Feeling this type of hollow defeat on the one weekend of the year that every teams’ fans are supposed to be able to dream of the future with hopeful stars in their eyes is just…soul-crushing. Makes me want to quit way more than any MNF divisional beatdown, personally

Yeah it's tough to keep up my interest and enthusiasm in the draft when I don't really believe in the FO.

Ron has demonstrated an infuriating pattern of running off prominent members of our organization and then replacing them with a worse version.  Kyle Smith to Martin Mayhew/Hurney.  Trent Williams to Charles Leno.  Brandon Scherff to Andrew Norwell.  Kevin O'Connell to Scott Turner.  Now Daron Payne to Phidarian Mathis.  And let's hope we didn't just do the same to Terry McLaurin.

We didn't have a lot of quality in this organization before he got here, but he's losing it and we're steadily falling behind.  We need some home runs that can stop the bleeding.

Ron's assembled a regime that clearly prioritizes need over true value.  3rd time they've done this.

They botched the Payne / DT situation, created a gaping need at DT when there wasn't one, and now just wasted a 2nd rounder on a 4th round prospect.

As I said in a post a few days ago: this is why this organization never wins; why it keeps spinning in place.   We're a "Finger-in-the-Dike" organization.  We never really build anything.  We create problems where there aren't any and then have to fill that need.

Just an unbelievable waste of a 2nd round pick.  I'm going to laugh watching Ron and Co. try to justify this horrid pick.

Funny enough, before the pick I - and plenty of people on the board - were figuring they'd somehow screw this pick up.  Sure enough....

Hang it in the Louvre

Just because you're in a place where you can discuss it doesn't mean anyone's got to take you seriously

Not trying to be a dick but why are you in this thread? I mean it is for people to give their take on College players and runs the entire season. If you dont value that input why come here?

I realize this is a place to talk about the draft but you guys crack me up and this time of year NFL fans go whacko. You know nothing about these guys, what other teams thought of them, their personalities, what their current college coach or players think of them, what they were asked to do in a scheme, and then to top it off 99% of you dont really know what your looking at anyway. Hey but some guy on espn who is really a marketing genius not a personal genius says it was a reach or a bad pick so lets get upset.

What's your qualifications to make this kind of judgement? What successful NFL front office do you work for? Or are you a Division I scout?

Did you just post this from 2006? What the **** is this deference to the FO about

Where have I said that? You either like it or you don’t? I really couldn’t care less either way but to suggest your opinion is only valid if you have some kind of NFL scouting experience when commenting on a fan forum is laughable

Yeah I'm not entirely sure what people expect others to do in a football forum other than...express opinions on football. You don't have to be a pro scout or coach to have an opinion on something.

Least Ron brought in that culture change though!

Guys doing pushups on their knuckles!!

PS:  Anyone acting like these scouts are some kind of genuines are really reaching.  They are guessing the same as any of us would.  I've seen plenty of people on this board that are very solid at evaluting players.

I will say this… the reaction over the player is too negative. He’s solid. He’ll plug holes, do his job. He’s a space eater and he’s really freakin good at it. Again, I have him overall ranked 50. But my board doesn’t account for value/team needs, etc.

He’s not as good as Travis Jones.

But this felt like a panic move.

that’s the issue. I think the range was fine for someone given Jones was off the board and their FO didn’t let their entire DT rotation hit the bricks.

I think that’s my issue here. Now that I’m thinking about it more.

But as for the player? He’ll be solid. Not going to make anyone jump from their seat. But he’s good. Steady.

Now everyone who trashed me for hating on our trade back please explain to me how u have any sense of confidence that this FO is going to find something in the late rounds. Look back at these guys’ track record, they draft poorly. One of the worst drafts in the league last year and we’re on par for that again.

But we got two extra 4th rd picks… such a terrible mindset

you know, if we needed to get Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson as our upgraded QB this offseason to be a sgnificant upgrade, then maybe people needed to be less demanding on getting a new one.  Cause I feel like we could have had 8 wins under Heinike last year with just a little luck.  But people were like anyone would be better.  Until we got anyone

what the **** are you posting about in here. go to bed man

This pick is a bit of a headscratcher. Makes me think we are in fact looking to offload Payne in this draft.  Because if you aren’t, you have some time to backfill the position and didn’t have to reach for a solid if underwhelming position/player.

100% Tampa is going to trade for Payne. It just makes too much sense.

Yeh, we’re on a forum discussing draft picks bro, that kinda comment doesn’t wash

Unless that’s you Ron? Ron? Is that you?

That's fine,  but you weren't really discussing the draft picks themselves, only claiming matter of factly that our front office is basically trash. I just wanted to know what your qualifications were for making this kind of judgment before any of the players we've drafted have played a down.

I assume you must work in the business to have that kind of confidence. So, what front office do you work in?

I said it earlier. I like the player. He is 69 on my board. So maybe they went BPA off of their board. And we did have a need to fix the decimated DT room.

Agreed. We drafted Payne with a 1st rounder and I dont see him being that far off from what Payne gave us.
