H-O-G
With about 3 minutes left, mcnabb scrambled for a first down and instead of taking the easy slide inbounds that would take the clock close to the 2 minute warning, he jogs out of bounds...It wasn't a smart football play, anyone else care about it when it happened like I did? panel
yes, that drove me crazy, it was not smart, and I expect a vet like McNabb to know that, but I was happy that he at least got the first down.
U C S D SkinsFan
well wth are you concerned about? yeah it wasn't the smartest play, but it is what it is. it's the redskins man, if mcnabb stayed in bounds, we probably coulda ran the clock out..that's not what we do. we needed that and a false start to make this game interesting. CRobi21
Only thing that concerned me was that he starting holding his groin a little bit. Could he have slid and stayed in bounds? Yes, but I felt pretty comfortable we had the game won when he got that first.
RANSKINS98
I wondered why he didn't slide but we got the first down so its all good. I just loved seeing him run for the first down ahh what a sight for sore eyes.
TSO
I was definitely annoyed... not a smart play at all. It was a clutch play on 3rd and 4, and we needed to convert to milk the clock more, so he definitely missed that point in a big way by running out of bounds. However, he still converted for the first and gave us another three downs to milk the clock. So if you look at it the play in its totality, it was more positive then negative. Sweet Sassy Molassy
Yeah, it didn't make sense that he ran out of bounds. It looked like he took the extra yards over sliding, and realized that he would have likely got wrecked had he tried to slide (it looked like someone bearing down on him) so he just went out of bounds to avoid a hit. But still, I would have preferred him just get the first down and slide straight to the ground rather than get 6/7 more yards in that particular situation. NoVaSkins21
I think McNabb was more worried about getting hit and having the ball knocked out. It wasn't the smartest play in the world, but the result of the play is what counts the most.
Mad Mike
Avant almost caught that hail mary at the end of the game. It was in his hands and he just dropped it. That's how close we came to losing. If McNabb slides and keeps the clock going, it never gets that far. HELL YES that concerned me. I like McNabb. But he is prone to some boneheaded plays sometimes. He started strong and had some other good moments, but today was NOT a good day for him.
Warhead36
It made me rage but I'll let it go because he's still giving us better QB play than anything we've had in over a decade.

fuji869
Yep I was wondering the same thing too, give your self up or slide to keep the clock running. He is a veteran so he should know better!
Zazzaro703
This is the same Mc5 that didn't know about games tying at the end of overtime. It did get us 3 more downs to bleed the clock, but like a previous poster said the game winning catch was dropped by the eagles on the last play. Travdaskin
Play is over and done with. Hindsight is always 20/20 he got the first down. I'm more pissed at Heyer for making the game complicated with his predictable false start on 2nd and 3...
spjunkies
I was, but when I saw him pull up lame I figured that was why he made that choice instead of taking a chance of sustaining further injury by taking a potential big hit.
Frostx08
And if Carlos Rogers catches that game ending interception we win the game But anyway you do have a point. McNabb should have known better. Actually....if he did that the Eagles probably wouldn't have gotten the ball back
Oldskool
McNabb had several mental errors during the game: Running out of bounds to stop the clock. Throw in the dirt to a wide open Cooley. The intercepted pass where there wasn't a burgundy shirt for yards. I'm going to chalk it up to nerves from being at the Linc again as a Skin and sleep well tonight knowing that the Skins beat Philthy in their own house. fullnelson9999
At that point all I cared about was the first down. Yes he's a vet and should know better, but sometimes instincts take over, and I'm sure running out of bounds in that situation is drilled into his brain. The last 39 minutes (!) of this game were horrible! To me McNabb has always had that slight Favre tendency of just throw it and try to make something happen. As for the OB play, who knows - making sure he doesnt take a hit and lose the ball? I was just glad for the first down and keep the ball. It was only after the play I realised we had stooped the clock. Then the Heyer penalty - a bunch of things wrong.
TimmySmith
Give the guy a break, he just made a back breaking first down late in the game.
NewCliche21
He made a massive play and then had a brain fart and ran out of bounds. No, it doesn't concern anyone whose blood pressure isn't measured in the thousands.
daNattyFatty
The intercepted pass where there wasn't a burgundy shirt for yards. How do you know that it wasn't a blown route by Fred Davis? From the garbage that we've seen from Davis so far this year, I certainly wouldn't rule that out.
BuddyLeeGhostHunter
McNabb was on cloud 9 on that play and wasn't thinking. He enjoyed that conversion.
iMeast
He made a mistake that I am glad didn't come back and bite the Redskins in the butt. HTTR
Burgold
I think that's a qb play. Running backs are groomed to take that hit and finish that play. Qbs are drilled to avoid that hit and preserve themselves. I think years of that habit came into his head when he saw the Eagle's Db coming up on him and so he just skipped out of bounds. The first down was his goal and the play we had to have. It gave us the 2 minute warning plus and should have led to an easy punt pinning the eagles inside the 10. Who could have forseen that lousy a punt?
