The Unofficial "Elon Musk trying to "Save Everyone" from Themselves (except his Step-Sister)" Thread...

I'm assuming I'm the only one who thinks a lot of this is hysterical?  My twitter is set to follow football, baseball, music, parody accounts and anything else that doesn't have to deal with social agendas, politics, news, etc, strictly because I think trying to read/discuss serious **** in 280 characters is a fool's errand.  No, I don't want to read some jerkoff's 25 tweet thread about the J6 hearings or another litany of tweets about Covid or a tweetstorm about Ukraine and Russia BECAUSE TWITTER IS NOT MADE FOR LONGFORM WRITING.  Or even a short essay.

I'm not sure how it came up on my feed, but I find this stuff insufferable:

Meanwhile:

Which made me laugh.  He just doesn't give a ****.

I don't use Twitter, but I'm pretty sure you can use it to link to your article that is longform writing (or even a short essay).

For me, it’s not so much that Musk is going to destroy Twitter, that part is funny, or, I mean, who cares? It’s that he is going to destroy his self, as a brand. Three years ago Musk was an inspiration to most, now he is divisive, through his own actions. And when he has an opportunity to back out of a dumb thing he said (we all say dumb things) he takes the opportunity to double down on it.

In order to achieve what he wants to achieve he is going to have to work with the people he is alienating.

Twitter Exploring 'Paywalled Video' Which Would Obviously Be Flooded With Porn

Twitter is working on a new feature dubbed “Paywalled Video,” which would allow users to charge money for access to videos, according to a new report from the Washington Post. And while the Post waits eight paragraphs to state the obvious, using the kind of euphemisms you’d expect in a respectable newspaper, Gizmodo can afford to be more blunt. It’s for porn. People on Twitter are going to charge for porn.

“When a creator composes a tweet with a video, the creator can enable the paywall once a video has been added to the tweet,” an internal email about the new feature explains, according to the Post.

I don't care if he destroys twitter or not.  Frankly, I wouldn't mind at all if he did.

And if he wants to destroy his own brand, that's fine, too.  Clearly he doesn't give a ****, why should I?

In other words, what's the point of having "**** you" money if you never say "**** you"?

You can, but sometimes it's behind a paywall.  And I don't mind paying for good journalism but at the same time I'm not trying to have a bunch of different subscriptions because I saw something on Twitter that I wanted to read.

Speaking only for myself, it’s hard for me to get all riled with this Spiff/Musk “**** you money” hot takes idea when I’m smoking doobies and crushing room service mimosas from my balcony at the Key Biscayne Ritz-Carlton.  I think Steve Nash is coming by later…

Haha! Said the liberals would run away from Twitter if the maga chuds started to try and take over and so many here said I was wrong. Twitter is NOT a stable of our institution, it has not been around for long or even prevalent for long, it can and will be abandoned and it can and will die. Liberals will move on to the next hot thing and republicans will be looking in, faces on the glass, begging to be apart of it.

Remember those movies where an older sibling would have their friends over and the little brother would constantly bug the older sibling's friends? You know, insert themselves in the group, tell the parents on them, jump out of the closet with a squirt gun or try to peek at the friend's boobs. That is the GOP voter base. They say they hate liberals, don't want to be around us, but the really, truly need us. They don't only need us to sustain their ever failing red states, but they need us emotionally. They really want to be like us, they're they uncool kid looking at the cool kid's table and being bitter that they can't sit with us. However, they're too stupid to realize that they're welcome to sit with us, but you just can't act like an asshole.

No GOP run social site will ever work because maga chuds need liberals' reactions to entertain themselves, yet liberals have no interest in mingling with the lower dregs of society. So, like I said, go ahead and take Twitter, Another will come along and just like Facebook and Twitter, it will take several years for the chuds to get to it and by them the liberals will move on to the next one.

I have a twitter account, but only use it to read comments on the tweets posted here. The chuds already ruined Facebook for me years ago, I really wish there were a liberals only social media site.

Wow as a recovering annoying little brother I wish I could dispute that analogy.

(But I can't.)

Ad giant IPG advises brands to pause Twitter spending after Musk takeover

Advertising giant Interpublic Group has recommended that clients of its IPG Media Brands agencies suspend all paid advertising on Twitter for at least a week following Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of the social media network.

According to a person familiar with the matter, the firm is telling its clients — who may independently choose to keep advertising on Twitter — to wait for clarity on the social network’s plans for trust and safety, and to see whether Musk will be able to prevent Twitter from becoming, as he called it, a “free-for-all hellscape.”

Some of the agencies’ clients include CVS Pharmacy, Nintendo and Unilever. These companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the recommendation.

Morning Brew contributor Ryan Barwick first reported on the ad giant’s recommendation to IPG Media Brands clients, citing an e-mail sent by MAGNA, a media intelligence business that is part of the group.

They'll be back in a month. Just like companies saying they'd pause donating money to Republicans after Jan 6th or how they'd donate money to black owned businesses and scholarships after the 2020 protests. 🙄

What's different about this is the eyeballs. If there are fewer eyeballs, the ad revenue shrinks. Period. This is why it's important for those of us on Twitter to leave. I've set my exit trigger as the reinstatement of Tя☭mp...or if Musk does something equally as crazy before that happens. I'm on a hair trigger right now, just waiting for the right thing to pop off to hit the delete button.
