No Excuses

I've landed plenty of jets on aircraft carriers in Top Gun for the NES. I'm confident I'd have no problems landing a passenger airplane.

Actually, I've watched a video from an actual pilot.

He said that if the airplane was made in the last 10 years or so, the airplane can land itself. It's a safety device, for use in zero visibility.

Said that yes, it would take a while to teach a civilian how to turn it on. But that's something that can be explained by radio.

Coronavirus found in samples from 96% of flights

If you believe it's now safe to fly without a protective mask, you might want to think again. New research shows the COVID-19 virus has been found on nearly every flight tested.

Scientists who analyzed wastewater samples taken from 29 flights in Kuala Lumpur have found the coronavirus in 28 of them, according to the National Public Health Laboratory Malaysia. Testing on the 29th sample has not yet been completed, per the laboratory.

The samples were taken at international entry points from June through December 2022. During the same time frame, the lab also tested 301 samples from 15 sentinel locations representing each state in the country.

All totaled, "SarsCoV-2 was detected in 288 samples," or 95.7% of all flights, health director-general Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement to Malaysian newspaper Sinar Harian.

I wonder what the results would be for similar testing in the US?

I've only taken day trips to St. John myself while staying at St. Thomas, but would like to stay there at some point.  St. John beaches are NICE.  I'd highly recommend renting a car if you hadn't planned on it yet.

We're picking up a car in St Thomas actually and then taking the ferry over.  Did the three 20 years ago and enjoyed St John's the most.

Hell yeah that is what we do for the day trips. It's awesome how you can take your car on the barge and explore the island.  We've only ever explored the park and various beaches but would like to also stay on St. John and check out the rest of the island.

I will say though, Maegan's Bay on St. Thomas is one of the nicest beaches I have ever been to.  I'm assuming you have been there when you stayed in St. Thomas.  But many of the beaches in the park are very close to it.  Also if you have your own snorkel gear, at Trunk Bay, swim out around the little rock island.  There is some good snorkeling out there.  We saw like a 5ft shark out there last time I was there.  Super cool.

Meagan's bay is a site to behold.  Consistently top ten on world wide beach listicles.  This time we're looking for low key, low population beauty.  St John's is that.  Guided Hike next week through Virgin Islands national Park will be a highlight.

We (I) decided that we're not spending another Thanksgiving alone. I got lucky & was able to snag the Westin in St. John for 10 days over Thanksgiving - half in a studio & half in 1BR. I might split it & spend half the time on Tortola. I'm open to hotel recommendations for Tortola.

We're heading to Barbados in February for 10 days. Can't wait...

Buttigieg: Feds Not Ruling Out 'Nefarious Activity' In FAA System Failure

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said federal authorities are not dismissing the possibility of “nefarious activity” in a computer system failure that grounded domestic flights early Wednesday.

“There is no direct indication of any kind of external or nefarious activity, but we are not yet prepared to rule that out,” he said in an interview with MSNBC.

Buttigieg said the Federal Aviation Administration is continuing to investigate the issue, which occurred in its Notice to Air Missions system. NOTAM provides safety information to flight crews ahead of takeoff.

Bodycam video shows Odell Beckham Jr. being escorted off plane https://www.cbsnews.com/news/odell-beckham-jr-plane-bodycam-video-first-class-miami-police-footage/

As passengers exit, Beckham Jr. gets in a verbal argument with one man. "I would never ever in my life get off the plane for you, not specifically you," he says. "Maybe for everybody else I would get off the plane."

"You're going to wait 40 minutes, and I'm going get on a private plane home," he says to the man, calling the man a "fat a**." Before Beckham Jr. gets off the plane, he tells officers "do let me walk by him," describing the man he argued with.

The engineer who brought America to its knees - the FAA flight grounding debacle that stranded tens of thousands for hours and paralyzed the nation was caused by ONE employee who replaced the wrong file

The grounding of all flights and Federal Aviation Administration systems failure that occurred Wednesday morning across the United States was caused by a mistake made by an engineer.

An engineer 'replaced one file with another,' an official told ABC News, not realizing the mistake was being made and ultimately causing the system to show problems and fail.

The culprit engineer has yet to be identified.

Engineers and IT teams are working feverishly to prevent the system from crashing again today, as they also scramble to figure out if there are any similar systems that could fail as easily.

Agencies investigate averted plane crash at New York airport

Officials are investigating a close call at a New York airport Friday night between a plane that was crossing a runway and another that was preparing for takeoff.

"(Expletive)! Delta 1943, cancel takeoff clearance! Delta 1943, cancel takeoff clearance!” an air controller said in an audio recording of Air Traffic Control communications when he noticed the other plane, operated by American Airlines, crossing in front. The recording was made by LiveATC, a website that monitors and posts flight communications.

Delta Air Lines' departing Boeing 737 plane then came to a safe stop on the John F. Kennedy International Airport runway as the other crossed in front around 8:45 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

Brian Healy, a passenger on the Delta flight, said at first he thought the abrupt stop was a mechanical issue.

“There was this abrupt jerk of the plane, and everyone was sort of thrust forward from the waist,” he recalled. “There was an audible reaction when the brakes happened, like a gasp. And then there was a total silence for a couple of seconds.”
