As long as she presents herself as a Democratic Socialist, it won't happen.  She can't move up in the party if she stays a democratic socialist, not in this country.  She's gets picked apart of this by actual Democratic Socialist organizations, same as Bernie. She could step away from that and jus say she had a change of heart after better understanding the end game.  It's not about being smart, its again asking the question of if she can meet her goals for our country without democratic socialism in full effect. If Europe can do it, so can we.  You be a socialist in the democratix party, its not gonna work. Either change or get out. Not buying she won't have power as popular as she is, and congress isn't only way to get what she wants.  Someone suggested running for mayor in NYC to prove her platform would work before trying to shove it down our throats on a national level. Only NYC would possibly even let her try. Possibly.  Her cap in congress is probably Speaker of the House because of how popular she is. Socialism and Capitalism don't leave a lot of room for compromise because they hate each other so much. Then what specificly policy wise? Has the 7/21 party platform draft been finalized yet?  AOC is setting up for "then what" in a world where GOP is supposed to be getting decimated. She has to get out of that party before they catch on how serious she is.  2 hours ago, Rdskns2000 said: AOC only spoke for a minute. She’s the natural heir to Bernie.  Even if they disagree with her, she should’ve been given a regular speaking slot of at least 5 minutes. Progressives love her and if they are pissed election time; they may just stay home or not mail anything in.  I think there might some misunderstanding of how the DNC works. AOC was chosen to nominate the other eligible candidate..as someone had to officially do it since Bernie received enough votes.  It's a procedural step that happens at all of the DNCs and AOC doing it made the most sense. I thought I must have misunderstood something. It seems like such a dumb move for her otherwise that serves no end.

Llevron
Her tweet above is a good example of why I like her. No venom, no snark. Info and most of all understanding and then a resolution.  I dont have to feel like a dumb ass for being wrong and I get to feel good about changing my mind after. Edited August 19, 2020 by Llevron 6

AOC is a freshman Representative, and the sort of logical successor to Sanders, so asking her to second Sanders was a pretty good gig for her. Like I posted before, a senator seconded Biden with the same time constraint.  I suspect in 2024, she'll have a bigger role. She's already learned a lot how things work in Washington. I lived in Alexandria practically my whole young adulthood and didn't realize how things really work until I interned at a women's rights organization in my early 30s. It's not what's taught in high school.
88Comrade2000
Her putting Bernie into nomination is fine.  Joe has a problem with youth. He should showcase a young rising star. Even though she has served one term, she should've gotten a speaking spot also.  Hell, they gave both Carters a spot, much too long.

Shes a member of DSA, their website is cotton candy on top of no compromise.  If she wants to be the furthest left progressive in her party, she has to let that democratic socialsm thing go, its going to kneecap her, only a matter of time.  Again, how many progressives actually got speech time at this convention? That was my original point, another reason I'll wait for what I want to see on Youtube, and not the only person that feels that way.  https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/08/18/dnc-lineup-young-voters/ 6 minutes ago, Rdskns2000 said: Her putting Bernie into nomination is fine.  Joe has a problem with youth. TradeTheBeal!
If the progressive/populist wing isn’t lamenting every slight real or imagined, you’re doing it wrong.  And AOC is only about 3-4 years from being tied to the mast for maturing as a politician and a person.   Watch it happen. NoCalMike
It's so funny because while AOC is still green and can sometimes step into it at times, I swear all these right-wing nobodies believe the Fox nonsense coverage of her that she is actually a dumb person so they feel all emboldened to go after her with nonsense which she more than gladly counter-punches into oblivion.
