Es Coverage & Interactive Game Day Thread: Skins At Packers Final

This is exactly what you get when you play your "Star" QB before he's ready.. Shanahan should have know

once RG III signed that large endorsement contract that he was going to push to be the starter. If that's the case

you play him during the preseason..  Don't blame our O-Line or quite frankly our young defense for this fiasco.

You can place the blame squarely on the decision to play RG III and on RG III himself for being selfish.

Agreed. How can another team losing feel good when the 'Skins are awful

Because they are hoping that we can get our offense clicking again in the next week or three. But, the problem this year is that our defense is WAY worse than last year! Part of it is the rookies. The biggest part of it however, is scheme! Haslett needs to get a grip on his stupidity, and quick! We are NOT using our line and linebackers to their strengths!

Or maybe Dr. Andrews "concerns" where exactly what some thought they were.  Basically, no to run RO and expose him anymore.

To my eye, Robert is getting hit more in the pocket than outside of it.

I don't think Andrews has anything to do with this.  I think this is all on Robert and his camp not wanting him to run the ball.

I'd even go a step further, if Robert is not going to run, doesn't want to run, etc. I think you almost have to start looking at Kirk.  Because if you take Robert's running ability away, then Kirk is just as good at everything else, and maybe better.

Colin K doesn't need read option because their oline is ****ing awesome and their d is legit

RG3 needs read option because our line is a joke and our d can't stop anyone.

The read option definitely does needs to be incorporated since it's what made and still makes this offense tick.  Morris looks very mediocre without the threat of RG3 running.  On another note, with a win next week vs Detroit and continued losses by the NFC East, there will be a four way tie at the end of Week 3.

The guys father had NO place speaking up on what should and shouldn't happen to his son here this past summer.

He was an embarrassing jerk.

Robert is surrounded by some poor people.

Hail.

Now we're left to blaming the dad?!

Man .. losing sucks!

"surrounded by some poor people"

It's his father....his father. He was concerned that his son had his career ended or threatened. Get out of here with that, you are better than that.

So basically, if an RG3 that can't/won't run can't be effective, they've got the wrong guy now.  He's just a guy.  Is that what you're getting at?

But I find it hard to believe the dad of a player is influencing football decisions to that degree.

Respectfully, Megatron and Bush aren't Jones, Nelson, Starks, Finley, and Cobb.

And as I post, Detroit isn't exactly killing Arizona whom they should be able to easily beat. I mean, if we are going to make Detroit out to be such a juggernaut! The Packers are a much better team than the Lions. AND the E-gals.

Naturally he was concerned as a parent.

But he has ZERO right to interfere with this ball club and his sons career.

Who's playing here? RGIII or RGII? Would he storm down the local PD if he was a cop in a rough town and demand he be kept off the streets?

I obviously aren't better than that as I personally thought he was an absolute disgrace. And still do.

Hail.

Trevor Freaking Mattich (or however you spell it) just said the same thing I've been saying, there is NO motion to the offense.  Robert is always in the exact same spot.

Now they are saying that he CAN'T move out, because he's not fast enough, etc.

I think it's all mental.  And I think it's all on Robert and his camp.

Things I noticed today.

1. The offense is still a work in progress. There are still a lot of dropped passes, incorrect route running, QB rust and the running game is not quite where it needs to be.

2. The defensive line started well today but eventually got blown off the line and GB's running game got on track. The secondary is one hot mess and I am not sure I have seen a worse secondary in years.

Grades:

RGIII: (C+) Still rusty but at least he is steady and appears to slowly be getting to a respectable level. Maybe in 3-5 games

Morris/Helu: (B+)No sign of Helu today but Morris did well

WRs / TEs: (C-) Garcon had an A game, same with Reed. Moss was his usual self and Hankerson was solid. Can't say the same for the others as dropped passes are still a problem.

Defense

LBs: (C-) Kerrigan and Rak started off terrifically but faded as fatigue set in. The others were pretty much ineffective

DEs/DTs: (D) Where is the pressure??? How many years and counting now?

CBs: (F) Still getting burned big time. These guys can't tackle but we have to live with it

S: (F) Merriweather made a brief cameo appearance, as a ram, but buttheaded his way to injury. I refuse to comment on the others

Special Teams

P: (B-) Meh

K: (D) Can believe I actuall miss Forbath

Coaching

(F) Kyle Shanahan is clearly over his head. Haslett has run his course as a defensive specialist in Washington. Shanahan Sr. actually is not so bad, it's just his supporting cast is the real cancer.

Seriously?

Because he served his Country that gives him the right to interfere with how this ball club goes around things?

Well Hell, why do we even bother paying the coaches. Let Robert Senior decide our game plan. He's earn't the right tp decide how his sons career plays due to his Military service.

I stand corrected.

Hail.

Yeah, you need to calm your ass down.  My dad was in Vietnam, my grandfather in the European theater for WWII, and I've had many friends go to Iraq and one not come back.  NONE of them would want to be treated differently because of that.

They would be embarrassed by this type of talk, so back off.

I agree with you on the first part about Robert; it's mental.

I disagree with you on the second part; I don't blame "his camp." It's strictly between his ears. And I believe he'll get it worked out.

I also believe that Mike and Kyle have not called a good offense in these two games. We do NOT look like last year, and that's not all on Robert. Because the rest of the offense looks out of place as well!

This is off topic, but you can serve our country and still be a jerk. In fact, I know people in the military who are complete assholes. Others that are awesome people. The military fetish in this country is so weird.

Anyhow. Back on topic. Wow. We sorta suck.

It could be - you have to be careful because its been 4th quarter each game but we have looked effective on offense only when we have gone shotgun spread and thrown it. Morris can still be effective in that look on inside zone running it but we use the pass to set that up rather than the run to set up the pass. Thats a very different identity to what we had las year but without read option freezing defenses I think it's a switch we should make.

As big a concern is the defense. I defended them last week because the offense put them in an impossible situation but today our tackling was unacceptable (and it was not Rambo either). We were just not getting off blocks either and the secondary needs pressure to be effective. If you can't get off blocks, are poor at tackling and struggle to cover ......well your just not very good on defense.

The defense has been horrible for two weeks now.  Vick missed some wide open WRs that Rodgers didn't today.  People will complain that they are on the field too much but they have themselves to blame for that also.  I could understand if they were getting three and outs and the offense was putting them right back on the field.  That's not happening.  They are getting taken to school from the start.  Pass catchers are wide open and nobody is in position to make a tackle.  I'm so sick of watching our defenders diving at peoples' feet.  Too many times, there are no defenders to contest a catch made by a Packer.

I know it may increase the number of injuries but I want our guys to hit more in training camp next year.
