I try hard not to care about this kinda stuff, as I feel like its a waste of our collective time as a society. We could be doing so much more lol

But also I think she's hot. And I'm not into big chicks at all (cause, physics. I'm a big man, big on big gives me less room to play if you get my drift) but she's hot at least in that pic. Thats all my input. I have no idea how to feel about the other storylines in play as I kinda get both. But also who ****ing cares really? People need to talk about other ****

she walks into a club and a lot of dudes talking **** would be all over her.

Sports magazines have been transitioning away from softcore porn for frat boys to celebrations of beauty in all its forms for years now. I'm old enough to remember when female athletes who posed "nude" for mags like ESPN were criticized for having too much muscle instead of looking softer and more "feminine". To me, this is nothing...I think she's gorgeous, though.

Also, while we're here, I'm tired of male bodies being objectified in cologne commercials, underwear commercials and any other media where male models are being hired.

It's high time that average looking men are represented.  I don't want to see a guy with six pack abs and dinner plate pecs anymore with a full head of hair and a defined jaw line.  I want male models to be 45 pounds overweight with a beer gut and to look like they haven't done a push-up since middle school.  Their jaws should blend in nicely with their double chin and neck and they should all have male-pattern baldness.

I'm tired of feeling lesser-than because I don't live up to society's beauty standards for males.  Don't judge me for eating 3 donuts this morning, accept my body for what it is, society.

Are you kidding...there was a time there where we had it easy. For a decade or more, every sitcom seemed to have a doofy, fat dude with an inexplicably more attractive wife or girlfriend. The only one that comes to mind (but I know there are more and I don't feel like researching) is King of Queens.

Damn bro why you trying to put me out of work?

in all seriousness, the same standard should apply to men too, and I think it often does in society, at least more than women. Dad bods are in. We are all aware of the sitcom dad with the model wife. Every Adam Sandler movie etc. it’s far more acceptable imo for a man to be out of shape generally speaking

Oh, you beat me to it. hahaha

No, THIS is what I was talking joking about:

Now, if you want Kevin James in an ad like this, shirtless, I'm all for it.

Yeah I really don't get all the hubbub. SI has a plus size model on its cover. The horror. Who gives a ****? Do people really have nothing better to whine about?

But it's a good point, if they're all for "body positivity" here, leave the stretch marks.

That was my point. It was playing off your post. They’re all about natural people but they edit them just as much.

🤷‍♂️ doesn’t matter to me but it does make me chuckle

Not my thing. But, we've normalized obesity, so why not put it on the cover? Everything is beautiful now.
It's a severe heath hazard, people are gorging themselves to death on junk, we do nothing about it, and they don't change their habits and 'food' companies actively look for better ways to fool us into ingesting as much of the worst as we can possibly handle.

We pay higher insurance rates, and the numbers of problems that come as a result (that we all absorb the cost of) just multiplies as the pounds lay on.
I have no problem with people wanting to be comfortable with who they are. I'm no model by any stretch. But this is a serious problem for many more reasons than I don't want to see a fat girl in a bikini. In my mind it is not much different than smokers. Addictions are hard to break and cheap and easy foods are an addiction.
And honestly, down here where I live, the overwhelming majority of people are obese, and not just by a little bit. Whenever I am in public I am literally astounded by the sheer numbers of people who are easily 50+ lbs overweight.
I'm against normalizing this. Something should be done to encourage better choices beyond cute tv cartoon commercials. Smokers pay higher insurance rates. Do morbidly obese people, or is that considered "pre-existing"? I honestly don't know.

I didn't say models, I said that tub of lard.  Hot chicks don't get gas, I guess.

Especially the amount of gas ole girl probably has.

I have been very open about my appreciation for the male form, and on many occasions.

For example, I consider this to be “peak physical performance”.

I really don't care as I haven't purchased the swimsuit issue of Sport Illustrated in like 20 years (I am 39) so I am not going to buy the magazine regardless of what model they have.  That said given that the magazine in general and the swimsuit issue in particular is aimed at men and men probably prefer slimmer women, it doesn't seem like a smart decision, but there will be a novelty factor, so maybe it will work.

The model is definitely obese but she stores her fat very evenly so it doesn't look horrible on her and she has a pretty face.  The thing is most women with that model's BMI are not going to look that anywhere near that good in a swimsuit.

I don't disagree...but what's the harm in discussing non-code red topics sometimes? I don't think everything needs to be do-or-die to be interesting conversations.

I probably should have been more precise. I don't mean it's something that nobody can talk about. I just mean it being some huge deal in society and something that apparently is a priority issue to some people. Nothing wrong with discussing it in here or in general, I just don't understand people who make this sort of non-code red issue into a code-red one.

There is a happy medium between "aspiring to Barbie body types" and "fat is beautiful, too".

We have to figure out how to clarify that being obese is dangerous even if the person is still gorgeous.

There's a fine line between fat shaming and being scientifically accurate with respect to where heart disease ranks as a leading cause of death in the US.

This didn't used to be this complicated, but I don't know any other way to say that encouraging taking pride in being dangerously obese (not saying lady in OP is) is a bad bad idea that is not worth the likes or good publicity some of these organizations are shooting for.

Don't leave people out, but don't leave the facts out either with respect to health statistics.  What is obese needs to be up for review, what it does to our bodies is pretty settled "debate" at this point I thought.

If SI puts Lizzo on the cover, perhaps then we can start the conversation of whether or not it's 'glorifying obesity'.  This chick is tall and chubby.  If I were to just read some of the comments without seeing the pictures, I'd assume she's a beluga whale.

I'm not trying to nitpick, but I do think that calling someone who's under 6' tall and over 240 pounds (unless they are playing SS or MLB) "chubby" is part of a much larger "sliding scale" problem in our country. I don't really care about the magazine cover or bikini, but pretending that this woman is just a bit heavier than she should be rather than obese is a big issue. I saw a statistic the other day that from 1996-2016 our obesity rate had tripled. This is a symptom of that.

Anyway, I don't mean to overreact, but there's a bigger issue in there somewhere...regardless of how much you care about who graces the cover of SI.

I'm not pretending anything - I'm just saying some of you act like she's a freaking cow who is going to die of heart disease tomorrow, when you know absolutely nothing about her biometrics.  I'm well aware there is a problem with obesity in this country for a variety of reasons, but pardon me for considering this being used as some type of proof to be overly dramatic.
