Grade A- for the middle paragraph because whatever she was character wise before hooking up with Junior, I'm sure the atmosphere around the Trumps appears to be toxic.

Personally, I hope Melania spirits Barron out of that atmosphere ASAP and hopefully she got her multi-negotiated pre-nup in a trust that Trump can't touch and that it includes money for Barron. That kid shouldn't have to put up with that toxic stew.

In current American politics, I think it's become increasingly questionable and difficult for intelligent, decent, fair minded people running various media platforms to provide a traditional balance of liberal/democrat and conservative/republican (who are now dominantly "maga") voices, with a clean conscience for giving both "air space." 

 

The presumption in the past was that both sides shared a basic definition (and love) of democracy, as well as truth, facts, fairness, justice, and other values.

 

In the past neither side seemed obviously dominated by a large majority of elected officials and base voters dedicated to propagating thoughts and behaviors that would in the past be generally regarded by both sides as repugnant, hateful, immoral, ignorant, unethical, malign, even anti democratic. As well as being permeated with deception, distortion, and outright lies as a staple of their discourse.

 

It is hard to honestly argue that the bulk of the now maga dominated GOP is not steeped in those characteristics.

 

As late as the early 190Os you could still find many places and people all across the nation where arguments were made from newspapers to universities to community meetings that the KKK were not all racist or hateful, but also had many good Christians and good citizens in their movement who were decent charitable people.

 

And that there were many other non members who supported that "movement" and were just "patriots" and "true Americans" who didn't want to beat or lynch black people, but who "just" thought they should either "rightfully" accept a lesser status in our society, or leave the country, or live within "proper restrictions" in their own segregated communities. 

 

These views were given space in service of "fairness" in proper debate.

 

Until, finally, it was recognized as not ok anymore and the KKK could not be regarded as anything other than what it truly was and had been for a long time.  

 

Nambla tried to argue itself into acceptance too. Some spokespeople were given "equal time" in media but it was minimal and died quickly.

 

Btw, German socialism and the nazi party went through that same type of process in its evolution. But with the majority there eventually succumbing to a culture of grievances, otherism, and full on fascism.

 

Is there a point where "good people" believing in giving equal time to maga/trump world are walking that same path as examples above?

 

Too soon and not enough "evidence" to seriously consider the question?

 

Or is invoking Godwin's law the appropriate rebuke to my comments?

 

Fact is, practically speaking, it's hard to imagine how you could censor a huge portion of the population even from just "mainstream" media even if deemed appropriate and needed even not counting the uncontrollable internet.

 

But do you need to be among those who do choose to facilitate or amplify their "voice"?

 

We live in interesting, and dangerous, times.
