Orange County battalion chief fired after he didn’t issue reprimands over vaccine mandate

Orange County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen Davis was fired on Tuesday after failing to follow a direct order over a COVID-19 vaccine mandate, according to county officials.

County officials said this was due to his refusal to issue a disciplinary action over vaccine verifications on Oct. 5.

Records show on Oct. 4 Davis knew the county was going to begin testing personnel who did not complete vaccination verification.

Davis did not write up employees who did not give their COVID-19 vaccination status.

Records show Davis refused to comply to orders from Chief Kimberly Buffkin to issue reprimands to personnel who did not complete vaccination verification.

In July, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said all county employees would be required to be fully vaccinated by Sept. 30.

402 state transportation workers leaving because of vaccine mandate

More than 400 state transportation workers are leaving their jobs because of Governor Jay Inslee’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, state officials announced Tuesday.

The Washington State Department of Transportation said 402 employees left state service because of the mandate.

The largest loss was within Washington State Ferries, which is losing 132 employees. WSDOT describes 121 of those as separations and eleven as retirements.

Facing a crew shortage even before the mandate, WSF began temporarily reducing scheduled sailings on Saturday, removing a boat from nearly every run.

San Francisco In-N-Out shut down after defying COVID vaccine mandate

Representatives of a In-N-Out are defiant after having their only San Francisco location briefly shut down by the Department for Public Health.

The restaurant was ordered to cease all operations last Thursday after health inspectors found workers repeatedly failed to verify that customers who were eating inside were vaccinated.

They reopened the next day for takeout only.

In-N-Out sent KABC's sister station KGO a statement, saying in part that they "refuse to become the vaccination police for any government."

"We fiercely disagree with any government dictate that forces a private company to discriminate against customers who choose to patronize their business. This is clear governmental overreach and is intrusive, improper, and offensive," the statement continued.

White House rolls out plan to vaccinate kids ages 5 to 11 against Covid

The Biden administration on Wednesday announced its plan to vaccinate children ages 5 to 11 ahead of the FDA’s expected emergency use authorization of the Pfizer vaccine for children in that age range.

The administration has procured enough vaccine for 28 million children in the age group, which would be given by more than 25,000 pediatric and primary care providers, the White House said. The Department of Health and Human Services would also team up with the Children’s Hospital Association to set up at least 100 vaccination clinics to administer the shots.

In addition, tens of thousands of pharmacies would offer the vaccine, and the administration would work to make the shots available at hundreds of schools and community health centers.

The White House told governors this month to expect to begin vaccinations for the 5-to-11 age group early next month. The administration bought 65 million pediatric doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, enough to give shots to the estimated 28 million children in that age range who would be eligible if the Food and Drug Administration authorizes its use.

Fox host calls it “child abuse” to vaccinate children against COVID

WILL CAIN (HOST): The Biden White House is at it again, predicting that we can probably expect the FDA and the CDC to authorize the COVID vaccine for children between the ages of 5 to 11 in the coming days and weeks. In fact, they already bought the doses. They're not waiting for the science. And why would they? Dr. Fauci thinks it's a great idea.

...

I want to speak bluntly on this. This is not just lunacy, this is child abuse.

Tucker Carlson Makes Totally Untrue Statement About Vaccines, Citing 'Science'

Fox News host Tucker Carlson continued to mislead his viewers about COVID-19 on Wednesday, telling them that vaccinated and unvaccinated people spread the coronavirus in the same way.

“The vaccinated spread COVID just like the unvaccinated. There’s no difference actually,” Carlson said during a rant about Seattle public employees who quit or were fired from their jobs for failing to meet the Oct. 18 deadline to be fully vaccinated. “Look at the science.”

Science shows that vaccinated people are much less likely to transmit the coronavirus than unvaccinated people. Vaccinated people are significantly less likely to get COVID-19. And multiple studies have shown that vaccinated people who do become infected tend to transmit much less virus than the unvaccinated, and are likely to be contagious for a shorter period of time.

Still not sure why Fox is so invested in lying to their viewers to the point that it will actually harm them.  Seems like fewer viewers would lower their ratings, but I guess the numbers are small enough that they don't care.

