LD0506
Quote "Noise" remains the biggest problem for the development of quantum computers, and must be solved before they can be used widely and in the revolutionary ways that have been proposed. The new paper suggests a way of dealing with such noise, in turn potentially opening up a way to control that noise and develop much better quantum computing systems. https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/quantum-computing-computer-noise-algorithm-large-system-ibm-a9663461.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR3n1oCWirNI_Mn2dXKMmCyHxD0kVA_ax7oTm-qxKg1ehZ99X7dLTKn8CFY#Echobox=1597073176
LD0506
NDB’s innovation is in creating a new, proprietary nano diamond treatment that allows for more efficient extraction of electric charge from the diamond used in the creation of the battery. Their goal is to ultimately commercialize a version of their battery that can self-charge for up to a maximum lifespan of 28,000 years, created from artificial diamond-encased carbon-14 nuclear waste. https://techcrunch.com/2020/08/25/self-charging-thousand-year-battery-startup-ndb-aces-key-tests-and-lands-first-beta-customers/

Lol Yeah ... they do some interesting work aside from their best known product, the Predator UAV drone. They have several research programs for different types of nuclear fusion reactors, for example. As well as railgun and laser weapon systems. You get the picture. And of course they have a number of uranium mines too. Here's a video on a railgun from last year. Claims to work at over Mach 4. China
On 3/24/2019 at 12:03 PM, FanboyOf91 said: 😱 New AI Can Create Images Based On Your Thoughts A team of researchers from the University of Helsinki have created a novel brain-computer interface that can sort of figure out what a person is thinking and generate an image based on what that individual has in mind. By interpreting brain signals, the new artificial intelligence (AI) system was able to generate general pictures of faces that matched the characteristics that study participants were thinking of. Brain-computer interfaces have previously been developed that allow people to spell words or move a cursor on a screen using just their thoughts, and future advancements in this field could radically improve the quality of life of those suffering from certain disabilities. An AI that can flawlessly interpret and broadcast a person’s thoughts would restore the ability to communicate in cases where this has been lost, and while this dream remains a considerable way off, the Finnish researchers have taken a step towards that goal. The team recruited 31 participants who were shown a succession of images of human faces while having their electrical brain activity recorded. They were then asked to focus on particular traits, such as smiling faces or elderly faces, while their electroencephalogram (EEG) was fed into a neural network. The computer was then able to recognize certain activity patterns that occurred whenever a person saw a face that matched what they were looking for and used this data to build up a picture of the types of faces that person had in mind. Based on this information, the interface was able to generate new images of faces that contained the relevant characteristics, with a success rate of 83 percent. A full write-up of the experiment has been published in the journal Scientific Reports. Aside from aiding those with communication issues, the researchers say this technology could also one day be used to help get people’s creative juices flowing. In a statement, study author Tuukka Ruotsalo explained that “if you want to draw or illustrate something but are unable to do so, the computer may help you to achieve your goal. It could just observe the focus of attention and predict what you would like to create.” Click on the link for the full article

Why not just train the algorithm twice or more, using separate services. Then compare the results. If the training data gets hijacked before you even feed it into ML algorithms, I don't see how you can autodetect bad data, without manual human inspection. But I guess simple solutions don't get you a multimillion dollar IARPA awards ...

China
Sounds like good tech for someone with nefarious intentions to send unwanted or subliminal suggestions. New device puts music in your head — no headphones required Imagine a world where you move around in your own personal sound bubble. You listen to your favorite tunes, play loud computer games, watch a movie or get navigation directions in your car — all without disturbing those around you. That’s the possibility presented by “sound beaming,” a new futuristic audio technology from Noveto Systems, an Israeli company. On Friday it will debut a desktop device that beams sound directly to a listener without the need for headphones. The company provided The Associated Press with an exclusive demo of the desktop prototype of its SoundBeamer 1.0 before its launch Friday. The listening sensation is straight out of a sci-fi movie. The 3-D sound is so close it feels like it’s inside your ears while also in front, above and behind them. Noveto expects the device will have plenty of practical uses, from allowing office workers to listen to music or conference calls without interrupting colleagues to letting someone play a game, movie or music without disturbing their significant others. The lack of headphones means it’s possible to hear other sounds in the room clearly. The technology uses a 3-D sensing module and locates and tracks the ear position sending audio via ultrasonic waves to create sound pockets by the user’s ears. Sound can be heard in stereo or a spatial 3-D mode that creates 360 degree sound around the listener, the company said.
