You get where I am going though?

Do we see this team operating with more than 2 LBs for a majority of defensive plays?

Payne is one of the best run defenders at his position with great depth at DT and the edge rushers are both great run defenders. The strength of the front four defending the run allows you to get that extra safety on the field most of the time, occasionally playing 'heavier' with a LB like Hudson, but rarely needing to.

So, a 4-2-5 defense ?

Or a 5-2-4 ?

You're on the right track.

DCs sometimes struggle adapting to the talent. That's not the case here. Plenty of situational plays, but the best 11 at any given time will get their time.

Whether it's 5 DL or 5 DB depending on situation, I think there are a lot of options before you have to start reaching deep into the LB room.

Heck, we've seen Payne play well dropping in zone. You can use one of Sweat, Payne or Young in a 5 front to spy on the QB/RB and not be hurt the way they've been with Bostic covering. I honestly believe that.

Yea, that's where JDR's unique coaching traits come into play. Unique, especially compared to our own history of DC's.

JDR absolutely seems like the type of coach to adapt his scheme to his players, rather than try to force his players to adapt to an unchangeable "What we do, works" philosophy.

I'm so excited for this defense. Legit starters and rotation at every position.

If you reeaally wanna rustle some feathers, refer to OTA's as Optional Training Activities, instead of "Offseason"

I always thought that OTA stood for Organized Team Activities, 🤷‍♂️.

I'm in the boat where I think if he's your #2 (which he basically was last year), you're in trouble, but if he's your #4, you're perfectly fine.

Not to split hairs but, "perfectly fine" is far from the truth.  At the very least, that's not how RR sees it!  Given the the addition of (4) new receivers this offseason, I think any hold-over not named McLaurin has a serious uphill battle to make the 53.

I was gonna but my reputation is still sliding from when @Jumbo hacked my account and started the both sides of the ball debacle earlier. I cant risk it.

The old "Jumbo ate my homework" excuse...always a classic.

and depth...almost everywhere.

So if someone's not carrying their weight - or if someone gets hurt, it's not necessarily a devastating blow.

We did, until we unfortunately had to cut Chase Young for skipping Obligatory Team Activities.

Stopping the run is all Bust Young is good for.  Can't pressure, get sacks, force or recover fumbles, or draw double teams, and we all know he has no idea what to do with the ball in his hands.  Zero -- ZERO -- safeties!  We used the 2nd overall pick in the draft on a run stuffer!  This franchise is doomed!  The whole team is a bust!  Quick, trade BY and a three future #1s for a junior who started one season of college ball.  And throw in Ionitis and Allen, because we're doomed if we don't.  I can't bear to watch this fall apart.  How're the Orioles doing?

I get where you are coming from, I'm just saying that Sims plays like a WR4 to me, and that's where he may fall (I don't think of Humpries as being ahead of Sims because Sims is an outside guy).  There's little doubt that 3 of the top 4 WR spots have been filled through free agency and the draft, but I don't think the 7th rounder or the return specialist is a lock over all the incumbents by any stretch.  To your point, there was an extremely concerted effort to revamp this position, but there's going to be a holdover I think one way or the other (to which my preference is Sims or Harmon, whoever they think is better).

Maybe contact football is not for you then. :P

I feel him though, I want so badly for this roster to make it to Week 1 completely healthy.  It'll never happen, but it's nice to dream.

Can't play scared no matter when it is during the season. **** happens but you still have to play to your full potential though.
