For men in Japan, looking for love isn’t easy. A new survey has revealed that a quarter of them are still virgins by their 30s, and the problem has gotten so widespread, there are courses to designed to help them finally have sex.

One program is called “Virgin Academia,” and it’s run by a man named Shingo Sakatsume. He helps the “able-bodied” improve their viewpoints on sex, and, most importantly teaches relationship skills, Agence France-Presse reported.

Shingo said that sexual images are everywhere in Japan, and yet people don’t really talk about sex and relationships, the Independent added.

“Virgin Academia” hasn’t been widely accepted in Japan’s society; its lectures on how to find a partner, and a three-day boot camp that includes intercourse lessons and guarantees to help men lose their virginity, has met with protest online and in the press, and caught the attention of police. It was shut down.

What remains of this sexual instruction is a life-drawing class, in which men get to sketch naked women and get used to the female body — and understand it. Takashi Sakai, 41, is among the virgins, and found the class very illuminating.

In total, a quarter of married men in Japan are still virgins, so many that they have a special moniker: “yaramiso.” People there don’t have too much nookie to begin with; 50 percent didn’t have sex within the last year, 15 percent within five, Japan Times reported. This may contribute to the nation’s declining birth rate.

Considering I don't see a sexual revolution in Japan's immediate future, I was curious about their immigration policies (maybe get some young guys in there that do want to have sex and maybe kids). I'm not surprised.

Japan’s ‘no immigration principle’ looking as solid as ever

Hidenori Sakanaka’s message is very clear: Only immigration can save Japan. Sakanaka, a former Justice Ministry official and director of the Tokyo Immigration Bureau, proposes bringing in 10 million migrants over 50 years. In making his case for opening up the country, he cites a mountain of demographic evidence, specifically the declining and aging population and the shrinking workforce.

Sakanaka’s proposal is perfectly logical and rational, but what he fails to understand — and this is rather surprising given his bureaucratic background — is that policymaking is rarely based on logic. In fact, policy is often discursively driven: Elite prejudices and public perceptions play a key role in shaping the policymaking process. The result is often policy that can appear irrational, or even contrary to the national interest.

As to the topic, I find these numbers awfully hard to believe. The biological imperative is strong.

I agree with this.  I pretty much laughed this article off because humans have never needed much prodding (or any education) to have sex.  The opposite is true, societies and cultures have always had to take action to restrain them.  I assumed this was a spoof news story.

But Japan is weird, so maybe they went too far down the rabbit hole. :)

I'm living in Japan at the moment and the culture seems to be strangely sexual yet prudish at the same time. You can go into any convenience store here and find a rack full of erotic magazines but it's very strange to even see couples walking hand in hand down the street. Only once have I seen a Japanese couple kissing and I'm pretty sure they were wasted since it was past midnight on a Friday night near a bar. My image of Japan might be a little skewed since I live in a rural prefecture (but not a small city) and those places tend to have more conservative values.

yes... i am positive that this is the lead-in to a movie.

"Young Aiko and Hisako have just completed college, and are ready to start their first jobs .... at an innovative new school, Vigin Academia.    It will be an exciting new school year for both them and their new students...........  <<cut to bad alto sax solo>> "

Japanese are some of the weirdest people on earth. Their culture really makes me scratch my head sometimes.

There must be something in all that seafood (and dolphin) they eat that messes with their minds.

I think they call that mercury poisoning.

What a tragedy. Too many beautiful Japanese women out there for this to go on

I don't think it's just a problem with men in Japan. I think I read somewhere that more and more Japanese women aren't getting some, either. A lot of young women have very little sex drive. It's a total societal issue in Japan, not just a male issue.
