Why? RR typically carrys 4 RB unlike Jay who only carried 3 most of the time. AP, Love, Guice, and now Barber. That makes 4. And it makes good sense, not ot mention he is almost free. $600k gauranteed? They can cut him it will not hurt.

I like the signing.

We also signed McKissic. No biggie, but this signing should make that a more competitive situation.

We also got that McKissick guy or whatever.  A scat back, but a back nonetheless.

Need competition in camp. Again, at $600k you can cut him and it's not big deal. Now had they signed him to $3 or $4M/yr fully gauranteed that would be different. I like this one though.

Except none of those 4 are what one would call a 3rd down back (Mckissic our other RB does though).

basically we have NFL caliber backups if our two RBs with knee injury history don't show up or Adrian Peterson shows his age

I am well aware of that. So??  We can only have 4 RBs on a 90 man roster???  All low $ contracts. I like these kind of signings. You need camp bodies too.

Love is and since no one thinks I know it - let me be clear  I am very well away we signed McKissic!!!!!  Good grief people. It's oneplayer!!  LOL    It's 90 man roster time. They are going to sign players. They are giving Barber $600k gauranteed!  It's almost free. Relax some guys.

Why not just bring back Chris Thompson? If we have 4 injury prone RB I’m sure we can string together 16 games out of them.

TThompson cost a lot more and now that Jay is gone may not want to be in Wash.

Not directed at you - just a jump off point:

Not sure why people get freaked over these small signings. They need 90 bodies in camp. They can have some overlap. It's called competition. Good to have at every position. Again, it's all minor money in NFL terms. Nothing wrong with this signing.

My first thought was there is already more that 4 RB's on the roster and my understanding was a 2 year deal. Normally 2 year deals mean guaranteed money normally which feels like throw away when you can pick up RB's cheaper via FA or in the draft

Also expecting DB's at this point...the signing threw me

https://www.si.com/nfl/redskins/news/source-dunbar-didnt-want-mega-dollars

From what I understand, Dunbar was NOT looking for a top-of-the-market deal as I had wondered about.

Per the source - Dunbar was looking for a raise that was roughly double his 2020 salary and did not want an extension. He wasn't even sure he wanted to stay in Washington long-term.

He did not want $10 million dollars for 2020 or $14 million, as I speculated.

He wanted a raise in 2020 and the ability to hit free agency in 2021.

Dunbar was apparently willing to risk his financial future in exchange for the freedom to leave in 2021 and by getting a good bump now.

Apparently - he was told no chance. From what I understand, Dunbar was even willing to take a smaller raise along with a boosted incentive structure based on playtime incentives.

Perhaps it was Rivera's way of testing Dunbar? He wanted to see how he would react.

If that's true, Dunbar fell right into the trap and ate the cheese.

He consistently unloaded and vented his frustrations and Rivera along with Kyle Smith decided that they had enough.

The Redskins wouldn't budge and Dunbar wouldn't bury his frustration, either.

He might get a contract extension in Seattle once the deal becomes official (it's not signed off on as of now) or he might choose to wait.

It will be interesting to see what happens if the Seahawks choose to delay giving Dunbar a raise. He's played his trump card for now and he doesn't have much (if any) leverage right now.

The Redskins determined that their culture change was much more important than being patient with a young player who handled the situation poorly (in public) but who was one of the rare success stories.

That's mostly understandable. Especially with a new sheriff in town and willing to take a  lower return to clean house.

It just all seems like a waste of time, you know who Mcassaic is and you know who Barber is. We also know what we have in house at RB. We haven’t done much to help out the secondary. I’d rather we be bringing in cheap guys on the fly in that position.

Ok looked up Loves receiving stats - no he's not a 3rd down type of back. About the same as Juice coming out of college (20 receptions in his last season - in contrast McKissik had 52 in his senior year).

So unless we carry 5 RBs - one of AP, Guice, Love or Barber will not make the active roster.

Yea, if you just see 2 yr deal I could see that. Means he is a most likely a lock for the roster. But it's just $600k guaranteed. So they could send him packing with little impact.

So he wanted the team to void the last year of his contract, give him twice as much money and only give him one year?

Are they done yet? It's less than a week into free agency. There is plenty of time. Let's have a little patience - never mind this is Extreme Skins 🙂

Ok.  But camp bodies don’t usually win games.  We could get un-drafted camp bodies.  Steven Sims was un-drafted, and he was our second best receiver.

Both can do more on 3rd down. Also, having a 3rd dw specialist is not moving away. I still could care less. You guys are making something out of absolutely nothing. It'[s a nothing contract to Barber. McKissic is not much more. So who cares? They need 90 in camp.

Jack **** fella but my prediction on us not carrying 5 running backs is spot on and for me we shouldn’t be cutting either Guice or Love period

I am sure we will hear more but just maybe Love and/or Guice is not expected to be ready to go?

Again you guys are losing your **** (not literally, a figure of speech) over a guy they signed in March. Why becasue he is not a 4 time pro-bowler? Those cost money. Let's give them more than a single minute to see what they are doing . They clearly have a plan. It's 1 week into free agency and you guys are all pissed becasue they signed a guy for $600k guaranteed?

I am done here. You all are too funny. Carry on. I like the signing. Makes perfect sense to me. Not changing my mind.

Listening to Keim's podcast today, and it made me think that the Skins could've been nasty with this and dealt Dunbar to a team that would've been a less ideal fit for him. Instead of sending him to purgatory, Rivera and Smith traded him to Seattle, which is a helluva prime destination for Dunbar; excellent fit for what they like in the corners and what they like to do with their corners.
