest him. I'll be happy when that happens. But I ain't holdin' my breath. Frankly, I think it's gone too far. (And I'm aware, I've been more of an alarmist than a lot of folks.. but damn if they don't keep bearing it out.)
