That was on the news this morning

and by news I mean Fox News (I’m visiting people and that’s what they watch)

the argument was that as a business they have a right to freedom of speech

the fact that the consumers have similar rights, like to not do business with someone who drives around with a flag that deeply bothers/offends them, was completely lost on all 5 people working around a couch running a morning talk show

Guess they forgot about the cupcake places who wouldn't make them for gay couples' wedding receptions they were up in arms about.

James Alex Fields Jr., driver in deadly Charlottesville car attack, gets second life sentence

A Virginia judge gave Fields an additional life sentence, plus 419 years, on state charges for killing one and injuring dozens at the 2017 Unite the Right rally.

The driver who plowed his car into a group of counterprotesters at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, killing one and injuring dozens, was given a second life sentence Monday on state charges.

A judge already sentenced Fields to life June 28 after he pleaded guilty to federal charges.

James Alex Fields Jr. was given the additional sentence of life plus 419 years on Monday by Judge Richard Moore after he was convicted by a Virginia jury in December, NBC Washington reported. The sentence was recommended by the jury, but state law allowed the judge to go lower than their recommendation if he saw fit.

The sentence Monday is largely symbolic considering the previous life sentence, NBC Washington reports.

before i get on to posting  what i came here to post :P, i want to note a few things in general

1. overall,  i concur with just about every standard non-nutter criticism thrown at dems, from foes and friends alike---with typcial quibbling over degree and ranking of course. but bottom line, policy wise and behavior wise, the dems do have puh-plenty of hot mess in their house, and yes, there's a lot of serious clinton-excusing bull**** built up over many years that matters (not the extreme/crazed crap). i've said a few times that i dislike not going after the dems enough but it's my conscious call re: prioritization (i speak to my activities in 3D even more than posting here).

after reading here earlier, i was thinking about all those gopers who don't like trump but also just can't stand  the dems, and so rather than being a fully engaged never-trumper, they routinely gripe more about those effed up dems.....to me, that presentation is like someone who is standing in a barrel of fresh feces with it smeared all over them and is complaining about the person next to them who keeps farting....get out of the barrel and clean yourself up for pete's sake and then come back and let's see what we can do about those gaseous libs

i also know there are more than a few, though likely not many, never-trumpers who don't totally hate the dems or think they're all socialists, and who want the gop they thought existed back so bad they'll even stoop to voting for a dem for one cycle to help make sure that trump is amputated not just from the white house but from the party

i have tried a couple times in past years to identity as a dem for two different reasons, but didn't stick even for a day :ols:....and even if it did there are more than a few views i have that aren't very comfy for liberals (or most decent folks)

2. and this is related to politics for me (from recent reading this may stimulate at least one poster) but it's about the thanos snap. when i saw it, i had two issues: one, making half of a population dissolve be of random selection vs chosen targeting is worth a debate, and two, the pragmatic result would obviously be disastrous to any civilized society on any planet---losing half its population randomly and all at once... think of what that would do to all levels of social functioning and structure for generations. so thanos' whole rationale as to his 'why" doesn't even hold water....which shows that thanos, like all gods since they're all made up by men, is likely to act just about as dumb as any man no matter how much power he may have....but as to the snap itself, i am not inherently, automatically, opposed to that type of intervention were it an option in special circumstances. that's all i'm saying. just keep this in mind as i resume my focus on the putrid, rotting, diseased right wing of our political dodo bird.

but this, below, is really what i came to post just now :P

i just watched a panel of 8 white goper-trump women, late 30's to early 50's more or less...and looking right out of central  casting, sorry...seemingly living in that bubbly bizarro world of opposite reality, and focused here on this 4 dems/tweet scenario....all 8 were oblivious to information, or rejecting it even when it's right on tape shown to them, or just completely reversing the actual facts as trump does so often.....goperland  makes anna freud's work on the defense mechanisms of denial and projection come to life, topped off with that other gop signature: a deep, fervent, commitment to maximum hypocrisy 100% of the time ...they see all the 4 dem fems as the real racists and dems as the more racist party by far...and that trump's right, that you should leave the country if you don't like it....then they saw the loop all the trump hating on the country from past years and say that's completely different), and the dems do hate america and trump even dated a black woman and how come those 4 don't have any white friends in congress--becuase they hate whites is why---yup, all that was among the stuff said....

i remember the late 60's early 70's, drugs notwithstanding,  when this "love it or leave it" bs was all the rage with the right wing then too...i busted a few faces over that exact challenge---shouldn't haul your wannabe-pipeliner ass "way up north" to suck up money and split back to cowpattyland and think it's safe to tell a damn alaskan they can "love it or leave it" when you're standing on alaskan soil....but i digress

Might as well give him a million gagillion billion years and it have the same effect as 419.  If you believe someone deserves 5 times the human life expectancy in this country behind bars, you might as well execute them.  They are never going to serve that amount of time in jail.
