steve09ru
Lol, I'm going back and forth with some anti-namer on a thread for redskins facts and all they are doing is throwing up pictures to prove a point. I've called them out on a number of the facts and the last one was red mesa and all they said was there's a difference, look it up.

Commander PK
There were a lot. There were a couple Pro-Redskins natives, but they didn't get any attention. Oh I am sure there were a lot but were they all card-carrying? Because most of the natives I have debated on this would tell you only a card-carrying natives opinion matters. Were they padding their protest with non-natives?

Because most of the natives I have debated on this would tell you only a card-carrying natives opinion matters. Were they padding their protest with non-natives? Obviously I need to send off for my card. (They only made them available like 10 years ago. And only a few years back made them available without having to travel to Oklahoma, to get them). (I recently discovered that a tribal identification card is apparently considered valid ID for some purposes. For example, it apparently can be used in two places for a form I-9). (I wonder if I can use one to vote, in Florida.).
8181
The name isn't changing anytime soon. This was a fad debate and it'll rise up again at a later time, but it's quickly losing relevance. Let me state that I empathize with those who are against the Redskins name because I can see their viewpoint. But at the end of the day, when you are the minority, you have to take your lumps and pick your battles. This isn't it.
elkabong82
and they are still trying to push the lie that the name refers to bloody scalps. Sorry, but when the crux of your argument is a complete lie, and has been proven to be a lie, I can't respect your POV on the matter. anyone with any capacity for reading comprehension can tell the newspaper article oft cited in the bloody scalps lie doesn't use redskin to refer to scalps but to refer to people. autoidiodyssey
CBS 9 in DC showed a couple of aerial shots during halftime of the Denver-NE game. It looked in the low hundreds to me assuming that both shots were of the same crowd at different points in the protest. One shot showed a spread out group walking, the other showed a more concentrated group gathered in one area. That Star Tribune article says 3200-5000 depending on the source (organizers - high, police - low). You would think if there were that many people there they could have come up with a photo that had more than 25-30 people in it. The USA Today count seems a little more likely. (AP) - A federal judge seems to think Native Americans offended by the Washington Redskins team name are properly being sued by the NFL franchise. Judge Gerald Bruce Lee suggested during a hearing Friday that it would be unprecedented to dismiss the team's lawsuit against five Native Americans who complained about the name to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. A trademark office board decided in June to cancel some of the Redskins' trademarks, citing federal regulations against protecting words and images that are disparaging or offensive. The team could have challenged the ruling in appellate court in Washington, but sought help instead in a venue that gives it more options, by going to a trial court to sue the Native Americans who complained in the first place. MattFancy
Had a friend at the game yesterday and she said the protestors were calling her a racist and just overall bashing anyone with Redskins gear on. She said even little kids were getting into the act cursing at Redskin fans and such. She made it sound like it was a disaster.

StephenDavis
The protesters were just making themselves feel important for an afternoon. It's probably setting in now that their efforts were a waste. Their lives suck again.
Larry
The protesters were just making themselves feel important for an afternoon. It's probably setting in now that their efforts were a waste. Their lives suck again. Not true. Those protesters got off their behinds and went forth in the world, to try to help those poor oppressed Natives who can't help themselves without my help. The fact that said Natives didn't ask for their help, or even agree with them? Doesn't matter. Because the Natives they're helping exist in the protester's minds. Consider how many seats your average NFL stadium has, 3,000 people doesn't look like much in big wide open spaces. Not sure what difference any if this makes. If they want a protest that turns heads they'd need to bus 100k on the DC mall. That would get them national attention that no one could ignore easily. The Daily show and Colbert got 200k out for their mock protest "rally for sanity/rally for fear" which was a lot of fun. Something tells me this movement would struggle to get 10k. Boss_Hogg
So UnWise Mike said the team bus crash was the result of karma. What a jackass, that wreck could've been fatal and a Minneapolis peace officer was badly injured. Hey Mike, why don't you go tell that officer's children that his injuries are "karma" because he was escorting a bus full of racists. If I ever see that bald headed ninja turtle looking mark on the street, I'm going to beat his ass. I don't care if he sues me or if I go to jail. Someone needs to shut this bama up. I wasn't thinking it would be only native Americans, or even mostly. There is no way you'd get large numbers of that community converging on Washington DC for this issue. If they came to DC in really large numbers, which would really be something to see for the symbolism alone, it wouldn't be over a team name. grego
ok. while this appears to be, by far, the most protesters that have bothered to show up, this only stands out to me because its more than 60 or so people. this is the mecca of native american advocacy we are talking about. The American Indian Movement (AIM) is a Native American advocacy group in the United States, founded in July 1968 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 3.8 million people in the minny metro area. the number of protesters vs the amount of media coverage this issue has received the past couple of years is not remotely close, imo. You are asking for something 10 percent of the entire NA population of the country to show up to DC (assuming you want only Natives there). how large do you think the NA population is?
