You think every single person at the Eagles or Astros championship parades were die hards? Die hards make up a tiny portion of any fanbase. Bring on the bandwagon fans...I know what every game over the past 35 years has done to me, and I know inside that it's going to feel so much sweeter to me than to many. With the Caps...these past couple weeks has been exciting to me but personally it'll die down pretty quickly. I am happy it happened and even I feel a sense of euphoria given all the second-round exits. But I haven't put blood, sweat, and tears into following this team and I do have some level of jealousy that MY favorite DC team didn't break the curse. I am a bandwagoner, I watched with bemused skepticism until Kuzy scored in OT against the Pens. That was the dam breaking. That was not only the Caps, but the whole city, shaking the monkey off our collective backs, and beating it senseless (Jerky Boys reference). This will mean so, so much more to the die hard who watch every game. It does not diminish my excitement and happiness for them, the Caps, or the city. Back when the Big 3 Miami thing first started, some people would get extra chatty/chesty at games, or any time I wore a shirt, hat, etc out in public. You want those salty tears. You want "How long have you been a ______ fan? Are you even from ______ ?" That means your team has reached a level where few have gone. No one asks me how long I've been a Skins fan. As I said in the Nats thread, now that the Caps won I think this will actually help the Nats performance in the playoffs, particularly in home playoff games where they've sucked. A big weight has been lifted off every team in this city's shoulders and you won't have any negative, angsty fan energy at Nats Park in October. The Skins...well in fairness we have drafted well recently and football is swingy enough that bottom dwellers can make runs and become great, so its possible, but highly unlikely. Just to compare, Leonsis and Snyder both bought the Caps and Skins, respectively, in 1999. Look how differently the franchises are run and the differing success. Wizards have no chance because of the nature of the NBA, unless Durant decides to finish his career at home and win his hometown team a ring, but by then he'll be older and past his prime.
