I enjoyed the book, The Guns of the South so much that I ordered How Few Remain, a novel with the premise that the South won the Civil War.

Can't wait to read it!

Something like that.

Not bad, but I just can't get into the UYIs like i can Appetite.  Appetite, they're just a band hell bent on kicking ass and taking names.  THE WORLD'S MOST DANGEROUS BAND.

4 years later, Axl wants to be a poet and swim with dolphins.  And while there are certainly a lot of great songs on UYIs I can't listen to them all the way through without skipping a track like I can on Appetite.

That is what made it a really awesome album, all of the songs at worst "really good/great" to excellent.  The only track I'd ever want to fast forward or skip became Sweet Child of Mine, and that started happening (for me) about 15-20 years after it was released (1988) and was not because it wasn't a great song, but because of just how much that song got played.

Was one of those gems.  But if we are talking not needing to fast forward/skip tracks, I personally have to say that Metallica's first 4 were all like that too, at least for me.  Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice For All.  Hell, one could arguably make the same case for the black album (self titled), but there is always My Friend of Misery that is just weak as hell.  I think the knock against the black album is more against them toning down, but still a near solid album when talking every track being good.  Though, I could see a handful of tracks where the argument could be made to skip them.

That was the only track I listed, but not because the song wasn't a hit.  It just got played so ****ing much and continued to for 10-15 years after it came out.  Put on the radio on a rock station, or any 80s/90s station on Sirius Satellite, I swear it didn't take long for it to come on, if you were in the car long enough, like a 1-2 hour commute or driving on vacation.  Kept popping up in movies too.

I've got no desire to see the Shape of Water, even though it won.  What'd you like about it?

But 3 Billboards was great....and after seeing Infinity War twice this week it was on the other end of the spectrum for me.  I liked Infinity War a lot but I'd much rather watch a movie like 3 Billboards...fantastic acting, some moving parts, some hilarious parts, no CGI, no big explosions...

I liked the acting a lot more than the story.  The story was just...weird.  Plot spoiler but not really because the trailer tells you everything:  A deaf janitor falls in love with a fishman and she tries to break him out of a top secret gov't facility.  That's it, there's nothing more to it.  And at two hours long, it dragged a bit at times.  Your basic "good vs evil" story.

What saved it was the performances.  Sally Hawkins' chemistry with fishman was believable and it made me care about her.  Other than the Paddington movies and remembering her from Layer Cake, I'm not very familiar with Hawkins.  But she was so good in Shape of Water, I'm now a huge fan.  Michael Shannon nailed it as the psychotic villain (no surprise there).  Octavia Spencer and Richard Jenkins did well in supporting roles.  Very simple story and not much in the way of plot twists or jaw-droppers, which I guess left it up to the cast to elevate the film, which they did.

I'm with you on 3 Billboards over Infinity War.  Any day of the week.  I'm all for explosions and Drax one-liners, but give me some character depth and good acting in a drama over action any day.  Dark and depressing or inspiring and uplifting, I love the emotional rollercoaster of a good drama.  The goosebumps from action movies like Infinity War are great, but getting your feelbox tickled by a film like 3 Billboards is much more fulfilling.

Axl....is the best poet of a generation, in his own mind.

Dolphins are cool, but the Estranged video is weird.

I still skip it too, but sometimes I wanna hear that Slash solo.

Yes, I agree on all those Metallica albums.  I don't have beef with the black album but I never really listen to it cause I'm still listening to the first 4 so much.

I might check it out.  I think it's on iTunes for 10 bucks.  That's been my move lately, waiting till prices drop on movies on the Apple TV and then getting them for 10 bucks.  About as cheap or cheaper than a movie ticket, plus I can watch it over and over again if I want and have my own food.

Man, I'm not sure it's worth $10 LOL.  I mean, Shape of Water was solid, but I actually felt all the other Best Picture nominees were better.  Call me By Your Name, Darkest Hour, 3 Billboards, Get Out, Lady Bird, The Post.  Of the 8 Best Picture films, Shape of Water was only better than Dunkirk, IMO.

I guess it is hit or miss though, depending on the person.  I have two fellow movie fanatic buddies at work, one loved Shape of Water, and one hated it LOL.

Barcelona airport check in, security and passport control is about as disorganized as anything I’ve seen.  People going in every direction, questions being asked in at least 15 languages, no sinage of note in any language.

Like a Chinese fire drill blindfolded...

try going to lagos someday.

I was travelling on a diplomatic passport, had both a US marine and Nigerian official escort, and still got propositioned about 10 times, for bribes to do their job, or to get drugs, or to meet a prostitute, and several times i had no idea what they were even offering.... and this was going on all over the place.
