Skin'emAlive
I think its pretty glaring when everyone in the entire country, regardless of the team they follow, are in agreement with these 3 things. 1: Wizards are the worst team name in all of pro sports 2. They should go back to being the Bullets 3. The previous jerseys sucked almost as bad as the name did
Sticksboi05
Here is a clue, EG got the most out of this franchise than anyone else in 15 years. Stop misrepresenting me. And stop talking about me when I am not around If his best is one second round appearance he sucks. Who cares if it is the best. If the best is still mediocre, then it's time to move on. Sounds like I'm in the Capitals forum talking about GMGM.
Thinking Skins
Wizards will be the worse name in the league until we change the name, at which point whatever we change the name to will become the worse name in the league. And this will not be national media saying this stuff, it will be local fans hating their team because they need something new to hate or need a reason to root against DC teams, or root for the Lakers, or the Heat, or the Celtics or the Thunder or the Grizzlies or whoever is hot at the time. I'm all for keeping the name Wizards. I'm all for changing it. I'm all for Monuments. I don't really give a ****. What I care about is winning. Everything else is kinda side arguments. Its stuff you chit chat about in the office before the meeting starts, but that never actually makes its way into the meeting room because it has ZERO effect on wins and losses (unless our team buys into the philosophy that we need a great name that inspires our players to play harder). @DCGoldPants
Does feel that "Monuments" is coming. Not sure if I like that. Make it easy, call them the Capitals also, and lets go home.
No Excuses
They won't switch to Monuments. That doesn't even make sense. I don't think Wizards is the worst name in pro sports. I recently changed my mind and consider "Thunder" to be the worst.

I recently changed my mind and consider "Thunder" to be the worst. Well that's easy, any team name that doesn't end in an S is terrible except for the Avalanche. I used to think the Thunder was a terrible name too, but its growing on. I should retract my first statement about how the Wizards are the worst team name, but its certainly up there. ---------- Post added May-11th-2011 at 04:20 PM ---------- i like DC Generals, DC Defense, DC Destroyers, Washington Bureuacrats, I always liked Senators or Generals

Sounds like I'm in the Capitals forum talking about GMGM. Point being, in the NBA, you DEFINITELY don't become a winning franchise overnight. You have to walk before you can run. People in here have compared the Wizards to Seattle, as an example, and act like we are better. We aren't. NO FREE AGENTS want to come here. How do you change that???, at least make the playoffs. At least our current GM got someone to come here. He helped us get to 4 straight playoff appearances and 8 victories. To get 8 total playoff wins PRIOR to his arrival you would have to add up all of the playoff wins since the 1981-1982 season. Thats 22 seasons of dispair. A guy gets more out of the franchise than anyone else, and we want to run him out of town. The Wizards GM job isn't a very desired position. He actually made Wizards basketball watchable again. So talk smack about the GM all you want. Discredit 4 years of playoffs all you want. He turned a giant turd into a team the fans actually started to go to games for. You walk before you run. You don't become a contender overnight, or in a few years without lucking into a Lebron James, Kobe, etc, etc, etc.

chipwhich
Hmmm, maybe our appreciation of Ernie can bring us together Chip. I still think you're a grumpy old man though. Sorry it's frustrating. We are who we are. Our GM has done a good job. To hear it, you would think we were a perennial contender and our GM has been our Achilles heal. Don't be mad at me GACOLB. I want the Wizards to win, I want them to do it the right way. I want people to have patience. We don't even know how Ernie might be now that he has an owner who wants to do things right. Thank god Leonsis knows better. I am so over the franchise history of losing youth and bringing in retreads.
G.A.C.O.L.B.
Grumpy old man is probably too nice. I think miserable old man is more fitting. And I know I can't be the only one who is noticing how you're trying to go positive now. Like Trump with the birth certificate, I'll take credit for that. Burgold
Comparing chipwich to Trump is uncool. Chip's been a good poster for a long time. Healthy skepticism of the Wizards is an unfortunate side effect caused by the team itself.

But I did enjoy watching Gilbert and that high octane offense. If you are going to fault Ernie for anything...fault him on his head coach selections....although many believe those were Abe's coaches....which I wouldn't be surprised....we've seen how much better Ernie's draft seams to be post Pollin! What we really needed during the Gil years was a better head coach who demanded discipline and defense from his players. ---------- Post added May-11th-2011 at 09:41 PM ---------- How sad is it that several months ago we were complaining about how week of a draft class this is.....and that was before Perry Jones, Harrison Barnes, Terrance Jones, and Jared Sullinger decided to go back to school. With the way the draft looks now....I would have loved to have one of these 7 guys on our team....that would have been almost guaranteed: Williams, Irving, Kanter, Sullinger, P Jones, Barnes, T. Jones I'm not really high on Sullinger or T. Jones...but they look much more attractive than what we have on the table now. If we don't get a top 3 pick it will be devastating! G.A.C.O.L.B.
Wasn't Eddie Jordan on board before Ernie? And remember when Ernie tried to hire Tom Thibodeau--current HC of the Eastern Conference's #1 seed--as a "defensive specialist coach" (or whatever) and Eddie threw a hissy fit and ran him out of town? That was Ernie trying to get his own headcoach in through the backdoor. Eddie was all Abe. As was, I believe, the decision to trade the #5 pick to Minny (who turned it into Rubio) for Miller and Foye. Abe was in love with Gilbert and the Big Three and thought he could win with them. I wouldn't be surpised if f he hadn't pased, we would have taken Turner instead of Wall and Gilbert would still be here. (I'm not trying to disparage Abe as a human being. He did a ton of good for the community over the years and he is a local legend. I'm strictly talking (meaningless in the big picture) basketball moves and management.) sly
Na, Vishal lives in Indiana. He's never been to DC in his life. Well, he should probably google the city... then he'd probably understand how the name Monuments relates and "makes sense." What about you? Yes, I've visited Washington DC. I also ate a hog dog for lunch.
