Time to Cut Antwan Randle Banks

Im sure it has nothing to do with the lack of blocking. Give this kid just one hole and he will take it to the house. I sure dont see anyone else on this roster thats a threat at any position. All most of you want to do is point the finger at one indivisual, when the root of the problem is with many including coaches.

So, are you defending Banks by agreeing that we performed better with journeymen returners who also covered kicks and played on offense? If so, how does that add up to justifying a roster spot for a specialist who contributes to no other facets of the game and is middle of the pack this year?

Assuming Austin or Paul could run from the end zone to the 15 without falling down before the coverage arrives, couldn't we make better use of the roster spot?

the thing that's obvious to everyone but you is that banks is far more likely to break one than those guys.

Yeah, and everyone should realize what is probably going through his mind when returns kicks..."If I don't run this thing back, we probably ain't gonna score!" A lot of pressure on a kick returner:cool:

No, I will grant that he is probably more likely to do so. Then again, those two returned kicks in college too, so it isn't ridiculous to think they could bust one too. And, maybe it is possible that they could get to the 30 more consistently if they are more polished.

To me, scoring once and starting at the 15 for the rest of the season isn't a success...I would take consistently good field position over the once per season TD. The pro-Banks camp seems to only be hanging their hats on TDs, of which Banks is averaging less than one per year at this point.

Banks is no Devin Hester or Cobbs.

He is small, and a one trick pony. After his leg injury the brust of speed has gone, and he is pretty pedestrian. Time to put Austin, and Niles back as KR/PR, and use Banks spot to get an OL or Royster on the roster.

On that last punt return that he fumbled, did it look like to anybody else like he gave up on trying to recover it? It looks likle once it hit the gorund and bounced forward a couple times he stood up straight and did not try to get it because he saw the SF defender coming at him. I realize he still recovered it because SF muffed it, but you can't give up on a live ball like that because you're scared to get hit.

he's become like the rest of the team ABYSMAL :( THIS TEAM IS A DISGRACE TO WATCH RIGHT NOW !!!

Well, that much is true. But I do thinks that Banks has been especially atrocious. I understand a guy's desire to run the ball out of the endzone to try to make something happen, but how many times has he tried it and been stopped short of the 20? I wonder why we don't ever see him work with the offense? Certainly he could be given some screens to try to make something happen.

When you take up a roster spot to only return kicks, you better be special. Banks isn't, and is wasting a precious position that an OL or Royster could occupy. It honestly looks like he doesn't care back there anymore. Maybe getting stabbed in that night club messed him up, who knows.

I really hope he gets shown the door, Banks has done nothing that justifies keeping him any longer especially with the amount of holes we have. At least with that one kick that Paul fielded we got the same starting position but he didn't go down on first contact.

Can't say I disagree 100%... but most of the posts that support keeping Banks make some fair points. I'm more concerned with his judgement than I am with his ability. He's got to do a better job of knowing when to let the ball go over his head and the muffed should-be-catches... will get him cut faster than anything else. I have a feeling at some point this week, Banks will get called into the boss' office so Shanny can remind him they pay him to catch it. If he cant catch it he needs to get away from the ball. Pretty basic stuff... but with all that being said he's the best kick returner we've had here in 10 years. Is it a wasted roster spot? Possibly... but like someone else pointed out... lets say we had cut Banks at the beginning of the season and kept Kellen Clemons instead? Clemons probably wouldn't have been given a chance to play this season (as long as Grossman and Beck remain fairly healthy anyway) while on the other hand, Banks could have been picked up by the Cowboys or somebody else in the NFC East and probably would have ended up having a Pro Bowl season if we had cut him. All things considered, I'd rather take my chances with Banks rather than rely on Terrence Austin or Niles Paul being able to take it the distance.

I don't think Banks will ever regain his explosive quickness that he had pre-injury. I tend to agree, it's time to let him go, but not at ALL because he's as bad as ARE. ARE danced left and right and got no where. Banks doesn't do that, he's just not as good as he was.

In fairness to Banks up unitl late in the game everyone was making crucial mistakes, just like Trent 71. That penalty was a major one!

Trent Williams has been a huge disappointment. To make matters worse... he had another bonehead unnecessary roughness penalty earlier this season that kept us from scoring then as well if I'm not mistaken. I have never been a fan of taking offensive lineman with high 1st round draft picks. My philosophy is you need to get playmakers (players gifted with the athleticism needed to score points on occassion) that high in the draft. Fat guys are a dime a dozen. At first glance, Trent Williams appears to be quite overrated more because of what is going on or not going on upstairs more than anything else. I really hope he proves me wrong because he was supposed to be our anchor on the o-line for the next 10 years but I'm starting to wonder...

I was EXTREMELY vocal about getting Eric Berry instead of Trent Williams in that draft. I agree with you, fat guys are a dime a dozen, a player at Eric Berry's caliber... not so much. He would have at least helped out this weak secondary....

just got back from the game.....lots of 49er fans there.....and I agree on Banks. His performance was WEAK. Danny Smith's insistence to put him out there over and over like Randel El is amazing.

Add on top....the 49er fans in front of us would yell "Number 37 is out there in coverage, go towards him". Stupid fans knew Doughty is not good.
