He should never have posted it.  It killed any bit of credibility he had for being a responsible steward of the so-called "public square."

Yeah, though it was completely on-brand. I would have been way more shocked at seeing Elon suddenly turn into a responsible and credible adult than at seeing him post another right wing conspiracy meme like an 8 year old internet troll.

Anyone expecting Elon to suddenly change is just as delusional as someone who expected Donald Trump to suddenly change once he became POTUS.

Maybe the Elon bashing regarding Twitter is overwrought, I said.  I told myself to keep an open mind regarding the takeover. It took him all of a couple days for him to **** on that notion and smear it all over the office walls.

Scoop: Musk team working to reboot Vine this year

Elon Musk has instructed Twitter engineers to work on a Vine reboot that could be ready by year end, multiple sources tell Axios.

Why it matters: Twitter shuttered the looping-video app in 2016 after acquiring it four years earlier, leaving loyal Vine fans dismayed.

Twitter reportedly tried to sell Vine shortly after.

Details: Twitter engineers already have been assigned to look at Vine's old code base, which hasn't been changed or updated since the shutdown.

One source says "it needs a lot of work."

Twitter has introduced new video features since 2016, but reviving Vine could give video creators a platform that sits somewhat apart from general Twitter discourse.

Between the lines: Musk is said to have discussed Vine in the months leading up to his Twitter acquisition, and on Sunday launched a Twitter poll asking if he should bring it back. Responses were running about 2-1 in favor, as of this writing.

Top European official: if Twitter ignores the law, penalties will 'haunt' Elon Musk

The European Union's competition czar has a message for Twitter's new boss Elon Musk: We are watching you.

Since the Tesla CEO took ownership of the social network last week promising, among other changes, to loosen up rules around what people can post to Twitter, authorities in Europe have been standing by for any signs that Twitter may run afoul of European speech laws.

"There is a European rulebook, and you should live by it," said Margrethe Vestager, the European Commission's executive vice president who oversees digital policy for the 27-nation bloc, in her first interview since Musk took over Twitter. "Otherwise, we have the penalties. We have the fines. We have all the assessments and all the decisions that will come to haunt you."

A new European law known as the Digital Services Act forces tech companies to quickly remove posts considered illegal in the countries where the content appears. It also requires that tech companies provide users with information about how their algorithms work.

On top of that, the law requires that large online platforms like Twitter be audited by outside experts to assess how harmful material, like the spread of disinformation, is being handled.

"They will have to make a systemic assessment of their services, whether they can be hijacked for undermining democracy or other harmful practices, or is the service itself harmful for people no matter their terms of service?" Vestager said.

If tech companies fail to abide by the law, European officials can levy fines of up to 6% of annual worldwide revenue. In 2021, Twitter's revenue was about $5 billion, making the maximum possible penalty under the law in the ballpark of $300 million.

The blue check marks are really the only thing that adds value to Twitter. It keeps it from being the Wild Wild West where Joe Citizen can pretend he's Stephen King.

When you monopolize that, ansd celebs say **** you to a fee, you don't double down. But Elon gonna Elon and Twitter will go in the ****ter earlier than expected.

Haha! Said the liberals would run away from Twitter if the maga chuds started to try and take over and so many here said I was wrong. Twitter is NOT a stable of our institution, it has not been around for long or even prevalent for long, it can and will be abandoned and it can and will die. Liberals will move on to the next hot thing and republicans will be looking in, faces on the glass, begging to be apart of it.

Remember those movies where an older sibling would have their friends over and the little brother would constantly bug the older sibling's friends? You know, insert themselves in the group, tell the parents on them, jump out of the closet with a squirt gun or try to peek at the friend's boobs. That is the GOP voter base. They say they hate liberals, don't want to be around us, but the really, truly need us. They don't only need us to sustain their ever failing red states, but they need us emotionally. They really want to be like us, they're they uncool kid looking at the cool kid's table and being bitter that they can't sit with us. However, they're too stupid to realize that they're welcome to sit with us, but you just can't act like an asshole.

No GOP run social site will ever work because maga chuds need liberals' reactions to entertain themselves, yet liberals have no interest in mingling with the lower dregs of society. So, like I said, go ahead and take Twitter, Another will come along and just like Facebook and Twitter, it will take several years for the chuds to get to it and by them the liberals will move on to the next one.

I have a twitter account, but only use it to read comments on the tweets posted here. The chuds already ruined Facebook for me years ago, I really wish there were a liberals only social media site.