Crime-hit Chicago grapples with police vaccine revolt

A standoff in Chicago, where the head of the city's largest police union is urging officers to defy a vaccine mandate, is the latest battle line being drawn in a nationwide fight over Covid-19 jabs.

Chicago, a city of nearly three million people, has seen more than 1,600 sexual assaults, nearly 3,000 shootings and 649 murders this year - a 14% increase over last.

Just as violent crimes have risen, though, thousands of the city's police force may not show up to work.

Officers are weighing whether to resist a mayoral mandate requiring all public employees to report their vaccine status. City employees must now show proof of vaccination or submit to bi-weekly testing, unless approved for a religious or medical exemption. By the end of this year, all employees must be vaccinated.

Nearly one-third of Chicago's almost 13,000-member police department have so far refused to register their vaccination status, putting them on track for dismissal.

Twenty-one have been officially removed from active duty so far, but some officials have warned that the mandate could leave Chicago's police force dangerously depleted.

During a CNN town hall on Thursday night, President Joe Biden said US emergency responders who defy vaccine mandates should be fired.

So desperate we're resorting to astrology now?  Government money going to astrology.  Genius.  I guess desperate enough to play to the level of intelligence and beliefs of the anti-vaxxers.

What does your star sign say about your covid vaccination status? One Utah county crunched the numbers.

One Utah county hopes coronavirus vaccine doses are in everyone's horoscopes.

Health officials in Salt Lake County, hoping to sway more residents to go get their shots - suggesting the time is right, now that Mercury isn't in retrograde anymore - analyzed a swath of data about their 1.2 million residents and tweeted a breakdown of their vaccination status by astrological sign.

The tweet Tuesday sparked a wave of social media indignation at Scorpios (the least-vaccinated) and seemed to give Leos (the most vaccinated) one more reason to pat themselves on the back. Vaccination coverage varied widely by sign.

The public response to the post has been overwhelmingly positive, said Nicholas Rupp, communications manager at the Salt Lake County health department - and a vaccinated Scorpio.

"Astrological signs are tribal," Rupp told The Washington Post. "They bring out a competitiveness in people because nobody wants their sign to be ranked lowest, even if you don't believe in astrology."

To get these numbers, the county's health department compared the anonymized birth dates of vaccinated residents with data on the national distribution of astrological signs - something Rupp says "we wouldn't normally do if this were an actual scientifically valid study," because national and local sign distribution may differ.

But, he says, the point of the "analysis" was to get people talking about vaccines - even if it's to compete among one another about it.

The best part about these anti-vaccine "moral stances" is that as soon as they leave their job they walk right over to Daily Wire or Prager U or Federalist or any other right-wing media company which pretty much sums up the fact that to them the vaccine is indeed about politics, not science.

I expect the cops, firefighters, and military personnel being terminated over their refusal to get vaccinated to be the bedrock of the wave of very deadly domestic terrorism I expect in the next few years.

The longer our federal and state governments take to address the radicalized far right in earnest, the worse it’ll be.

As @MrSilverMaC said previously, this is going to end with domestic terrorism. The writing is on the wall. I see the crazy ass posts the conservatives post thinking the world is going to end under Biden....you saw what they did on Jan 6th when they thought they needed to 'respond' to a faux injustice. It's coming

Ohio was paying $1,000,000 to like 5 people in were vaccinated in an effort to get people the state's vax percentage higher.

This couldn't have cost more than that lol...

And this: "I get a kick out of seeing all the Leos patting themselves on the back," Rupp said. "They are really proud of being Number 1, and that's awesome."

I'm a Leo...and yes, Leo pride kicked in slightly at being at the top...where we belong lol.

Probably wasn't exactly the best way to phrase it; she's just giving the mouth frothing loons more ammo. I would have said something along the lines of "No, those who refuse to get vaccinated are putting themselves in a separate 'class'. There are plenty of activities you cannot engage in unless you meet certain requirements; driving for example. Individuals have the right to refuse vaccination, but that right carries of refusal certain restrictions which are in place to help manage the spread of a deadly virus during a global health crisis."

Got the Moderna booster on Friday. No major side effects. I mostly felt sluggish all day Saturday. Some arm pain. I also got my flu shot at the same time.

The Moderna booster is only half a dose.
