Barton is an odd signing. Why play against the likes of Kilmarnock and Motherwell than Man U etc. He is a year and a bit off 35. Just seems a 'journey man' player type of decision for a guy that could have signed off against the top teams. I imagine he will be wound up by one or two of our stalwart Scottish premiership defenders. If Sevco's defenders don't improve he will finish back in the Championship division (Scottish not English).

Dalglish has a lot to answer for. It dawned on me during last season that with Caroll and Suarez he was building a 1974 Scottish World Cup team with Caroll in the Jordan role and Suarez in the, well, Dalglish role! 1970's football in the 21st century wont do it. Long way to go to get this team straightened out. The Redskins of the EPL!

Going to Hearts-L'pool? Tynecastle is a great ground. Stands are tight to the pitch giving it a really enclosed feel and a great atmosphere with a sell-out game. Liverpool should out gun Hearts but I watched the WBA game today and they were awful by the time the game finished. Another title 'challenge' over by Christmas.

Yes although its hard to believe that Barca can hit bar and post three times and miss at least two sitters next time around without scoring. Good result but its being treated as if they have knocked Barca out over here! still 90+ minutes to go.

The goal keeping gaffe in this match always raises a smile What a squad we had back then with the likes of Dalglish (Celtic/Liverpool), Joe Jordan (Leeds), Souness (Liverpool), McQueen (Man U). the list went on and on. Crazy crowd too. Used to go to games at Hampden Park back then with 100,000+ crowds cranked up on booze! :silly: icV9XJRRNJQ

Italy tend to sleep walk through group stages. They could be in trouble if they do as the Croats are a very useful side and stomped Turkey easily to qualify. Englands section looks tough on paper but I wouldnt rate Sweden much more than 'ok' these days (but with a very dangerous striker in Ibrahimovic) and the same with France, who play well at times but still rebuilding. Netherlands/Germany (my favourite) in Group B and Greece/Russia from a very uninspiring Group A Germany/Spain would be a cracking final

Diving happens in every league. We like to kid ourselves that its not as bad in Britain but people are kidding hemselves. Dives, penalties that never were, shirt pulling, hounding the ref goes on every week. The thing about the Barca - Real game is that sadly the disrespect between both teams is so high that both teams will do whatever it takes to get at the other. The play acting is awful but the idea Barca were worse? take a look at players like Di Maria of Real and of course Ronaldo.
