I didn't like RDR1 and found it boring as hell.  I am somewhat interested in RDR2 due to just the detail and **** but from what I've read the past day it sounds like as someone mentioned in here that the game is even slower and more boring, so I doubt I'll ever snag it.  I'm not interested in a horse raising simulator.  I'm also not interested in shaving in a video game.  I have doing that **** in real life so I doubt I'd want to do it in a video game.

Maybe if its like $20 on BF or something I'll grab it just to at least mess with the world.  But other than the details they have put into the game, it looks like the typical open world game that would just bore me.  And if the story is REALLY 60 hours as I've heard, not a chance in **** I'd have time to finish that.

On another note, anyone with PSVR, I can't stress it enough, you need to get Astro Bot.  It's like a genre defining game on PSVR.  I'm a bit sad that I only have like 10 more challenge levels left.

I wasn't sure when I started but as you play it, you really learn to appreciate it. I love the fact that its not just non stop action/gunfighting all the time. It makes the times when you DO engage in gunfights more intense and memorable.

Once you accept the slower pace and get used to the base mechanics, the gameplay is very fun. It may seem like its cumbersome but its really not.

RDR2 is one of those games where you really want to set aside big chunks of time to play it though, its not easy to just get up and play for an hour here and there.

You csn only carry one larger animal like a deer on your horse. You can add a couple rabbits to that too.

OMG thank you, I was actually just about to look that up. I wonder what the total animal stow ratio is, like the max capacity. Yesterday I had one deer and one duck on top of that but I was doing the first loan shark mission so ended up stopping.

Maintaining the camp is actually not that hard once you get access to the ledger(after the first loan shark mission). You can spend money to upgrade food/ammo/health facilities. You collect tons of ammo from the gunfight missions so thats easy, and tonics are pretty plentiful when you loot buildings and what not. Food is the only real tough one because you have to go out and hunt, but I actually really enjoy hunting. I haven't tried fishing yet, will have to do that at some point.

Yeah it took me a minute to figure out how to donate the carcass to the camp too. I kept dumping the bodies by Pearson and then they would show up outside of camp. Finally figured out you have to leave it stowed on your horse, hitch your horse in camp and then when you donate to Pearson the carcass will show up

not sure what the total capacity is as far as smaller animals, seems I’ve only had one big one and then a rabbit but i didn’t get a warning about space so I assume a couple more rabbits or ducks or smaller animals can fit on the sides

I waa wondering how you donated the carcass to camp. Thanks. I hunted down that Grizzly bear and had some epic kill like it was the revenant movie. Put the carcass on my horse and some how fell off my horse and didn’t know the carcass fell off. So I lost my epic kill. Leave it to me

I haven’t done any missions yet. I just rode out and hunted and then later went down to Valentine bought some new clothes, got a haircut and then set that city on fire. Died repeatedly but damn did I look fresh doing it

Story theory

Spoiler

Based on the interactions between Arthur and Marston and the supposed bad history between them, I would guess that at some point, Dutch going crazy is going to ask Morgan to kill Marston and ultimately he refuses and is killed. In the same vein as the last game, you finish this game as Marston escaping the group after seeing what happened with Morgan and setting down in New Austin leading up to the original

i'm sure it's been mentioned before but is it possible to play in 1st person?

Yes, with the click of a button you can go between the different camera angles including first person. I prefer 3rd person for everything except gun fights and searching for things like opening drawers etc just because it’s easier to point at what you want to pick up in first person

I also really like the cinematic camera angle which is basically a long range cinematography shot and it is really useful when you are riding on missions back and forth where there is lot of dialogue. You can get some beautiful shots while you listen to the conversations and all you have to do is hold a button down to lee your horse moving along with the rest of the gang or characters with you. Seems to make those long rides back after a mission go quicker while still getting all the character and dialogue context

Fyi, not that it matters (I'm cool with as is), but I think there is enough groundswell excitement for this to start it's own thread. We did do one for the original Red Dead Redemption. Probably will get more convo that way.

.......

