  1. 1. How many years will the new XFL last?

    • 0 years - will never get started up in 2020
      3
    • 1 year - will fold after one season just like the first time around
      4
    • 2 years - will be slightly better than the first time, make it a second season, but fold after that
      5
    • 3 years - better quality product, will go three seasons, but due to poor decisions (expansion, rule changes, etc.) will fold after that
      1
    • 4+ years - solid product was developed and was successful for at least four seasons (or more) making it a success

Man, Vince is going solo this time and bringing the XFL back in 2020.  Official announcement to be made later today.

As if 2017 was not crazy enough, 2018 has fired its opening salvo as the return of the XFL, a controversial football league originally founded by Vince McMahon in 1999, will be officially announced on Thursday, sources close to the situation confirm to CBS Sports.

While the return of the XFL will be made official Thursday, CBS Sports has also learned that the league is not expected to start up again until 2020. McMahon, who rushed the original XFL into existence without so much as a full slate of offseason practices to prepare for the league's inaugural year, has apparently learned his lesson from one of the XFL's biggest initial mistakes.

An announcement has been set for 3 p.m. ET.

Wonder how long it will last this time around?  I'd imagine, like it says in the article, that they would have to change up their rules (the extreme ones) in today's landscape.  I hope they still let the players pick their own names.  Does Rod Smart have any kids?  "He Hate Me Too" coming to a field near you?

They can't change too much or they'll just end up being an inferior version of the NFL. Keep the same extreme-ness, but just improve the quality of the games. With so much more time to prepare, no reason to not get better players/coaches/teams.

Hopefully they don't play during the Fall. They should play games in the Spring on Sundays, probably after March Madness.

With all the concussion issues facing the NFL, wonder how they can get around that and not get crucified by the media.  Hopefully, it's only a few things that need tweaking, while keeping it close to the same as before.

I agree the best time would be after March Madness.  Assuming they follow the same format as before, 8 total teams, 10 week season with no bye weeks in the regular season, it's going to be hard not to have to compete with something major going on.  Like the basketball tourney (first time around, weeks 7-9 had games going on at the same time).  Push it back too the Sat/Sun after the NCAA tourney is over, you have them playing games into the second week of June.  Then if you give them one week off (they gave 2 weeks between regular season and playoffs last time), it puts them playing through June, which I imagine could be pretty hot and miserable.  Not to mention, they will be going against the NBA playoffs and NHL

Wonder if they could pull off games being played in the middle of the week to start off, like on a Wed/Thurs (cause you know Vince won't do it on Mon/Tues cause of Raw and Smackdown, then after the BB tourney go to Sat/Sun format or even Friday nights.

Take all of the power out of the qb position that the nfl has created and i might watch

That's actually not a bad idea. Maybe also capitalize on all the other dumb rules of the NFL, like spot foul PI, the catch rule, and more exotic defenses and offenses.

One thing for certain is that he will see a ton more support this time around than last time, if for nothing more than the strong anti-Goodell/NFL sentiment.

The concussion issue could definitely sink all of this in a heartbeat though. The only way in which they could outshine the NFL is if they either made superior helmets (highly unlikely), or had a better program (also seems unlikely).

Make the XFL the super right wing version of the NFL and it’ll succeed.

Go on about cucks, betas, alphas, chads, and red pills.  Make everyone stand for the anthem, even sing along (at the parts you remember).  All athletes must open carry on the sideline.  Prayer after every touchdown.  No pads or helmet.  Whites only.

sounds like a blast!

The XFL should actively encourage gambling and somehow incentivize teams to beat the spread.  In fact, the final spread should be determined prior to kickoff, and the beginning score should reflect that.  For example, if the spread is 3, the game starts with the underdog having a 3 point lead.

It should also require teams to be forthcoming with injury information for fantasy football purposes.

In all seriousness, they should script it but not tell anyone.  Like WWE minus the admission of fakery.

From what I read, Vince sold some of his WWE shares to put a 100 million into his other company Alpha Entertainment and it is said that this time around it is a solo venture, WWE will not be involved.

on a side note:  It must be nice to be a billionaire and be able to just come back later and attempt to make another run on a failed product.

Yes

I suspect though that this league will be just the opposite, competing with the arena league to put up points

I think this will kind of take care of itself just because there aren't 32 really good QBs in the world, and the top 96 are in the NFL (assuming each team has 3 qbs).  So if you don't "open it up" like the arena league, the "power" will be taken away from QBs by their own ****tiness.  :)

There is really no defense against a good/great qb in the modern nfl.

You either have to hope for injury, dumb luck, or that your team has the ball last.  Its why the nfl sucks

Here is an ESPN article just came out with their interview with Vince:  http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/22213241/vince-mcmahon-gimmick-free-xfl-return-2020

He wants faster games (2 hours) and said there would be no gimmicks this time around.  Will be the same format as before, starting with 8 teams and a 10 week regular season again.

Hopefully instead of a playoff, they'll let sportswriters vote on who they think is the best team, and then let the two best teams play each other for the championship while the other teams also get to play each other in games that don't mean anything but sell a lot of ad time.
