SkinsCrushCowboys
He was a novelty last year, with the rule change and his east west running....he is wasting a roster spot. I don't think he really scares d coordinators any more. taking a roster spot with minimal returns. Time to cut the cord
Leonard Washington
Banks needs blocks...he's trying to make plays and get up field. no concerns with him.
Runs with Scissors
So we cut our only player who can score anytime he touches the ball and replace him with whom?
nelsonal
Who's sitting at home who you'd rather pick up? It makes little sense to cut someone midway through the season unless there's a very good reason to do so, especially when that person is doing as well as the average player at his position. Also, who is going to be the returnman for the rest of the season? How comfortable would you be with the extra risk of season ending injury to them? And since some people are totally against giving Grossman another shot we might need another QB. Austin and Paul are both return men, so we have some options
GOSKN5
He is close to breaking one on a few returns in the last few games... i believe he will break one soon.... I dont agree with the "waste of roster space" argument, anyone else we add would likely not see the field anyway....
Welcome to DC
Tired of him running out of the endzone when he's a good 5+ yards deep. I can understand if he's a yard or two, but the guy needs to be smarter.
ddub52
He had a nice return past the 30 today on a kickoff. Teams prepare for him and punt not to give him room to break and that still makes a difference. Hes averaging over 10 yards a punt return. So hes not Devin Hester. What do you want? Hitman21ST
So we cut our only player who can score anytime he touches the ball and replace him with whom? Banks has been anything but a threat this year. I was ok with him taking the ball out from 9 yards deep when he could break it. Now, when he runs right into the coverage team at the 15, he's wasting a roster spot since he can't play receiver.
Goingforburgundy
It has look like he has had zero blocking
skinzplay
If you have a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, it does you no good if you're forced to drive through thick mud. The blocking is not very good. Individual talent can only overcome (and mask) so much.
justice98
Just for context, Banks is only averaging 1 fewer yard per punt return this year vs last. Kick returns are 3 yards per return shorter.
Redskin Diehard
He was a novelty last year, with the rule change and his east west running....he is wasting a roster spot.I don't think he really scares d coordinators any more. taking a roster spot with minimal returns. Time to cut the cord Brandon Banks isnt by himself where wasted roster spots are concerned (Leonard Hankerson is missing in action this season)... Yeah... every now and then he should take a knee in the endzone and take the 20 yards... and it does take exceptional blocking to break him free because of his size but with all that being said he's one of a handful of Redskins players who have the speed to go all the way whenever they touch the ball. There's a reason he's taking up a roster spot as a return specialist only. Would you have a problem with Shanny & Son using Banks roster spot on a 3rd string QB? Probably not... When you consider the 3rd sting QB on a team plays very rarely throughout the course of a season, whats the difference? I like the fact that Banks at the very least has the potential to score any given sunday... and in some cases, multiple times depending on how good the other team's special teams are... I say keep him because he's a game breaker. Philly's special teams shut him down pretty good but you never know... he just might have a field day against Carolina's special teams next game. Redskinzfan30
I don't think we need to cut him but he does need to be talked to about talking the ball out of the endzone when he's really deep. I think one of the announcers said he was 7 yards deep today and he brought it out and only got back to around the 15. That stuff could end up costing us points. Bobbyst21
Banks can not,in anyway be compared to ARE. Randle El probably had just as many yards, but his were sideline to sideline. At least Banks knows where the endzone is and attempts to run toward it
8181
Big disappointment. I think his injuries last year combined with the stabbing have made him not as quick. Last year, he was noticeably electric in terms of speed. This year, he doesn't look any faster than other team's returners.
justice98
I think the fact that he keeps taking it out deep in the endzone leads me to believe that he's given carte blanche, or at least they're not explicitly coaching him to not do that. NoCalMike
Banks is leading the NFL in kickoff return yardage. Don't be discouraged just because he hasn't taken one to the house. Sometimes the coverage is just good. Don't forget how many times he fielded punts and put the 'Skins at midfield instead of their own 20 or 30. Leonard Washington
this is a terrible thread. i can't believe people think banks needs to be let go.
Runs with Scissors
So..cut Banks because he doesn't play WR and replace him with Paul or Austin, who also don't do much at WR neither. Sign a street FA or practice squad player to play backup? NO!
Box76
There is nothing wrong with Banks that some half-way decent blocking can't cure.
blindlywewander
He does take it out from deep, but Smith tells him when and when not to take it out. Banks is one of the better retuners in the league, we just don't have the blocking. I'm a fan of our special teams coverage on punts and kick offs, but our return setups are terrible. That said, the idea that Banks is wasting a roster spot is stupid.
