Haven't seen any details yet. 2 minutes ago, tshile said: There are some special rights allowed. retired law enforcement and active law enforcement (and I believe vets) get a nationwide conceal carry permit (law that came with W. Bush post 9-11) it’s a little more strict than a general concealed carry the rest of us have access to. For instance, it lists which guns you’re permitted for and to get one added you must qualify for it, and you have to qualify every year. im sure there’s other exemptions/special rights tied to it. He asked about veterans. You are referring to law enforcement.

But he seemed to ask with the questioning of the idea that some people get more rights than others I was pointing out one way in which they do. And I think vets are included in that one edit: nope just LEOs if I’m reading this right https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_Enforcement_Officers_Safety_Act Edited March 4 by tshile
The Evil Genius
Somehow I think restoring gun rights (I trust they were lost for a good reason) to a segment of the population that experiences high rates of PTSD isn't the smartest option.

I'm not aware of any special federal gun laws specific to veterans. That's why it stuck out to me. Many states have their own rules though.

He is the reason why the United States hasn't passed democracy reform. He is the reason why Donald Trump is still able to run for office (he had the opportunity to end this nightmare but didn't). Mitch McConnell is the reason why Roe v. Wade was overturned, and why IVF is now illegal in Alabama. McConnell is responsible for turning the U.S. Senate into the House of Representatives. McConnell has never been a friend to labor, the environment, or responsive to climate change. History, if it remembers him, will remember him for the things he did, and the things he prevented. China
Speaker Johnson urges GOP lawmakers to maintain decorum at State of the Union Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is urging GOP lawmakers to maintain decorum when President Biden delivers his State of the Union address Thursday night, after Republicans had a number of outbursts during last year’s speech. Johnson made the request during a closed-door GOP conference meeting Wednesday morning, three Republican lawmakers who attended the gathering told The Hill. “Decorum is the order of the day,” Johnson told members, according to one lawmaker. “He said we should carry ourselves with good decorum,” another member said. The plea from Johnson came one day before Biden is scheduled to deliver his State of the Union address to a divided Congress that includes many of his foremost Republican critics. That dynamic was on full display last year, when some GOP lawmakers heckled the president throughout his speech in the House chamber. Cries of “secure the border” were heard at one point during the speech, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called Biden a “liar” when he was discussing potential cuts to Social Security and Medicare as part of a deal on the debt limit. Fergasun
Surprised the GOP gave up the "NEXT TIME WE'LL GET BUDGET CONCESSIONS" game. You really have to start getting into FY25 appropriations now. Of course the elections will drive how that turns out.

China
On 5/18/2023 at 1:56 PM, China said: Legislation to Mandate AM in Cars Is Introduced in Congress There is some good news for AM for a change today. Bills have been introduced in both houses that would protect the presence of free AM radio in cars. The bills are being pushed by prominent members of both political parties and have backing from the chairwoman of the FCC. The “AM for Every Vehicle Act” would direct federal regulators to require automakers to maintain AM broadcast radio in their new vehicles at no additional charge. The National Association of Broadcasters welcomed the move, which is also backed by the National Association of Farm Broadcasting. Senators Ed Markey, a Democrat, and Ted Cruz, a Republican, are the headliners, but the sponsors also include Sens. Tammy Baldwin, Deb Fischer, Ben Ray Luján and J.D. Vance, as well as Reps. Josh Gottheimer, Bruce Westerman, Tom Kean Jr., Rob Menendez and Maria Gluesenkamp Perez. The act would direct the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue a rule requiring automakers to maintain AM broadcast radio in their vehicles without a separate or additional payment, fee or surcharge. It says AM should be clearly visible on the vehicle’s dashboard; and until the new standard would take effect, cars lacking AM radio receivers would have to be labeled as such for buyers. That’s the message from politicians who are closing in on the required number of votes needed to pass federal legislation that requires AM radios in every new car. The prevalence of AM broadcast radio has dipped in recent decades as more listeners turn to options such as satellite radio and podcasts during drivetime. But a large, bipartisan group of lawmakers believes saving the AM dial is critical to public safety, especially in rural America, and they want to ensure access to it via car radios. “The emergency alert system works on the AM spectrum - that’s where people get information about emergencies,” said independent Sen. Angus King of Maine. “It’s a critical source of information, particularly in rural areas that might not have clear access to an FM signal.” King, and Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins, are among dozens of lawmakers supporting the AM for Every Vehicle Act. Lawmakers first proposed the legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate last year, and it has gained a wave of new cosponsors in recent weeks. There are now enough cosponsors to pass the bill in the House, and the Senate is only a few sponsors away, federal records state.