@clietas,Reached lvl 42 on my character last night. You were right about the Arch mage robes. Holy ****. Perfect blend of magicka and magicka regeneration. Even better than the CC School specific robes that give you 15- 20% of an extra school's cost, and 100 magicka regeneration. This joint goes 15% for all of if them. That, coupled with my near supreme enchantress ability now  (golden ruby "Medallion of Storms" as I call it, whuch gives extra 22% off of Destruction casting, Moroki Dragon Priest mask that gives extra 100% magicka regen, Ring of Resurgence another 80% regen, and Enchanted Thalmor bracers, extra 43% magicka ), and expert level destruction spells now, I am a god.

I also have the staff of Magnus now, and with the staff of Gauderson, CC staff of Hiroki (which blocks spells and soul traps enemies with a force blast that works well as a half cheat if you're near a cliff and fighting someone powerful) and the chain lightning and ice storm/fireball staffs, I am just wrecking ****. Dragons and mages/vampires are lightwork. Was even able to solo an Elder Dragon.

Oh, and I now have reached 90 Conjuring, and summoned the unbound Dremora, so now I have nearly limitless necromancing ability. Bent it to my will and forced it to give me the sigil stone to power the Daedric forge underneath Winterhold (nice little hidden surprise).

I'm one 2 levels away from 5/5 Enchanting Power and Corpus Enchantus or whatever its called, when your Majicka and health Enchanting powers reach another level as well. When that happens, I'm starting the Dragonborn quest to fight Alduin, then will start Dawnguard, turn Vampire, and then start the Civil War quests.

Adding vampiric powers will probably break the game. It was hard as hell early on, but fighting at Master lvl and getting your ass handed to you repeatedly certainly makes you move through the ranks quickly.

And you were also right about mage not necessarily being bad. Just have to choose the right skills/schools, and build them up, along with your spells.

@Mr. Sinister damn ya put in work for sure. Good to hear. That RDR2 has me sidetracked. Need to get back to the ES at some point.

I never understood the hate for mages. Their incredibly powerful with perks n proper gear. Even in the vanilla Skyrim.

Oh and your right the Staff of Magnus is killer. Drains magic and eventually health.

Yeah personally I don't see the use in being a true mage unless you make either Alteration or Enchantment one of your top skill trees.

Then for me I did Conjuration and Shock spells of the Destruction school (which you know has a plus side in that it also drains magicka) so if I do something like Lightning Cloak then Unbound Storms (which is a CC spell that basically turns me into Thor) It just vaporizes everything in the vicinity once you commit to dual cast, expert, augment shock and disentigrate. And when that magicka bar runs out, I switch over to dual staffs.

But Conjuration is my baby, because there it can become 2, and even 3 on 1, if I'm traveling with a companion, and now I can permanently  summon daedra, banish enemy daedra, or control them and turn them against other necromages. And with Dread Zombie, I can turn almost anyone immediately back on their homies.

Really fun way to play, especially as a light Thief, where I have so much magicka built up that even with virtually nothing put into Illusion, I can use spells to sneak around well enough, and use the enchantment buffs on Thieves Guild armor for special missions to sneak and pick locks.

Alteration is definitely one the keys to having a powerful mage. Its where many of the good defensive perks are.

I think it was @Predicto that first made me aware of how necessary the mage armor perk is. Way back durring the ES Skyrim thread days.

Yeah the mistake I made the first go round was mixing and matching light and heavy armor with the robes, when anything other than non armored clothing will break the spell.

That and I didn't really pay much attention to how each spell/school can piggyback off of the other... Like, if I wanted to, I could go hard on Alteration to include repelling and also absorbing opposing spells, but there's no need with the Staff of Hasedoki that blocks most stuff so long as you don't go on the offensive. Waste of skills. This time, every skill has it's own purpose.

Then I put just a little into Archer and One Handed so I can match up with anyone, seeing as my near mastery of the Conjuring school gives me a more powerful Bound Bow, Sword, and even the Battle Axe, and with no armor, I can move quickly to avoid deathblows and fire off runes and Shouts to gain the upper hand, and affect them with potions I never use.  Works like a charm since I use no physical weapons other than staffs, assuring that whenever I face an opponent where Bound Sword etc is advantageous, there's always a very powerful potion to help, along with more recently Enchanted boots that add 34% One Handed damage).

As you can see I probably put way too much thought into all this (so I wouldn't suck ass at it this time). ?

That's the thing about ES games though. Once you level up to a certain point, you're just godly. Its a nonlinear difficulty curve.

But I love being a magic wielding god. Everyone prefers stealth/archery but I love magic.

