That’s how politicians are trained to speak.  They all do that and it’s infuriating, but obviously effective.  They wouldn’t all do it, if it didn’t work.

Americans need to come to terms with the fact that we don’t want to spend money on infrastructure.  We, not them.  The US almost lost a major city because the levees were junk, and you’ll notice that no major movement to spend on safety infrastructure followed.  It’s just not a subject that gets the average voter excited.

 

No leader here could win an important seat on the promise of spending more money on bridges and stuff.
