Boss_Hogg
just got back from the game.....lots of 49er fans there.....and I agree on Banks. His performance was WEAK. Danny Smith's insistence to put him out there over and over like Randel El is amazing.Add on top....the 49er fans in front of us would yell "Number 37 is out there in coverage, go towards him". Stupid fans knew Doughty is not good. tons of niners fans there, I'm sure they are all from SF. :sarcasm: The Cowboy game is going to be awful. SkinsCrushCowboys
Brandon is pressing right now.Hopefully, he'll pull it together. 8 games in and he has gone from a gamble to a liability. He is not performing, he is not a game changer and while this team sucks, he is taking a roster spot from someone who may actually make the team next year. hopefully he will not
fifthorkid88
Hate to say it, but it may be time to cut ties. The guy is becoming a liability. The fumble inside the 5 was inexcusable. He should not even have attempted to catch it. Time to give Niles Paul a full time shot at being the return guy.
Phixius
It's time to get rid of Banks. He's has done nothing but waste opportunity for himself and another player.

Conn
Cut Banks and Stallworth, bring up Robinson if he's improved at all on the PS, and sign an OL.
MumboSauce
Put him on some other Special teams squads on another team and he gets some returns I bet. He's no the problem.
Rocket442Olds
tons of niners fans there, I'm sure they are all from SF. :sarcasm: Yeah, how dare they! This crap annoys me, and half of ES feels that way. You can be a fan of a team for a reason other than mileage to its stadium. As for Banks, the lack of explosive plays isn't even the most concerning part about his play to me. It is that he seemingly doesn't understand when to let a ball go on Punt Returns, and surely doesn't understand when to take a knee on kickoffs. He's taken kicks out of the endzone from 8+ yards deep and then gets to the 15 or so. If he was the next Devon Hester maybe I'd be okay with this, but it's quite apparent he is not. I don't know if cutting him right now is the best idea, but I hope he at least shows a bit more smarts as to when to take his chances, and when to let the team get the ball on the 20. skinfan2k
he simply isn't worth a roster spot and he's not worth the award of keeping someone solely as a KR

MadMonkey
All that points to poor coaching, to me. I'm pretty sure that Danny Smith isn't that bad of a coach to teach Banks when to down a kick and not to field a punt inside your own 10. this is all an Banks making stupid decisions trying to make big plays on his own. Rypien1191
He has been worse than the late Rock Cartwright years when you could never expect a return past the 30 yard line.

I thought this thread was about Banks` idiotic decisions not Danny Smith's coaching ability. Banks is playing horrible which has no bearing on what is coached to him. I guess Banks fumble that was almost lost is Smith's fault to huh?

Banks has been making the same kind of decisions for awhile. Isn't a Special Teams Coach supposed to correct that, by coaching the player or pulling him? Almost makes you think the coach in this case is letting it happen, doesn't it?
tibbidoe
I'm kinda on board with this. He just seems slower this year. Maybe it's just me, but he's not getting to the corner like before, he consistently comes up short of the 20 and I'm not sure if he could brake a tackle even if his life was on the line. If it's the rule change that's having the impact on his returns, then he really isn't doing anything but taking away a roster spot that could be used for a bit more depth at another position. If it's just a bad year for him, it could point to that knee problem being worse than reported earlier in the season. He may have the ability to "score any time he touches the ball", but he only touches the ball on returns and the rule seems to take that away even more. Me, I'd use his spot for another OL... MartinC
I'm not one for knee jerk reactions but if a guy has a roster spot just to return kicks and is not doing that well through half a season now it gets harder to justify keeping that roster spot. I'm now at the point where I am on board with cutting Banks and giving the return duties to Niles Paul.

I'm now at the point where I am on board with cutting Banks and giving the return duties to Niles Paul. As much as I love Banks, it's pretty hard to argue this after his year to date. Although I don't think he's been helped out much at all by the lack of blocking in front of him; he now appears to be trying too hard to make something happen which is leading to some real questionable mental decisions out there. (The muffed catches just the latest to add to some boneheaded returns from stupendously deep positions. Although his coach should of nipped that in the bud already.). There's other's like Sellers, Stallworth and Scott who also contribute next to nothing I'd cut before him still; but ultimately if your not contributing, through whatever factor, to the one thing your there for; it's real hard to justify keeping you around. Talking of wide-outs, I'm hopeful the speedster Robinson gets bumped sooner rather than later to see what we have in him in live action regular season play. Hail. richmond_skins
I loved some Banks when there was potential. He still was sloppy even when he was making big returns, but now he has lost his upside. It is time for Paul to pick up the return game.
Wyvern
I've never been a fan of Banks, but I was willing to see if his on the field performance could outweigh my initial negative perceptions of his other characteristics. So far, I haven't seen that much. I'm sure, --sooner of later-- an opponent's special teams coverage will break down and Banks will be able to run it back all the way. But that run-back won't outweigh all the other times when Banks left his team with poor field position. Physically, Banks slender stature dictates he's not going to break though many tackles, and he's shown that he has difficulties fighting through that first contact by a defender. I suspect he's slower this year, but not 100% sure. But I also suspect his injury has made him less elusive. There's no real bobbing and weaving through open lanes -- most of his runs are predictably more staright-line, veering out to one of the sidelines (or the occasional slow reverse turn to the other sideline). Regardles, if he can turn the corner to head upfield, he's not often getting past the folks in those lanes near the sidelines. Mentally --there are those fielding decisions that have become increasingly questionable. Maybe Banks was given the green light by the coaches, but trying to run out from eight yards deep in the endzone? Even the commentators were mentioning his bad decisions. Maybe he's pressing too hard, maybe he thinks he sees an opening -- but whatever the reason ... the results haven't been that good. While I suspect Niles Paul is going to see more time in the future -- I also think we'll see Banks for a while longer. Maybe the coaches see that Banks' injury is improving and they hope he'll regain his explosiveness. But Banks better show something soon, because his level of play simply isn't "special" enough to justify his spot as a 'return specialist'. CrabR
my cut list for next season Stallworth, Donte Hightower, Tim Torain, Ryan Sellers, Mike McIntosh, Rocky Landry, LaRon [only bring back for a average contract] Locklear, Sean Golston, Kedric Fox, Keyaron Cook, Erik Byrd, Dominique Beck, John Austin, Terrence Banks, Brandon Barnes, Kevin Alexander, Lorenzo Gaffney, Jabar Scott, Darrion Grossman. Rex If we need a ST player instead of a real backup then resign a few a vet min.I think we can get younger and better than these. Once we are out of it we need to bring in the PS players and give them their shot. I can only see 1 even being helpful