I naturally prefer the art and suspense of stealth combat, but I admit, this game offers a variety of intriguing playstyles.

The Khajiit customization options make me want to do a Dark Brotherhood Assassin playthrough as a Khajiit panther/tiger (cqc with the claws, lethal close quarters and stealth with daggers and potions, and Illusion school of magic for more effective assassinations. But at the same time I kinda want to be a smithy, heavy armored Orc sellsword and just plow forward with a big hammer/mace and crush people. Light Armored Imperial Spartan shield specialist build also seems cool.

Really cool thing is that some of the new CC material makes some of this possible. Like, the Staff of Hasedoki is purely a defensive Staff (aside from the soul trap aspect of it) but it is awesome at crowd control, and truly makes you feel like a Dark Wizard (the staff itself is truly foul looking... There's a sicker looking one called the Staff of Sheogorath that appears to be some kind of stasis staff, but it seemed kinda redundant so I have not purchased it).

Lot of new stuff there that doesn't seem like meaningless fluff, but really fun to incorporate into the world.

So I'm at the point now in RDR2 where I have two missions available, but they're both in Wanted: Dead or Alive areas southwest of the camp. When I try to approach them, I get absolutely annihilated as everyone turns hostile and there are enemies basically everywhere. What's the deal? I don't see any other missions to do so I don't see how I can advance further before trying again. Is there a specific route I have to take? I feel like I'm missing something.

@Warhead36 You may have a heavy bounty on your head in those areas. You can pay off the bounty at the post offices.

I've never been to those areas though. I'm assuming its where the gang was before the start of the game, so maybe I'm supposed to pay off that pre existing bounty before going over there?

Nintendo Direct for Smash Bros Ultimate put out today.  Nostalgia intensified.  Seriously, this series went from a little oddball nintendo fighter mashup to a huge love-letter to the entire video game industry.  The assist trophies and spirit fighters are a great way to pay homage to indies, secondary characters, and other under-appreciated characters.

Hey guys have a PC build question.  I can’t find the PC gaming and building thread so ima post it here and see if you all have any advice.

Due to a PC build gone wrong at work, I have a:

Intel Xeon Scalable Silver 4116 SkyLake 12-Core 2.1GHz (3.0 GHz Turbo)

Supermicro Motherboard MBD-X11SPI-TF-O Xeon Single Socket

Along with 64 GB of EEC ddr4 memory

And various other parts that may or may not be usable (old power supplies, cases, fans, etc)

With the above processor, motherboard, memory card.  Would it be worth throwing a high end video card into an making a gaming rig for pretty cheap considering a card is basically all I’d need?

Here is a link to the PC gaming/building thread

In the first post, there is a link to a site where you can plug in all the hardware and see if it is compatible with each other along with getting the best prices.   Looking at the processor and motherboard you listed, is this something that you will have to pay for or will your work give it to you for free?  Cause the processor and motherboard prices listed come close to almost $2000.

My build was a year ago, but at the time I got one of the best video cards out there.  So I'd probably at least try and get the vid card in my build or better if you can afford it and it's compatible with all your other hardware.  @PokerPacker is the man on PC builds, he basically gave me the build for my current rig based off the budget range I gave him (I tweaked it because I decided to put more $$$ into it and not skimp out on the vid card).

Edit:  Gotta make sure you power supply can handle everything and I recommend a getting a cpu cooler.  Not sure why it didn't list mine in my build in the link in the first post.  Updated it and here is the complete build:  https://pcpartpicker.com/list/G7jHHN    This will also help you see if your case is big enough to hold everything depending on what you need.

The processor and mobo have been paid for by the company and are now basically a loss.  So I wouldn’t be on the hook for either.

I just don’t know if they’d be suitable for a gaming rig.  I don’t know if I could do SLI on this mobo, or if SLI is even still a thing.

I found this article about gaming with an Intel Xeon processor:  https://www.gamingscan.com/intel-xeon-for-gaming-worth-it/

It can be done and I think the biggest reason they don't recommend it is the price (which isn't an issue for you), the only thing I would be concerned about is the compatibility of the video card, power supply, cpu cooler (if you get one) and if it would fit in the case.

I'd try searching Intel Xeon gaming rig builds and see what is out there already to get an idea if it's worth pursuing.  Last thing you would want to do is get the parts and them not fit or be compatible with the motherboard, etc.
